It's sad that I'm looking forward to playing FFXIV mobile on PC just for something different, more than I'm looking forward to anything in the current game's future.
Ffxiv has released the exact same content on the exact same release schedule for like 6 years straight. How can anyone defend that? They take zero risks. The newest content ive seen is chaotic and thats only good because osma is a god at raid design. When wow released dragonflight there was so much new to try. Meanwhile ffxiv releases a msq, two trials, and role quests…. are you kidding me???? Its boring same content always they never release new content. Wow even did a battle royal thats so cool! Ffxiv has lost my respect for innovating mmo content. They lost the plot taking no risks.
Why would they threaten to do that? What would they out of it lol.
Yeah, the game is in a bad place and I think we all saw this coming/ happening since the launch of Dawntrail. It was horribly recieved, some people still haven't finished the MSQ and we've all seen/felt the population drop over the last few months due to the lack of content and the terribly written MSQ.
They need to drastically change their plans for the rest of the 7.X release cycle. Move the relic weapon, Beast Tamer and the exploration zone releases up in the patch cycle so more people have a reason to play beyond the 10% of raiders in the community.
They also have to change the story so there's less Wuk and more interesting things going on. At this point, Wuk is just the face of Dawntrail's failures and they need to get rid of her before she becomes the face of Final Fantasy XIV's downfall.
There are 4 months before the next patch and that might be the last chance to either get players back or lose them until 8.0. Changing the patch cycle from 3 months to 4.5 months (a 50% increase) was the dumbest decision Yoshi-P ever made. Having less patches per year is a quick way to have less success per year but its also compounded by the stupidity to back load all of the casual content.
Firing writers would also go a long way to bring some faith to the community but Japan is a dumb country built on loyalty so we're stuck with these crap writers smh.
The bigger MMOs are same as they've always been, WoW, FFXIV, GW2, ESO and maybe a new one like Throne and Liberty but that game probably fell off by now

No one has accurate numbers on the players and they said DT was a big success, I am never having issues finding groups for anything either… People are just latching unto this statistic because it lets them doompost.

The guy who made this video only makes negative videos about Asian Rpgs, he is farming Asmongold views, he praises WOW to the heavens and been hating Dawntrail before it even came out. he is trying to survive because his only popular videos are the negative ones.
Stopped after completing Endwalker and being very satisfied with the ending I just wanted to keep taht memory like the ending of the game xD

My problem with this criticism is that he mainly focuses on issues with the story and that the game is story driven thus impacting his experiences. And this to me is ignoring what this game is. ITS AN MMO. It should be providing us a massive multiplayer experience, which it DOES NOT. They made this chaotic raid but raids are honestly the least community building shit in this game. I expected something like BA of Eureka and DRS of Bozja. Those things, even today can be run with very minimal preparation, they encourage talking with each other and making it feel like i play an mmo. Raids – Ultimates and even Unreal is just "here is the plan, learn it, if you fuck it up, then f you" – most of the discussion in party finder is just who fucked up, there is literally ZERO positive discussion happening for these content. So unless you go with a static (but even with that its a hit or miss) you will have very minimal positive mmo experience with them. Casuals didnt get ANY new content and wont get a content until like 6 more months besdies the 1 time best tribe thingy which is 3 dailies for 7 days until you are done…
The story to me and it not being multiple choice makes a lot of senes. Its not a single player game, so they cant do the same as like quantic dreams did with detroit become human.
And the game is now better at teaching people, but nowhere near as it should and the community is soooo used shittalk shittalk shittalk and more shittalk, especially on NA DCs that its very tormenting experiecne to be a new player for raiding. I put up a pf with the sprout friendly icon saying its fresh and people shittalk newbies after ONE pull. And I wish this was a single time experience, but my newby healer friend constantly gets shitalked when he does something for the first time and fails. He got shittalked in M2 NORMAL, cause he is a healer, he died with the other healer, and now everyone dies… well duh… The worse is when newbies get shittalked in dungeons, like can you not? Do you not see the sprout icon?
This game is unable to retain new players because
1. top 1 % of player base (the ultimate players) have to be pleased first, so new casual players have nothing to do for a long time (and majority of the playerbase is in this category)
2. the community is not as roses and peaches as its advertised
3. the biggest voice of complaints is coming from those who play 5% of the actual game content (raiders)
SE saw that ew cater ot casual who make 80% of the playerbase and said F THAT and said f the casuals we will cater to raiders and midcore and they now see the truth that without casuals ffxiv wont last.
On the topic of the gear. I was talking to friends who have never played wow and they were surprised to learn how different it could be. In wow you get to pick from a selection of active / passive trinkets that modify how your kit plays. You also have 2 / 4 sets for your armor every tier that change abilities and change your rotation. Not to mention that you also can get gear that lets you have any stats you want on your gear crit/haste/mastery/versatility. Obviously there will still be a bis but this also means that for every tier in the expansion your class changes and has new mechanics to play with. FF felt a little stale in that regard. 2 choices every raid tier. Tome or savage. That's it.

