FFXIV Lore- Keeper of the Lake & the Battle of Silvertear Skies

I think this is the last dungeon from A Realm Reborn we will be covering my friends! It has been a while, but we finally covered all the dungeons of the first major re-release of FFXIV. That means we’ll have an easier time from here on out as we cover the WoL’s journey through Heavensward and onward. Thank you all so much for joining me as we explore the lore of this world, and I look forward to covering even more data with all of you in the future!

  1. Is it ever mentioned anywhere why the Ascians never tried to grab Midgardsormr's eyes for anything?
Edit: Nevermind. If Midgardsormr was draining Hydaelyn like a parasite aka 'drinking deep' then better to leave him there doing so.

  2. Does dragons' aether actually return to the start though.
Since they are considered aline, the planet could just treat them like Gi Tribe in FFVII and not allow them to return to the aether sea.
And speaking of which, there was no dragon in the 89LV dungeon.

  3. I think with new information we got, I have a potential idea how Midgardsormr can create a new form. The issue is his soul is so dense with aether, to make a suitable form for it of a comparable level to his old body is going to take many, many years. Centuries in fact. It’s said that their kind is born of great aether. To even hatch a newborn dragon would take an aether rich environment and indeed take a lot of time. In the MSQ, we see how dragon eyes are incredibly potent with a lot of them. That even one can sustain a great wyrm of the First Brood. So by similar logic, I think that to make and sustain a form would take aether and time, which he has both of in spades. And he’s often said not to be idle even if he’s out of action as of now.

  4. About Midgardsomr deal with hydelyn to settle on Etherys:
FF7 Rebirth also have an instance of an alien people (the gi tribe) settling on another planet (and ff7's lifestream is the inspiration for ff14's aetherial sea), their planet was destroyed and they had to flee and settle on FF7's planet, but when they die they couldnt enter the lifestream, they asked the steward of that planet (the cetra) to allow them to enter there when they die, but they were denied and now they remain as undead ghosts on the surface waiting for true oblivion…
So what if Midgardsomr deal with Hydelyn was for her to bind Midgarsomr and his brood into Etherys Aetherial Sea, so they could go there when they die in exchange for protecting silvertear lake?

  5. I know it's wrong to condemn all of Ishgard, but someone in Tactics put it correctly that they probably knew what was going on in their nation and were just comfortable with continuing like Eulmore did in the face of doom. If we hadn't stepped in to mediate, I feel like Ishgard would have gotten what it deserved.

"Governments falsify history only so it favours them. But you can't blame them. Because people always hope for a 'miracle'. Endlessly complaining, lazy, nuisances… that's what the masses really are. Governments give the people what they want… and history repeats itself. Governments might well have taken advantage of their insecurity… but then again, people are satisfied being used… 'God' is nothing but an image created out of their insecurity. It's their fault for knowing they're comfortably numb, and not doing anything about it."
    Wiegraf Folles

It's also the fact that humanity continued to piss off the big Dad Dragon to the point he was willing to scorch Ishgard down, that should say something on how badly Ishgard screwed up in general.

  6. I feel like this story is incomplete without the last hurrah of the Agrias, not as the flagship of the empire, nor the final resting place of the god of dragons, but as the Cradle of the Eighth Astral Era. After the Warrior of light, and in fact much of civilization as we knew it had fallen to black rose, and the eight Umbral Calamity, the Garlond Ironworks used it's wreckage as a fortified base for their experiments with time travel. And of course generations after the fall of civilization, when they succeeded, and sent the crystal tower to the first, Midgardsormr awoke from his long slumber, congratulated the son's of man, and swore now to protect them as they rebuilt humanity.

  7. As one of those locations tied to major 1.0 events, it's always nice to see the details past the events of the MSQ. Though honestly, Midgardsormr himself is a character that could easily deserve a video all to himself with the sheer aetheric depth that he affects the lore of 1.0, Mohr Dona, Heavensward, and Omega.

  8. Considering how strong Midgardsormr is, it makes you wonder who the strongest of their kind is in their history let alone if their lifestream existed or not, maybe with the song of hope we'll go there and help the dragons reclaim it?

  9. What if Warrior of Light's adventuring stories told to Venat had a play in Midgarsorm attack the Garlemald Greatest Ship, and now Hidaelyn is moving him as a chest piece in order to guide the WoL?

  10. With the Aether he siphoned on the journey to the Star, and what we know of the Short Side-Story about the people of the 8th Umbral Era, i imagine his soul trying to enter the Aetherial Soul would be like trying to pour a Gallon into a pint mug.
Does make us wonder just how much Hydaelyn told him about the WoL.
