FFXIV Music Video | Mourniquet Valiente: In Memoriam

I created this music video as a memorial to one of my best friends in both Final Fantasy XIV and as far as I was concerned, in the “real world” as well, the player of the character Mourniquet Valiente (I will refer to her by this name, as this is how we knew her). She was well-loved in our community, and her loss has been devastating to many. Mourniquet suffered from serious illnesses for many years, but remained cheerful and positive, always trying to brighten the days of those around her. She passed on in late July, 2023. She was 37.

Mourniquet was a Christian, and that helped determine my musical choice for this video. Another close friend of mine, Ella Fantasia, suggested that I include text entries both from the Remembrance Book in Mourniquet’s FC house room, and from what was said at her memorial service. When I wrote my entry in her book, I was still shaken by what had just happened and at a loss for words, except to express my grief. I still feel that pain, but I am thankful I was able to find words in a way, expressing them through this video. Fortunately, Mourniquet appeared in a few of my past music videos, and I save all my raw footage. Thus, I had a fair amount of footage to pull from for this memorial. Atsuko Siege also helped by acting in her stead for a few scenes later in the video. Other close friends of Mourniquet’s such as Zechs Kaiser and Wica Azurtha also assisted with filming. Finally, Mourniquet herself supplied the thumbnail and some stills for this video. I drew from a pool of screenshots she had posted in Discord over the past few years. The thumbnail here is one of those screenshots.

You may not have met Mourniquet. But know that she was terribly important to many of us. I hope this video properly conveys that truth. She was an amazing, special woman. I will never forget her.
