We test some pet mechanics, as well as some other buff related mechanics, and then have a long discussion about the Summoner Openers to try and figure out when you should use what, exactly!

I've been really enjoying these. I've been playing since 2.2 and only recently started dabbling into trying every job so these tidbits have been great for helping me navigate my buttons.
Definitely my favorite ff series lately, thank you so much for this research. I always wondered how living shadow for drk worked in relation to raid buffs and raid buff timing.. similar to the smn analysis that was done here. Maybe in the next video? 😊
Loved this one, many thanks!
Gotta appreciate the 10 minute explanation on the most specific situations where Garuda First is more optimal just for the answer to be "yes********"
I guess I'm the weird one to do Ifrit first then lol. Because of how crits and direct hits work, I thought that Ifrit's much higher base potencies potentially out-damage Titan. But if Searing Light can boost the second summon, then Titan would be much stronger.
Something to test for next mythbusters: when do positionals snapshot? when you press the button or when the damage applies (or other)?
Speaking of Summoner and personal buffs/snapshotting myths;
If I place the Ewer/Spire/Bole on a Summoner during the second half of Bahamut, how does that buff impact their DPS? everything ive seen – including from some verboten 3rd party damage calculators – suggests that the summons are independent, distinct targets from the Summoner themselves; i.e., the single target buffs like Dragon Eye and astro cards do NOT apply to any abilities not directly casted by the Summoner.
Perhaps this could also impact the way pets work, because you have a passive that increases YOUR damage/healing (Maim and Mend for healers also increasing your healing output, i forget the DPS name of the same passive trait) and perhaps this does not apply to pets.
In other words, perhaps its not that Automata Queen's 600 potency is actually 500, but rather a MCH's drill with 600 Pot is actually 720?
The pet snapshotting one is wild. All you have to do is look at MCH burst. It's set up that way to get queens burst inside raid buffs because it doesn't snapshot.
Honestly, Titan First might be better overall for prog since it means you never have to Swiftcast Garuda, so you can save it for resses instead
I was unaware the gain on Garuda was so minimal though… doesn't really seem like it matters at all unless you're parsing.
I can't explain why I just watched 10 minutes of extremely micro optimization math for SMN, my least played caster job… but I enjoyed it! ¯_(ツ)_/¯
good to know pets doesn't snapshot. because sometimes press bahamut before searing light.
garuda first, depends. like barbiricia ex. if garuda 3rd, she goes to the side. tanks pull back middle. you can delay but then she jumps away from your puddle. garuda first is easier to deal in this fight.
Heres a suggestion for one. Id it worth it to burn sharpcasts to guarantee thundercloud instead of using them to force a Firestarter?
In 2.0-4.0 pet stats were based on player stats at time of summoning, the actual % has changed many times before i stopped tracking it completely (wispering dawn became to depressing as a hot for me to want this knowledge anymore). iirc it started higher close to the 5/6ths(if not higher) you mentioned at the beginning got nerfed down closer to 1/3rd(this was in 2.0 when smn lost thunder as a cross class), then it was brought back up to 1/2, and then 2/3rds by heavensward where it stayed until 4.0 where it initiallly went down to somewhere between 50 and 60% then when smn got buffed along side ninja and some other jobs it went up to about 3/4 player stats. With the changes introduced in shadowbringers I had assumed that they were just going to make pet stats equal to player stats but also this is where i stopped really looking at the pet stats because i mostly lost interest in the job(i still play it but mostly just to be contarian and play spell speed summoner which is absolutely valid and has been for a very long time as the pet attack passive that gave smn a flat % cast time reduction on a critical hit was removed a long time ago)
I think the titan first rotation for summoner has settled on delaying both searing light and potion by 1 gcd so that you can fit both slipstream and summon garuda in searing, you lose one cast of astral impulse during searing (this astral impulse is worth less than all the other ones because other buffs aren't out yet) but gain 2 of your strongest gcds inside your buff.
I'm not sure how delaying searing light affects the calculation, or whether the garuda first opener benefits at all, but my instinct is that it would boost the titan first opener potency even more because it can take advantage of garuda's frontloaded damage while using this for the garuda first opener only results in a single titan gcd being buffed.
The mathening is upon us
Unsure if that's a comment from my SMN video or another one.
Because yeah no, I've gotten that literal exact comment.
I hope summoner gets something in dawntrail so that it's optimising circles can be a bit larger, given a lot of them did stop playing the job for losing what they enjoyed, leading for weird misconceptions to be posted and spread in the main ways people research information such as which opener to learn.
I don't understand why pets do less damage. Or I guess, I don't get why the game tells us they should be doing more damage than they actually do.
I lovd how every video I see, people pronounce Kerachole differently.
Summoner pets have the same traits as the character.., that's why the potency is high, ..or not than??
(edit: but that's not really the question..)
interesting video & theme's.. and answers some uncertainties
