FFXIV OST – Paglth'an

Spoilers for MSQ ahead. Dungeon music and rundown for the 5.5 main story. I think this one is my patch favourite, which it’s not usually dungeon music. Also love how the final area looks, we need more steppes in the game 😀

  1. I'm fairly sure at this point Soken just loves taking the themes from previous, older parts of the games just as an excuse to make a mix with all the instruments involved in them.

  2. This dungeon is my #1 of Shadowbringers with 2nd place being tied with all the Tempest ones but they were all pretty good for the most part imo

  3. OK THE BAGPIPES ARE COOL BUT YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE IS COOL??? at 1:49 you hear rattling notes. that's angklung, a traditional Indonesian instrument. for once a foreign composer incorporates something that isnt gamelan. what a rare treat, what a fun dungeon.

  4. I like to imagine that Soken is kinda like a real life incarnation of the Shaggy being all powerful meme with him cranking up the badass level with each new ost by maybe 3% max before ramping it into maximum overdrive for the final 6.0 track so we can all just here stunned like shocked Patrick.

  5. I always liked the Amal'jaa's theme back in ARR, but I had no idea it would be remixed into a ShB dungeon several years later. I'm so amazed. <3

  6. I do like how they use the time of day / atmospheric lighting in some of the outside dungeons. I think that's what really made this one work for me. Especially over the golden grasses.

  7. Remember Holminster Switch? Remember how when you went in and everything just felt as though there was a sense of urgency? This right here, brought that feeling back for me; That's not to say that there hasn't been themes to this scale, but Paglth'an, Too Fire and Sword, Too the Edge and Mortal Instants were some of my favorites that I just kind of listen to while driving. I also recall being in a mood one day and blasting Ramuh's Eden theme while going through the neighborhood. Some guy made eye contact and we just start head banging! 😀 Fun times.

  8. Ahem…

Returning to Heavensward expansion to release an Elder Dragon imprisioned by allagan technology for eons to come and fuck up her husband's bullshit in Paglth'an is pretty badass ngl.

  10. seeing an amazing dungeon using an old area with an old beast tribe makes me think yoship's team grew a lot since ARR. If ARR ever gets remade it would be way better than what it is now.

  11. so, you see…. I had recently reentered zanr'ak for the first time in ages and registered the music and froze in place like "wait, where have I heard this before?!"

all this time doing paglth'an and I didn't even recognize what it was from…….

but like… I guess it makes sense considering 1. it really has been a super long time since I've been in zanr'ak, 2. I didn't have to go there too often, and 3. I had mount music enabled back then (but not these days) and I was always either mounted with the cute chocobo music or in combat when I was in that area :b

I was so shook when I made the connection though lmao
