I don't know if you've read many of the wind up minion descriptions, but that book in the archives appears to be the journal of the goldsmith who made the wind-up succubus, Cloud of Darkness, and several other voidsent minions. For example, the succubus' text is 'One of countless clockwork servitors discovered in the home of a Gridanian goldsmith recently hanged for the crime of ritual summoning. It is believed while crafting the automata, he became increasingly obsessed with the void, until the darkness bid him do the unthinkable.' The Puff of Darkness says that they tried to exhume his body to find it missing.
Just a bit of extra worldbuilding that was awesome to see!

Drak's reaction to the knight in black was literally me when i saw all of this. i was jumping in my chair so much and was almost in tears as i was hoping for it after playing EW and seeing the allusions to ff4 in that.

My personal theory is that the 4 archfiends are the next 4 trials in these post msq patches, 1 for each upcoming numbered patch. Since we do not need a final for Endwalker it gives them space to fit each of them into a patch, either as part of the main story or still as a trial sidequest. Of course they could also use them for the whole next expansion but i feel they got introduced too early for that.
When I first heard the part about Azdaja being trapped in the void, honestly my first thought was "What if she became the 5-headed dragon boss we fought in World of Darkness?"

My money is still on this Golbez thing being a side-story for the 6.2-6.5 trials. The Four Archfiends will be the trial bosses, with Golbez himself either being an additional bonus trial for 6.58, or maybe a solo duty boss, or possibly held off for future side story content.

Sometimes I feel like a non-FF fan because I never recognize anything ever, even though I've played every FF game. I'm like "Oh that's a neat enemy armor design I guess" and that's it. Then I see something like Drak's reaction and IMMEDIATELY knowing who it is and it's like…why is only my memory so bad, lol. FF4 is even one of my favourites ;-;

A rather pointed reminder that the VA for yshtola also voices Sera from Dragon Age Inquisition.
Also if I remember correctly didn't the Devs say that Zenos was done for completely? I don't think they are bringing him back again.
My theory is the Avatar for Zenos is actually our shard of the Thirteenth. With Zenos dead, they return to their world. They know the 13th is bereft of saviours as they failed to save it, and by joining up with Zenos, they were able to see us, and find out if our strength might be enough to save the thirteenth.

Legit me seeing the Knight. I physically ran across the house and back. I had to explain to my friend, whose only experience with FF is 14 and 7r, what I was flipping shit over.
I called it that we'd come across the Four Fiends way back when the Lunar Whale mount and FF4 minions were announced for fanfest. Boy am I so happy I was right.

As for the texture update not yet but they have updated the lighting how it reacts to textures i believe textures happen in 6.2
See, I have not played FF4, or any FF that isn't 14 or 7 Remake so when I saw that dude in black armor I was just like "….Exdeath…?" while being very confused since I know we fought him in Omega. And then my only reaction to the thrones was "where's ice and thunder". I love Y'shtola, but I still took every opportunity to throw her and Estinien under the bus.
My crack theory is Vrtra will be the Cecil and Mist Dragon and Azdaja will be the Golbez and Shadow Dragon and you're helping Vrtra overcome his regrets and shortcomings from being in the shadows at Radz as well as him feeling like he's failed her in not rescuing her….while you help him save Adzaja, who is probably corrupted to an extent, but not too far to have it undone and is genuinely concerned with the 13th (and kind of mirroring Vrtra with Radz) but manipulated/controlled by Zemus, who is a powerful voidsent.

Remember folks: we already know 2/5 of the warriors of the 13th: Unukalhai (warring triad quests, black mage equivalent) and Cyella/Cylva (ShB role quests, paladin equivalent). We also know that the 13th was originally thrown to chaos by another adventuring party using auracite to harness the power of primals, but the corrupt aether from them leaked, warping their souls into voidsent. My best theory then is that the 4 fiends + golbez are that adventuring party, who were warped into the first voidsent
You have no idea how happy I was to see the Final Fantasy 4 bosses. I fanboyed harder then you did lol FF4 was my first FF and my favorite.
I lost my mind just like Drak did. I have been waiting for XIV's take on IV ever since the Crystal Tower, and now its finally here. I literally cannot wait for 6.2. I'm shivering with excitement.

My take if Zenos is going to come back in any form, I can see him fighting to restore the 13th, not as a selfless act of heroism, but his own twisted way of trying to understand the WoL in order to become stronger for a rematch.
