The MMO market is seeing many competitors to FFXIV improve their housing, but FFXIV hasn’t changed much over the years. WoW has announced housing with their next expansion Midnight and Guild Wars 2 recently did a massive update to their housing. Even FFXIV Mobile recently announced looks like it’s going to have housing.

they just need to add the newest final city as a ton of apartment housing
If they do instanced housing it needs to be a completely separate system that everyone gets. Sure let people use the interiors we all know, but everyone should just get that house and it never demolishes.
I really love the community housing wards, having neighbours (especially active ones) is REALLY fun, its essentially a full ward of player self-expression and that adds so much to making the community feel alive.
I'd never give up my medium in Shiro, even if I just got a free large instanced house. It should definitely exist, mainly for those that can't afford/keep getting unlucky with housing lotteries or can't commit to a ward house due to demolition timers.
Eso has the best housing systems in any mmo
no shot theyre moving to instanced housing in 14. mobile is just its separate thing. wards are already established and built into the story(firmament). i dont see them going through all that trouble to make such a huge change
Tencent. There's gonna be some gross monetization stuff afoot. Also, I have a house in FFXIV and I don't care if there's instanced housing. IN FACT, if instanced housing completely does away from the monthly auto demolition warning, I WILL BE 100% FOR IT! I do not want to have to renew my sub because my house is about to be destroyed. I'm already doing that now, but if these kind of changes happen, I will support it all the way.
Sorry to say but the long term future of XIV is….fucked for one simple reason. SE are retards. They have and continue to refuse to invest and expand the games buget which has been and continues to be the main issue of most of the long running problems the game suffers from. But they will invest hundreds of millions of dollars into a FF7 remake trilogy that underperformed
GW2 and FFXIV player here, as good as the homestead system is in GW2. You only can get your party (5 people) inside. No one else can enter.
That means 5 PEOPLE. ONLY 5 PEOPLE CAN BE IN YOUR HOMESTEAD. It's a housing feature mostly for solo players (it allows their alts to roam around in the homestead) and small parties, and meanwhile XIV allows up to around 80-90 players in their housing.
XIV Housing needs changes but it is fine right now.
Housing in FF14 has always seemed like a scam to me. You lose it after not playing for 3 months, right? I want to play other games, man. I can't fomo myself like this.
spitting facts. since 2014 i've had a love hate relationship and also is one of the main reasons I have had a consistent sub…. for just that alone I wish it was just bit better… user friendly and not a 2-3 day project of relearning how to glitch things into walls to have a nice virtual house. I'm a millennial and its probably the only house I'll ever own lol
Our FC solved our housing problem by moving to the Dynamis server last August. The transfer was free and there was plenty of housing at that time. Head over to Dynamis , check out the wards for yourself.
I think that in the end, FFXIV will add an instanced housing option alongside what is currently available. This will satisfy a lot of people, but like island sanctuary, will have some significant limitations. For one thing, I doubt the instanced housing system will support the creation of nightclubs and hosting of large events. And exploring random people's houses will likely not be thing either. But that's fine for most people.
How have I never discovered you have a YouTube channel
when your community contributions to Fashion Report are so massive??
I am not worried. WoW getting housing is like lipstick on a pig. The community and game over there are fundamentally flawed and cannot be fixed with any new updates. The only hope is the make a new game that creates a new community from scratch rather then continuing the one they have. I came to FF14 because of the amazing players and understanding community, and I will never go back to WoW.
Oh if Blizzard does housing, I promise you they will implement it waaaaay better than Square-Enix.
Square-Enix struggles with technology and software engineering. Whenever somebody asks Yoshida if FFXIV could do something every other MMO did 10 years ago, there's some data transfer issue, or an architecture problem, or whatever, and they can't do it. This is actually a common problem amongst Japanese game devs and one they're well aware of: they're way behind in tech. The reason why Japanese games are so successful is creativity, not tech.
Competition brings excellence. If WOW does do it better, then XIV needs to improve, and so on.
no way they would make instance housing because they won't be able to keep you stay subbing. It's that pathetic.
I moved to dynamis and got a medium with zero competition. I don't mind having to data centre travel for certain content as I have my medium house.
WoW housing is gonna be Garrisons 2.0. I have little faith in Blizz to now fuck it ontop of MTXing the fuck out of stuff.
More interested in the exterior
revoke any house owned by an fc with only one member.
I dabble in classic/ hardcore WoW and have little interest in retail. In GW2 I mainly did WvW but kinda lost interest when they introduced the warclaw mount as it didn't feel the same (plus my world kept getting stacked against and I loved Deso too much to move). Can't see myself going to either just for housing.
