Everyone knows about teaching how to heal. But what about BEING healed? There’s some things people look over. Let’s talk about them.

I think my biggest other tip for the newer players is the biggest help you can do if you're struggling is to check your own gear, especially I've found in stuff which hard syncs your item level. I had a run of Stone Vigil (Hard) where I was healing a Dark Knight who was dying super fast because the best stuff on them was from Aurum Vale, not to mention a Bard wearing the Artifact gear still. I had to micromanage them so hard during the pulls as they weren't even close to that dungeon's sync point I basically had Bene rolling on cooldown. The tank did everything right in dungeon, but their gear was holding them back.
You forgot to tell the ranged not to stand in f'ing Timbuktu, outside the range of aoe heals. I'm looking at you, BLMs who nail their feet to the edge of the arena, and you, BRDs and DNCs who run laps around the outside edge. This is probably not a problem in high end content, but I mostly run dungeons and often want to smack these type of ranged dps. I get that BLMs don't want to stand where they're going to be affected by others' player targeted AOE. That's fine. However, there's a difference between standing a little apart and standing at max distance from the boss, the melee, the tank…and the healer.
Bloodbath is so insanely underrated. Especially in AoE. And if you're dragoon using life surge in AoE with bloodbath, you almost heal to full with just that
Tanks: for the love of god, no matter how low you get, do not stop doing damage in order to heal yourself. Invuln if you're really that scared, but you shouldn't ever be touching gcd heals like clemency unless something is horribly wrong (like a dead healer).
One time in roulettes I had a level 80 tank spam clemency in every pack because I was doing my job right and was keeping him low. The enemies died so slowly that, counterintuitively, the tank was actually taking WAY MORE DAMAGE and made keeping him alive way harder. I was dumping all my resources on him the moment they came off cooldown, and yet I was still sweating and struggling to keep this guy alive. Each and every w2w pull was a living nightmare and took forever.
And yet, since he didn't see me cast very many gcd heals since he was watching the castbar (y'know, bc by 80, 95% of your heals are ogcd or instant cast), this guy had the AUDACITY to ask me for MORE HEALS.
Do not be this guy. Please…. please just trust your healer and keep doing damage. I promise we're watching your healthbar and we're just trying to time our heals to get the most out of them
No.1 rule of being healed is taking 1 or 2 more steps to be within range of Asylum/Sacred Soil
Dev extended the range for reasons, and it is not to make one move away out of it.
Stick around your healers, especially in alliance raids i often see dps are nowhere in aoe heal range.
Healers mostly stick around the bosses hitbox, in order to get an aoe heal on the tank, you gonna miss out if you're out of range, all of a sudden you die and cry "wHeRe hEaLs?
I’m sure this is one you’re going to hear a lot but I messed up once by doing the same critical mistake, you need to be within the healer’s range to be healed. Stay within melee range of the boss close to your party for a while after a raidwide goes off so the healers can AoE heal you even if the next mechanic sends you elsewhere
instructions unclear, was not healed
Always appreciate you Wesk.
you forgot to mention. be close to party and not be in Timbuktu.
One thing I think contributes to the perception of “tank not getting healed” is shields. It’s hard to tell glancing at your normal HP bar when you have a shield up and how much shield you have on. It was only when I started playing shield healers that I understood how shields are communicated to the player. While I think what is there is serviceable I believe something a little more obvious might be beneficial in getting more people to understand how shields work and how important they can be because even some DPS have a shield OGCD ability like Manaward. Now this could be just me but I feel this would be a net positive and encourage people to use these abilities more.
Wake up honey, I'm a simple man and there's a new WeskAlber video to upvote I see.
i didn't know that i wasn't allowed to sprint after being rezed
Thanks, very useful. I’ll admit to having not done some of these things just due to lack of this knowledge. Now I know!
