What does the FFXIV 6.4 Live Letter mean for the Lore?

I just wanted to get this out so I can see what people are excited for or hoping to see in FFXIV 6.4! While the patch is still quite a ways away I do hope everyone has fun until then and beyond. Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. I'm expecting a composite of Golbez and Zemus. Like, as Golbez is losing, he loses control of all the voidsent he's devoured and so starts mutating into something akin to Zeromus.

  2. Part of the reason I’m excited for more Blue Mage Stiff is because I treat it as my “Errand Boy” job that’s used to suck up the XP for all those random side quests that get ignored most of the time.

  3. As someone who rps a Sharlayan student and researcher the new dungeon is gonna be perfect for taking photos and hopefully bring able to expand that side of her lore, as its a bit messy and may need to chopva few things off to make it more digestable. But a comment isnt that place to talk about that, if you read this scribe your one of my favortite xiv creators as you have helped me understand this games lore as i tend to have trouble readong so having digestable videos i can have on really helps so thank you

  5. I'm excited to fight Golbez on the void's red moon. I wonder if the moon's color has to do something with the critical state the 13th is in. we know the moon and his reflections were created from astral aspected aether, so all the umbral aether in the void would have some kind of negative effect on the moon i guess 😮

  6. That new MSQ dungeon also absolutely REEKS of Sage lore, my guy. And despite how much I hate healing, I am very, VERY excited to see it.

And perhaps the Heart of Sabik will finally be addressed in the final tier of Pandæmonium?

  7. Some spoilers about Golbez just in case:

I have one worry about Golbez is that he mention that his plans are based on informations given to him by an ascian woman, so we might have a "hidden bad guy" thing and it'd be a shame. Though maybe he'll just outplay the ascian, that'd be a cool twist

  8. I was curious what anabaseios means. It seems to be related to the greek anabasis: which means "an expedition from a coastline into the interior of a country". That, combined with the screenshots general color, would make me think the final leg of Pandaemonium will take place in present day, in the aetherial sea. I don't think that is a novel revelation, but hey, it's there.

If you want to get technical, the Aitiascope is like, the coast of the aetherial sea, and we push into the interior of Pandaemonium's remaining secrets. I'm being a bit flowery.

Look, I'm just also begging for Sabik lore. It really does feel like we gotta be getting that with Claudien missing in Azys Lla, and the reference to the Heart of Sabik in the name of the P8sP2 song "white stone black."

Furthermore, Pandaemonium is most closely tied with FF2, and a major plot point of FF2 is the spell Ultima. Ultima is heavily tied in with The Heart of Sabik in XIV, so I am just really curious if its gonna get tied together.

I also promised my FC that if sabik isnt mentioned in Anabadeios that I would be forced to phantasia into a lalafel. I'm a bit desperate.

  9. I’m still on board with the theory that Golbez is an ascian who got high on the dark supply of the void. As for pandaemonium… Ya know how Thordan slashed then absorbed Lahabrea and when we killed Thordan we just left his sword there? I suspect that Lahabrea activated his trap card and pulled Pandaemonium through time (somehow) and Anabaseos will be his last ditch attempt to rejoin. Interestingly, anabaseos means a March from the sea inland. The AETHERIAL sea hmm.

  10. Speaking of lore I do want to ask a question. I've watched the summoner and scholar lore videos and was thinking if it makes sense for Scholars to be able to summon carbuncle? Since now it will be a glamour for the scholar fairy. Would love to hear your thoughts on it ^^

  11. I'm the opposite, to me a core part of Golbez's character is after he is freed from Zemus' control and how he seeks redemption so I'll be disappointed if he is just a villain. Especially considering the words of Rubicante and the stuff with Pashtarot. (which has been excellently covered by fellow lore tuber Mericam in her Patch 6.3 Speculation video)

  13. Well Rokkon is a Japanese term that translates to "Six Senses," and is connected to ascetic practices (partly Shugendo) of purification. By climbing mountains particularly Fuji while reciting the phrase Rokkon Shou Jou (Shou Jou and its variants meaning purity) one would detach from their emotions in order to purify the self. As such I expect Mount Rokkon in FF14 to be a path of spiritual cleansing/enlightenment. I suppose you could have a Ninja village component. It seems probable therefore that either Hien or Gosetsu who will accompany us, although in thinking about that it will be rather odd if they didn't fight alongside us.

  14. I've been thinking on the raid quite a bit and I have so many questions that I can't really get bead on who we will be fighting. Despite being named after something in FF 2 (Paradise Lost being the og of course) there isn't a whole lot of 2 stuff going on, kind of similar to Eden's ties to 8. Even in story the head research felt compelled to visit Azys Lia which opens up a whole can of worms on its own. The only thing I can really put a gut feeling towards is maybe the final fight channeling some of ideas of the FF2 remake which introduced the idea of the Emperor of Heaven, which would tie into the concept of Athena usurping God. Especially with the seat being pretty empty now, but I guess that brings up the question if Athena somehow stayed alive, or if some expry of her exists.

  15. Full tinfoil, thinnest of threads prediction — we just sent a large amount of Amouratine souls to the life stream when we killed Zodiark. Lahabrea had a known obsession with the Phoenix, Athena wanted godhood, the Greek word for resurrection is Anastasis (very similar to our name Anabasis. Athena is going to resurrect, potentially with Hesphaistos/Lahabrea, resurrect an army of Amouratines and attempt to strike out for the modern world and we're going to put them down.

  16. I feel like The Aetherfont was where The Forum first made contact with Hydaelyn. If that ends up being the case, I can't wait for a good 'ol feels romp with a remix/re-orchestration of Flow to listen to.