In FF14 I've always been a casual, solo player and don't do much these days aside from crafting, housing and doing the odd raid or dungeon. I have my dream FC medium in Lavender Beds and my private medium in Shirogane and am perfectly content with both. They'll get upgraded to mansion interiors and I'm happy with that as I tend to afk in either of them when I'm doing other things.
I forsee WoW's player housing to be chalk full of cash shop transactions on an obnoxious level.
I've never made a play by play comment before xD
1 minute in: "Customize your cozy home", since this is a faithful mobile adaptation, they're probably going to do it the same way as PC, buying a plot, customizing it how you like with some minor changes to the building UI and shouldn't be taken as "Houses for everyone!"
2 minutes in: I feel they should make instanced *Wards*, they are more than capable of doing so and could double/triple the amount of available housing like… Goblet, ward 17 – instance 9 – plot 36, granted it doesn't solve it for millions of players to get a house but across multiple servers it'd alleviate most people not getting a house at all.
4 minutes in: as a wow veteran of 18 years, I played from the original beta to shadowlands, WoW promises features and implements them as an "Oops! we thought you wanted it this way!" version and then abandons it. not even WoW players care about WoW lore, they skip everything to get to endgame as fast as possible to get to raiding and the best gear and go back and read/watch the cutscenes later. WoW will probably be a "House" (like FFXIV's Apartments) where it's a square room that has spots for you to right click and put specific things in the spots (like a square on a wall where you can put a boss souvenir, like the Onyxia head in the trailer) and change the overall look but that's it. it won't compete with FFFXIV's housing at all since it's *almost fully customizable*. this is the same blizzard that when the player base said "bring back to the mobile auction house!", an app on your phone to manage your buying and selling on the AH, they gave us a mount that you could only use in game… then took it away for years and then brought it back for the anniversary. for real money.
10 minutes in: concluding the 4 minute mark paragraph I wrote: from experience, WoW will drop the ball and let it roll off into the woods and forget it. it's going to be a half-baked idea with a microwaved execution with the only additional things added from that point going forward will be drops to put into pre-determined slots. they wanted to try player housing back in 2004 when the game launched with a portal to a housing district in Stormwind (didn't put one in Orgrimmar as they decided it was too late in development to do so), there was a blue portal behind a gate from Launch to Cataclysm (until it was turned into a generic gate following Deathwing's attack) and everyone thought it was going to be turned into a raid when player housing was scrapped. they could've went back to it over the span of 20 years, even before FFXIV 1.0 came out, but decided not to because they put Garrisons and Guild halls in the game as the closest thing to your "Home". I feel this is too little too late, I traded Shadowlands for Shadowbringers and at first, I didn't care about FFXIV's story because I had the WoW leveling "GOTTAGOFAST" mindset, but Shadowbringer's story made me more patient and to actually pay attention to lore. and this is coming from someone that used to know every crumb of detail about WoW lore that I could probably teach a college class on it because like everyone else, I spedrun leveling to max level and went back to the stuff that interested me, which linked to everything else.
Conclusion: TL;DR: Don't worry about WoW's player housing, Blizzard will mess it up or make it underwhelming at best.
I don't know why they can't do instance housing. THey have the Island sanctuary which you can place unlimited exterior housing items down, so they should be able to do the same with a whole house.
Stop calling it a crisis. It makes you sound entitled. However, there is a housing issue that exists as a result of the constraints of an antiquated coding system. Players have been saying that if SE doesn't implement instanced housing the game would be in trouble ever since Heavensward. Yet, here we are.
SE is a failing company that is barely keeping its head above water, they have way more to worry about than throwing the resources required to implement this feature, so they are doing what they can with what they have. I would strongly suggest to keep that in mind.
If they can right their ship in the near future, then perhaps they'll be able to get this done. In the meantime, try to enjoy what is available.
well housing is a waste of time, gil and people so i personally dont really care what happens to it
i will never like WoW i just dont like the art style of monsters unless they add cat girls
Tencent is making FFXIV mobile? No thanks. Not having the CCP hack into my phone.
I hope wow housing is amazing for everyone who wants it, but sadly I can't get past the wow aesthetic. Why does a simple table or chair always need to look SO FREAKING CHUNKY
WoW has freedom to use almost any addons, and the only limitation will be the system itself. How flexible Blizzard will create it, that is the main question. WoW addon community is so big that in 1 month they will create addons to help you without the fear of getting a ban.