If the healer really wanted to heal me, they would have rescued me
the only time I've used vercure was when the healer seemed to be struggling I used it as a sort of don't worry about me Think I've used riase more oftem
2 useful tips that will scare your enemies:
1. be in range and sight of your healer as much as possible
2. when you and more poeple got hit by something avoidable or unavoidable cuddle a little bit with your healer until you have enough health and your healer will love you for that 😇
Yes, there are situations when you shouldn't do that because of mechanics, but in general the 2 tips should help 😋
good video. i would add that as a ranged, after you are done with your spread position, try to slidecast back to the middle of the room if possible so the healers AOE can hit you. Many buffs are 30 yalms now, but WHMs Cure3 still has very limited range.
Also as a RDM, VerCure has saved me many times from raidwides since caster tend to have the lowest HP of the group.
Also – to anybody who does this – Don't shit on healers; not every body is knowledgeable on each and every dungeon.
I know this wasn't the point of the video, but it is annoying to run into healers who prioritize reviving FIRST, healing SECOND. Bonus points if they hardcast a revive, then cancel because they need to move for a mechanic, and all that time, they failed to revive and also failed to heal. More bonus points if they swiftcast revive a teammate, then immediately proceed to hardcast revive another teammate without first healing the newly revived teammate. I'm a healer main, and I don't trust other healers in duty finder.
As a DPS I save my self-heals for when I have taken some avoidable damage so the healer can stay focused on the tank and unavoidable damage. Me hitting Second Wind or Bloodbath (or DNC's heal dance) is more me trying to signal to the healer that I'm fine and they don't have to waste time on me rather than me panicking. I hope it doesn't come across as me not trusting or nagging the healer.
As a healer main, the biggest thing imo is being in range of heals and mits. It was especially a problem before SHB when the range of heals and bubbles were much smaller, and even though with all the healing range buffs have made it easier, it's still something to keep in mind of especially if you're a ranged or caster. For example in TOP (before the recent healing range buff), it was a nightmare trying to heal in Hello World because the mechanic makes everyone spread out, but it was much easier to heal efficiently when everyone went in after every Latent Defect . Many heals and mits (as well as non healer mits like dark missionary and samba) are/were only 15y and you should make a conscious effort to be within that range unless you really need to be out of range. Ofcourse it's the healers job to position themselves well too, but all too often have I encountered ranged just forgetting to move near the party and just hang out in narnia.
The amount of time I've been in Expert Roulette with Warrior, use 0 mitigiation because Bloodwhetting is gonna top me off in one GCD or as a Dark Knight saying "I will use invuln on pulls" before and have the healer just spend everything to keep me above 80% is too much and I'm frankly a bit tired of it. I get wanting to keep people topped off (I'm even guilty of this, I love using an oGCD group wide aoe heal right after an aoe) but bruh, if I'm at 50% hp, I'm not gonna die to the next two hits, especially if I'm mitigated or ready to use a move to keep me alive, just DPS to your heart's content my guy.
Addition to timing your raise, for mechanics.
You are immune for 5 seconds to Damage, not to Knockbacks.
So if mechanic is a knockback, be aware that you should not raise before it goes off or boss will just yeet you.
And YES, Healers are not meant to HEAL you , they are meant to keep you ALIVE.
Combine this with, actually stay within our range and you have a far better time.
These ones usually only vex me in savage.
Where dps either complain they not topped (while next mechanic not even gonna chip 20% of their hp bar if they perform it correctly).
Or they not topped when needed, cause they shukuchied the hell out of range before a single heal could go off. (p8s high concept was infamous for this one pre mit range buff)
Also just, don't forget to throw out your job specific mitigation. Bards, Dancers, Monks and probably more I don't have everything memorised to just throw out at a moments notice have good things to use to mitigate damage. And Black Mages, Samurais, Ninjas, Reapers and probably more have good personal mitigations. Though admittedly I'm not always sure when to Manaward myself. Or I do it too late and get lold by animation lag xP
I intentionally ignore teammates standing miles away in Alliance raids.
We're at level 80 raids, you should know by now to stand near the group and healers.
