FFXIV First Impressions:
I’ve played WoW for over 15 years but given the state of WoW right now and the lack of content, I’m trying FFXIV for the first time and documenting my journey throughout the game, and here are my FFXIV First Impressions.
Throughout I will be comparing FFXIV to WoW and referencing the differences between the two. Obviously, I do have some bias, but I will try and keep an open mind all the way. As always these are just my thoughts and opinions.
Thanks everyone for putting up with a slower release schedule for these FFXIV new player videos, hopefully, I can make them longer and more enjoyable, thanks so much for your patience

Honestly, I have played all the tanks classes and they are all fun in their own special way. Me I am personally a fan of Warrior… Using fell cleave feels just like ripping into the enemy with a chainsaw lol
marry me sempai #nohomo hahahah, so cool that is a system in game
Don't worry for your change of format, it's not bad if we have more in a row but have to wait for it, do things at your paste, not our !
I don't comment on things often, but I had to pop in at last to say that I love these videos. I've had several experiences with friends and their friends joining FFXIV, and so many just complain like crazy. "This is too slow!" / "This system is dumb!" / "I just want to get to endgame!" I totally get that this game isn't for everyone, and if people don't want to play, that's absolutely fine! But it's so hard to enjoy a game when the people you're with do nothing but dump on everything you love.
This experience with you has been the exact opposite. Watching your videos reminds me of when I first started, learning everything as I did–mostly by myself. It's very nostalgic and wholesome, and I'm so glad you're enjoying your journey through this wonderful game. Thank you so much for sharing it with all of us. <3
There are some reskins, but in this game you can find mounts that are:
1) beds
2) chairs
3) thrones
4) a claw
5) a dandelion
6) a giant spinning tortoise
7) a literal transformer that goes from standing robot to airplane
8) a toy airplane
9) a mechanical spider
10) a bench being carried around by a chandelier made from bomb enemies
11) a mirror ball that turns into a cube peeking into another world
And there's so many more strange ones. But yes, there are reskinned horses (ARR EX trial mounts), birds (HW EX trial mounts), tigers (SB EX trial mounts), dragons (ShB EX trial mounts) and a couple others, but the variety is nice.
Huh i didnt even know you could fight Edda before doing tamtara hard
Not all job quests are created equal. Some are better than others, depending on your tastes. Personally, I really enjoyed the Conjurer and White Mage quest line. It has some nice lore to it, and it makes your development feel important.
Archer was a good story with a strong resolution, but then Bard just sucked. I felt similar with Arcanist, which was quality until it switched to Summoner which was meh.
If you want a top-notch class/job journey though, you really ought to check out Rogue/Ninja. INCREDIBLY fun DPS job once things get complex, and the quests for each are very well done. You'll want to keep leveling just so you can see what happens next!
Glad you got a taste of the harder content through PotD.
Even the normal raids get chaotic as hell, but it takes a while to get through to them.
Do you mean Alberic or Alaimbert? Because if you mean Alaimbert then yes I absolutely look forward to you meeting him.
oh hey, don't forget to add this to the FFXIV Playthrough playlist, I thought it was over and just happened to see part 10 was out
I've been playing this game for more than 3 years now and it has been getting a little dull for me. But watching your videos remind of the time when I was a sprout in the world. Everything felt amazing and new and fresh. Thank you for letting me relive my bests memories of the game. I look forward to your videos every time. Hopefully once cross data center visits are open I will be able to go find you and hang out for abit!
the Dragoon quests are like the gladiator quests in that all the good shit is at the last two quests, but damn arent they awesome <3
I know people will probably call me out but I say this as a friendly advice
As you reach lvl 50-60, jobs start having a rotation, for the DRG the basic idea is that you want to do your two combos alternatively (first disembowel combo and then true thrust combo) and weave in ONE OGCD between each GCD to avoid clipping as the animation of your jumps is kinda long. Trying to do that will set a good foundation for later levels as the game progressively asks more of you as a player.