FFXIV is an online game, players join and leave all the time like any other game.
The problem is that the game is failing to keep the large crowd of players that have joined within the last 5 years.
It also doesn't help that the game has felt less of an MMO and an RPG over the recent expansions.
As someone who has cleared all the ultimates except fru, theres very little content that still keeps me engaged. Ask anyone whos cleared more than two ultimates and they will agree that the game becomes signifcantly easier, as if the veil is lifted and you see the game as it is. This is not an elitist opinion. Theres very little randomness inside the game (I do not count mechanics with scripted random assigned tasks). Punishment, reward, challenge, mystery and overcoming failure are all required to make an engaging game. We already know what we are going to be doing in 7.2 and 7.3 and most of it will just be more of the same. This is fine when the core gameplay is fun, but it's become stale and simplified.
Having the same patches every expansion is the status quo doesn't mean it's fun or healthy for the longevity of the game.
MSQ being a visual novel that will not challenge you is fine, and probably the best way to tell a linear story inside an MMORPG. However, outside of that the game should be allowed to breath with a variety of difficulty. The only difficulty that currently exists are: The speed, complexity, and punishment of puzzles, length, and sometimes a DPS check.
There needs to be a variety of difficulty.
Ffxiv players have become allergic to grinds and "time wasters", yet they'll redo a 200 hour long msq on an alt. Spend +100 hours on a single ultimate fight, reclearing it dozens and dozens of times. schedule a fictional job into their life at a roleplay venue. Or even spend 100 hours on tedious achievement grinds. Yet time investments into player progression or power is unacceptable.
All in all, wasting time is subjective and if you're having fun that's all that matters. Don't let the haters stop you from enjoying the game but also be open to feed back. We all play the same game
The large part if you go back to ARR on a fresh toon the pacing is really good, Every 5 Levels of quick questing Boom Solo Duty, or A dungeon etc. ARR post trimming is so snappy and the world feels like it respects your time, By Endwalker the cutscenes get so exacerbated to the point it becomes a movie. In ARR the animated cutscene length is maybe 55 minutes to an hour an a half. Everything else you're questing or dungeoning.
I'm in post EW and I have no desire to finish it considering how bad everyone says DT is and let's be real, I'm not gonna grind 150 hours of mundane dialogue to get to raid content for gear that doesn't really do anything or even matter cause the only thing that matters in 14 is ilvl, I've actually downgraded in gear just to raise my ilvl in the leveling experience, ff14 needs another overhaul, the leveling experience needs to be more social and exciting, gearing needs to matter, mmos are all about gearing and being social, DT isn't gonna bring me back to the game. If they don't change the game up and focus less on MSQ I don't think I'll ever play this again, if they wanna make a story game, then don't sell it as an mmo, this is bullshit.
Its more like a veteran players getting tired of the same game problem isn it? I am a sprout and me and my friends are still enjoying the shit out of the game at the moment. Also, he lost me there when he mentioned throne and liberty.
All the D riders of SE, Yoshi P and such created this. Complacency. Stagnation. "THEY CAN'T DO ALL THOSE REASONABLE THINGS! DEV TIME! RESOURCES! QA PIPELINE! YOU ARE NOT IN GAME DEV!" If any industry got sucked off as hard as game devs do for all the excuses for them not implementing reasonable QoL because "code issues" they'd be fired and homeless. I wish, man, I WISH that I could tell my boss "Sorry, we can't do what you need, we don't have enough dev time…the code is all jumbled" for why I couldn't innovate. You're telling me that the videogame industry has NEVER had time to innovate? To change? To react to changes in player needs or desires? This is capitalism, either compete or go bankrupt. Your competition won't be held back by convenient excuses. You need to stop making excuses for game developers. This is why FFXIV IS THE WAY THAT IT IS. So many SLAVES accept nothing and are grateful to pay their sub for trash and neglect. Apparently all of the devs working on FFXIV are so stupid, and incompetent that they can't iterate and innovate on the game. Do you understand how insulting that is to their intelligence and skill for their craft? What the F do you think game devs did before, when they were like three dudes in a garage? They had deadlines. They had restrictions. They had all the problems in the world. They still managed to make games. Make changes. Innovate. FFXIV is a LIVE SERVICE game, if they can't handle the heat, they should gtfo of the kitchen.
Dawntrail was the first XPac I didn't come back for in FF14. It just wasn't appealing, and looking from the outside in and it didnt motivate me to get back in. It certainly didn't make me feel like it was something I needed or something I was missing out on.
I think they had an opportunity to really shake things up and they just didn't rise up to the challenge. They played it safe and stuck to the usual suspects. And that's coming from someone with a platinum trophy on the game.
Normally even when I take a break between XPacs I still leave up my Sub to support the game, the devs and the community but just recently I went ahead and canceled it as I dont see myself returning anytime soon and that's unfortunate.
Dawntrail is too hard for me and a LOT of other players a lot of this would be fixed if they made the base difficulty easier again as the majority of casuals can't beat the base game lol. Playing through ANY dawnrail content in ques always feels like a chore and makes me never EVER want to que.Base game is too long for me and the average player ON TOP of having a shitty ass story theres no reason to suffer through that bullshit. You guys GOT EXACTLY WHAT YOU whined and bitched for the last few expansions harder bases game ff114 and its KILLING the mmo. No more money for you idiots that are too prideful to admit you were wrong and the majority of people who play ff14 are bad and CANT LEARN no matter how much times they try and repeat a dungeon but sure go on a gigantic elitist dictator whinge and kill ff14 KILL YOUR 7outube career and job.

I subbed for 6 months on the release of Dawntrail but only played for 2 months & just haven't been interested since, not even when 7.1 dropped.
Still got 2 weeks left on it, what a waste. Never subbing again unless Yoshi P cuts the woke crap & changes up the content cycle.
I'm not going to argue with anyone about it, I think the game went woke, END OF.
And the content cycle is just boring now…