  17. Personally I don't think Azdaja will be corrupted considering how dragon scales are quite resistant to changes in aether, and being trapped in that bubble seems to help. Instead, I think Golbez is gonna use her aether to create the shadow dragon he's well known for having- and given the fact that the Four Fiends were feeding off her aether, I can see the shadow dragon basically being an aetheric construct similar to the dragon formed during Dragonsong Dive.

It'd be interesting to have to fight Azdaja herself alongside Golbez, but those are my two cents and something i'm personally predicting.

  18. This all depends on who is under the helm, but I think Golbez will pull a Darth Vader on us. I think how we get to the moon of the Thirteenth is where the Aetherfont will take us. Not literally, but Y’shtola did say she will try to find records to help. I think her searching will lead us to find answers at the Aetherfont, which could be site of a place with a place to breach into the Void as well. Possibly.

  19. on one hand, seeing more of the Sharlayan island is neat.
on the other, kind of my least favorite place in the expansion … I mean the underground complex is cool… but unless you have a head for books the place is pretty lacking. Thavnare/ Radz Ad Han on the other hand is 100% my jam.

it's pretty clear we're getting Zeromus to me anyway, but the fact they didn't try to hide Golbez as the next trial, like the usually do, has me wondering what they actually are trying to hide via distraction. I'm guessing they are distracting from how they are working Zeromus in. I'm still on the train of thought that it's going to be Zero some how.

Because it's FF14. and the writers are Sadists. But at the same time it's FF14 and it's rarely ever so easy to pars out like that. que my left field insane BS theroys before Endwalker here

new criterion dungeon is always neat .. even if i still need to finish the first one >.> 12 runs of the same dungeon is kind of a tall ask

also, more Blue Mage. Nice. it's always fun faffing about and getting spells with Blue Mage.

  20. Seeing the Aetherfont, I think it is either IN the Hinterlands like some believe. It's just SO mountainous and though the general landscape outside the city isn't too well known, I feel like returning to the Hinterlands to see Matoya and learn of the first time they contacted Hydaelyn in the Antitower (The 6.0 trailer having Hades SAY the REALLY SPECIFIC area names in the Antitower makes me think there's more to it)
The option I think is more likely though is that this IS in Sharlaeyn, and the Aetherfont is the location the Primals used to fuel the Ragnarok were summoned. I could see how such large amounts of summoning could tear away at the aether in the area and allow voidgates and the veil between the Shards to be seen and interacted with

  21. Tell me, have you been to the ruins beneath the waters of the Bounty?

Or the treasure islands beyond the frozen waters of Blindfrost, in Othard's north? <— You are here.

The fabled golden cities of the New World? The sacred sites of the forgotten people of the south sea isles?

What about Meracydia, the southern continent? Do you know aught of its present state of affairs?

Some of the civilizations in the reflections will surprise you.

  22. I feel like Golbez will be opening portals or like rifts across every remaining shard including the source, connecting all of them without rejoining them. Maybe on each of the moons or the 13th's moon as like a portal-hub. And we'll use that later to travel to each one of them! I feel like that will be the big change happening at the end of Endwalkers patches. Opening up everything for us to explore!

  23. Given that Pandaemonium sits in the Lifestream of the Source now, right in the Aitiascope, I imagine we’ll be dealing with potentially primordial-levels of Aetherial forces right here in the Source and the present; a very big risk considering the rest has been at least comfortably sat around in the distant unsundered past.
If the beasts in Pandaemonium were perhaps able to escape sundering by being in the Lifestream, we’d be facing creatures of greater Aetherial force than anything the source knows; aside from Lahabrea, Elidibus and Emet-Selch.

I expect Golbez will do something that will leave a “Lasting Impression” on the stability of the reflections, which I’m hoping will tie into the possible curing side quests that were hinted at in the ShB Post Role-Quest stuff, with the two former-13th members. And Zero of course.
Given that .4 and .5 have always been more about Pre-Next Expansion, rather than Post-Expansion (As in hinting at the main gimmick for what the next expansion is about, rather than continuing the tale of the last expansion), Golbez disrupting the natural state of the realms could possibly lead us into having to fix something in the 13th to stop the Source from being hit with another Calamity, or the equivalent.

  24. Mount Rokkon is pronounce as Rok-kon. Although saying the name in English feels way too awkward, so I just called it Rokkon-San (ろっこんさん) because that’s how you pronounce the dungeon name in Japanese. From the title of the dungeon, we can decipher a few things; one is that Rokkon (六根) means sixth senses organ, referring to your six senses. Mount Rokkon (六根山) literally translate as Sixth Sense Mountain.

Terms like this are mostly seen in Shinto/Buddhism ritual usually enlightenment or purification (especially with their mantras mentioning Rokkon a lot) So we can expect that this dungeon is probably a dungeon how monks/Geomancer/samurai/Ninja go through a journey of enlightenment to the mountains for training. I have a hunch we’re going back to Doma for this stuff and Hien/Yūgiri will be our guide.

Also, we know The Aetherfont location. It’s in the Isles of Haam, which is located north of Sharlayans main island. The Japanese title later half literary translates as Haam Island, and in the world map Sharlayan has straits of island called the Isles of Haam up north and Isles of Yorn down south respectively.

  25. I swear Ive heard someone mention Mount Rokkon name before in-game somewhere ,but if you of all people dont know anything about it then Im pretty sure Im mistaking it for something else.
But overall my speculation was so wrong about variant dungeons,
I imagined that we will be getting all the beginner city state themed variant dungeons like Sil'dihn was for Ul'dah so the other 2 would have been for Gridania and Limsa to expand the lore about them ,but instead we are jumping into far east instead 😀
