FFXIV or World of Warcraft | Old Dungeon and Raid Scaling | Which scales better?

A video going over the difference between how Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft’s scaling for older content works out. FFXIV keeps you at the same level and abilities when doing older content, WoW scales older content up to the current expansion and you keep all the abilities. Which is better?

DESCRIPTION:
World of Warcraft (WoW) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) released in 2004 by Blizzard Entertainment. Set in the Warcraft fantasy universe, World of Warcraft takes place within the world of Azeroth, approximately four years after the events of the previous game in the series, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.[3] The game was announced in 2001, and was released for the 10th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise on November 23, 2004. Since launch, World of Warcraft has had eight major expansion packs: The Burning Crusade (2007), Wrath of the Lich King (2008), Cataclysm (2010), Mists of Pandaria (2012), Warlords of Draenor (2014), Legion (2016), Battle for Azeroth (2018), and Shadowlands (2020).

Final Fantasy XIV[b] is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Square Enix. Directed and produced by Naoki Yoshida, it was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 3 in August 2013, as a replacement for the failed 2010 version of the game, with support for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and macOS releasing later. Final Fantasy XIV takes place in the fictional land of Eorzea, five years after the events of the original 2010 release. At the conclusion of the original game, the primal dragon Bahamut escapes from its lunar prison to initiate the Seventh Umbral Calamity, an apocalyptic event which destroys much of Eorzea. Through the gods’ blessing, the player character escapes the devastation by time traveling five years into the future. As Eorzea recovers and rebuilds, the player must deal with the impending threat of invasion by the Garlean Empire from the north.

  1. I really love the way FFXIV scales its old content, there is something very nice knowing that everyone going through older content is having mostly similar experiences as people who did it years ago!

  2. I honestly prefer the ff14 and while i do sigh when i'm in a low level dungeon (unless i'm on my dancer because 1k potency at lvl 15 just destroy the dungeon) in the end i don't really mind. Plus you still have access to your role ability and those can be very important/useful depending on your class. However for most classes that are unlocked at a higher level (like astrologian and dark knights) you can clearly feel that something is missing and i kinda wish that they'd give some abilities sooner.

  3. The biggest issue with having all the abilities on Low level dungeons that ARE NOT BUILT to balance with those abilities and will just make them super easy and boring. Also balancing these abilities would be a complete nightmare. Tali make it sounds easy to do but WoW proved that wrong.

I'd rather have abilities balance based on the dungeon over having over abilities on all dungeons any day.

  4. I think part of the problem is that the ffxiv team is hesitant to give a full kit too many buttons, so every time the cap goes up, the lower skills get spread thinner and further apart.

  5. I think something low key about ff14s lvl scaling that's often missed, it really encourages you to learn your jobs, as many change drastically over various levels meaning you have various iterations to grasp with that hone certain fundementals to a job and let you realize more how something higher level might function based on how missing it changes up your playstyle.

  6. Quick Correction, TP was removed in Shadowbringers, not Stormblood. There was however a huge nerf to old content indirectly, Direct Hit replaced Accuracy in Stormblood, which was an effective damage buff of about 20% compared to how old content scaled.

  7. When it comes to dungeons, trials and raids, I prefer the FFXIV way of doing things.

However, I wish the world questing in FFXIV would be like Chromie time. I'm 72 on my Paladin now and are working on Stormblood, where I'm doing lvl 67 quests for the moment. With the HQ 72 crafted gear I made, I'm not exactly in danger of dying.

And it's not like it's impossible either for Square Enix to add this. Beast tribe quests in Heavensward actually scale to your level when you're doing them, at least between 50 and 60. Why can't the sidequests and MSQ do the same?