Also, be patient if you die. A healer will normally not res you immediately during cool downs unless there is a window in the battle and it's worth the healer's dps loss. There's a lot of thought into who gets a heal and res and when. Healer is dps like everyone else but your DPS is not limited to your own attacks.
If you enjoy puzzle solving, give healer a try. ⚕️
Old programmer joke -> DEC 25 = OCT 31. Thanks for the advice/video – this is a great reference for some of my IRL friends.
Как всегда полезно и информативно ^^ когда-нибудь и мой канал будет приносить людям улыбку и пользу, но это потом, а пока что воины света, пожалуйста, как хиллер прошу: внимательно послушайте этот гайд!
Blood for the blood
loliLILY4 player content, accepting a rez as a tank, remember to provoke the boss. You died, so you lost all the aggro you had on boss, so its gonna be attacking the healers/dps.
Same with co-tanks, if main tank died, use Provoke on boss.
As an off tank you should always be #2 in aggro list anyways incase main tank dies so boss automatically attacks you. Turn your tank stance on about 20 seconds into the fight, watch the aggro metter not to accidental steal aggro from main tank. turn it off just in case or use Shirk on main tank.
Here’s the thing with the holding on raise too. It’s a full minute. If there’s any mechanic you suck at and you died prior and you’re not needed at the time? Wait out the mechanic. Hell there are some fights with having raise cheese strats. Looking at you Goodbye, World.
As a melee dps main, I like making some use of Second Wind and Bloodbath. Obviously it's very small healing, but I figure it's not going to be get used much at all, so might as well use them if it isn't slowing me down. I'll use it if I notice my hp is dropping a lot during a boss or trash pull, like there's unavoidable damage that the healer is just having a hard time keeping up with, so I try to lighten the load a little. When I get raised, I obviously wait for the invulnerability of course, but once it's about to run out, if I still have low hp cause the healer needed to keep the tank up or something, I use those role actions first so I can heal myself up that little bit once the invuln is gone.
I also Feint and Addle when I can lol, Feint for most tank busters, Addle for most raidwides
In dungeons, when you hear the "bing!" letting you know you're being targeted, don't run behind a wall to LOS your healer.😂
Another reason you might sometimes find yourself missing 20% hp, even with unavoidable damage coming up, is abilities that apply shields often also restore a bit of hp in the process and are much more efficient when you're not fully topped off prior to usage. Esp in 8 player content, regen healer might be ok with not topping up knowing their cohealing shield healer will be applying shields for an upcoming mechanic.
And then there are the healers who will yell and insult a Red Mage for using Vercure to get Dualcast when there's nothing to attack. Trust people to do their jobs, check your ego, and work for a smooth run – I really don't see why that's such a huge ask.
An idea for another video is how to off-tank for those who are just getting into tanking outside of dungeons. When should you stand next to the other tank, and when should you stand with the party? How do you tank swap? How should you be doing your mitigation? Should you put stance on after the first part of the fight, or just be prepared to provoke upon the tank's death? I see these questions coming up a lot with newer tanks and think a video would be cool!
Information long-timers take for granted, but is important for newbies to know. I'll be sure to put this in the list of videos I give mates I'm getting into the game!
Nah this came a bit too late because there was a SMN who kept eating all the AoEs & btching about not getting healed.
I should've give him this video instead of rescuing him into the suzaku hole in the middle 😂
When im white mage, i normally heal DPSs with regen, cuz if they are dodging, its all they need.
3:19, holy fuck I HATE when that shit happens. CLEARLY had HG up, CLEARLY had enough to soak damage before HP falling to zero. grrrr, its stupid and the biggest flaw of FFXIV 'slow combat'. 7:54 no, GOOD RDM, get that dualcast ready while transition. heh
Really good to "see" you back in the swing of a tutorial vid homie!
i had a pld in a dungeon who kept using clemency the moment they take damage.
i was a scholar.
I gave up on healing entirely after the third excog and let his mp handle it
9:29 Imagine preaching using CDs while not using cover/intervention on sprout dps that is about to die as OT PLD with full gauge