If you get interested in learning to be a skilled player in any job I recommend searching for the Balance discord. They have very good guides on all the jobs to get you started.
xDD PoTD on par with WoW mythics how telling of WoW's boss fights. Just you wait honey real endgame fights will have you laughing at WoW
The class / job quests get much better as you go along
As a fellow DRG, I can say for sure that the DRG story picks up immensely, and can affect the Heavensward main story as well (no spoilers). Your powers, as well as the storyline will get deep.
take ur time enjoy it :3
you can stream on YouTube.
I did not know about the wedding and the achievement rewards. Thank you!!!!
oh god, that fight. I was doing PotD level 50 fight as a warrior with three other people. The only reason we managed to win that fight is that someone put a DoT on her before they died and tank privilege kept me alive.
Ma man with his sword out on his hilt during the wedding ahha love it.
In case you didn't know by now you can hide your weapon in the character menu on the little sword icon
that marriage doesnt even show half of the work that goes into it! they get to plan the wedding events as they happen in the cutscene as well so almost the whole thing is planned by the couple getting married
If you like the little details (4:01) – back in Ul'dah, you should try to find the dancing trio 🙂
Oh my can not wait to see you get into savage raids. You will absolutely love just how in depth they are mechanically
During the summer event a couple years ago a bunch of characters made little cameos at Costa del Sol. And wouldn't you know it, those three soldiers training in the pond show up enjoying the warmer water.
The woman spying on you in POTD is the same White Mage you meet earlier in your adventure. She's part of the in experienced adventuring party that ended up losing their tank (who was also her fiance). They heard stories of your adventures and ran off on one that was too much for their party at the time. When I reached that point I felt somewhat responsible for her fiance's death… Ngl.. It's these little interwoven details that make the game what it is, not just in the MSQ but side stories and side characters as well.
Been enjoying the FFXIV vids. Please keep them up at your own pace. I am on my free trial and will be purchasing it in the next day or two. Thank you for your honest reviews.
I never knew they supported same sex marriages. As a gay man i love this game so much 😁
That PoTD Boss Edda, she's the healer that got trashed by her party in the beginning the game, she has a whole questline too, it's sooooo cool!
Omg your appreciation of the wedding not being necessary but something in there just for fun almost brought a tear to my eye. I love your appreciation of the game. I love how it feels like everything in this game is in there because someone on the dev team just thought it would be cool to have…not to keep players in game longer, but because they just thought people would like it.
Idk what the odds you'll see this are but god I love seeing people sit back and enjoy the game! All I cared about in WoW was grinding at end game/pvp, and I did enjoy it but…its such a nice feeling how this game makes you try stuff youd never do before. They've done such a job continously building the game instead of tearing it down after 2 years
man it does my heart good to see new Paladins being born
This mans transformation is so awesome haha
Not caught up on your videos, but I feel this is probably the point where you'd realize what you are against with "anime style" is more specific things than you might have once thought.
And Asmon went to a wedding with his sword and armor for protection lol
And Asmon went to a wedding with his sword and armor for protection lol
i know what you mean about wow mount they used that raptor frame for a all of mounts and do not get me stared on the drakes
You've figured out our cliff falling trope!
What a coincidence, I want to get married 😳
That's not the same Cid. Each FF game (first in FF2 but was later retconned into FF1 as well) has a Cid and he's usually involved in airships or is a mechanic. Cid is one of the recurring theme in the series, like moogles and chocobos. Also like Biggs and Wedge, they are Ironworks mechanics in FF14, but freedom fighters, a part of AVALANCHE in FF7.
And Gilgamesh, but it's usually the same Gilgamesh just hopelessly lost traveling between worlds.
"…So the next big part of the game was looking for cids airship!"
Record scratch
….*and then we did more palace of the dead and it was amazing*
(That bit was great and you executed it really well lol)
