  1. If anyone else is playing along themselves, it's highly recommended that you beat the Kugane Palace dungeon first. No spoilers, but a familiar figure is present in both the dungeon and this questline…

  2. 37:37 I realize the werewolf outfit was already asked about but I would LOVE that mount tbqh. Like, don’t get me wrong, the Heavensward EX birds are great, but also, I’d just like a normal not glowy one too to add to my mount roulette.

  3. I have a few alts, but for the income of my main two, let's see. My Roegadyn is a magitek engineer in Ul' Dah, she mostly gets her money from commissions from adventures, and contract work for the airships. Shes made decent money from decommissioning Garlean left overs, and as such owns her home, and is living comfortably enough to own a regalia g that she fixed up.

My other Warrior of light is a Tural native, for those not keeping up with recent news thats the name for "the new world", basically America where blue mages, and moomal ja come from. She's a blue mage and participates in the carnival as well as helping out the new guild, and as such doesn't have too much coin. Thankfully she's able to supplement her income by giving talks to the various guilds about "the new world", so she's comfortable.

  4. 13:00 I will say, when I was playing this myself, this part of the quest REALLY broke me in terms of immersion and really just tone and feel for Hildi for a while. I have no worries about Hildibrand, he'll be fine, he's protected by clown magic. But the idea that my WoL would stand there, idle, as a living sentient creature was being sold not just into slavery but to be butchered and cannibalized was completely beyond the pale for me. Making it worse I had done the tribal questline for his race so I had an even better understanding of just what kind of terror would have been going through him during this whole scene, and yet the idea my WoL just stood by and let it happen?!? I was honestly incensed, infuriated. I had to stop in the middle of the quest, and message others in my FC to confirm the qiqirn would be ok before I could keep going.

For me this was the ONE real major storytelling misstep FFXIV has taken.

  5. Playfriends, it's back to Kugane, and back to the case of the missing Inspector! This is your spoiler free lore comment!

0:25 – This line is almost certainly a reference to the "Blame yourself or God" line from the original Final Fantasy Tactics. The Ivalice Raid was being released between these patches.

3:10 – Jocat has a great prompt for role playing here! Along with determining your character's income stream, you can also ask what your character spends their funds on, like the vice of the teahouse or pipe. Does your character spend their money on fine dining, gambling, or perhaps stalking a certain raven haired catgirl across continents for years?

3:30 – As Dan states, it's almost certain the Scions take some manner of salary for their work. But we will later learn that the organization will reimburse certain transportation costs, which may include atheryte fees. You just have to fill out all of the forms that Tataru gives you, in triplicate…

13:20 – Playfriends, have you ever had a fear of being captured in a far off land and being sold at auction with the express purpose of the buyers consuming your flesh for the false promise of longevity? Just me?

18:10 – This, and likely the entire auction sequence, is a reference to the FF6 auction house, where a wealthy man frequently outbids the player. (Thanks to callowGuru for pointing this out)

30:40 – And you, too, can don this wolfish costume! For a price of $5 on the cash shop. Essential for Sonic cosplays.

32:25 – This barding costs 150,000 MGP at the Gold Saucer.

35:50 – This sequence is apparently also a reference to FF6, where you can encounter a wolf thief, and choose between catching them or a moogle! (Thanks to Albeleón for pointing this out)

I should mention that the Lanner mounts, like the one the Wolf Burglar possesses, were the mount theme of the Extreme duties in Heavensward. For Stormblood, the Extreme mount theme is Kamuy, or wolves. ARR had horses!

Next time! The chase for the Wolf Burglar continues!

  6. My WoL is also an omnicrafter, but like Victor I think of him as mostly a weaver. I've even set up a tailor shop in my personal Free Company room. Though in combat dress I main Red Mage, fulfilling the ideals of the Crimson Duelists and essentially living off the gratitude of the rescued.

  7. I love those RP building questions, and follow twitter accounts dedicated to such questions lol.

Gen’s income is relatively modest. He finally won the housing lottery for a small house but has enough to have retainers sell things for him and is hellbent on saving for a Medium house next. While I personally went the omnicrafter route, he canonically mostly does Goldsmithing and Weaving with some Culinarian on the side. He may not be the best, but he’s able to afford the expensive teas he so adores as well as the aetheryte travel and that’s the important thing.

As for the Scions he gets the most along with, it’s definitely the twins. He’s basically adopted the both of them as his little siblings at this point. Bonus points: Gen and Allisae will egg each other on in the chaos factor, to everyone’s horror. There are other factors for further in this question, but this is just Stormblood and we have character development to come. :>

  8. I'd guess Durmin's at that level of adventurer where his reputation pays for what he needs where he doesn't just… get a place to sleep and a meal to eat, simply for being well connected. Like in Ishgard, Ala Mhigo, and Doma he's got connections in high enough places that he'd be allowed and WELCOME in a royal/noble household.

  9. On the Wolf costume, at the time of release 4.25, the most recent Halloween (All Saint's Wake) had just given away the Wolf outfit for free (now available on the FFXIV Store). The Gentle Dead Man even received the costume from the same source. This is one of the rare times that the game acknowledges that the holiday events exist outside of a holiday quest. I can off the top of my head only think of one other holiday exclusive NPC ever being added to any non holiday questline.

  10. I'm still unsure how Hidilbrand knows the Ultima/Heart of Sabic chant
What secrets lie inside his zombiebrain
From the deepest pits of the seven hells to the pinnacle of the heavens indeed

  11. 35:03 no they’re dango. bomb-go, if you will

35:49 Good thing Victor Quibbles is here to craft him a new suit

36:16 Hildibrand is basically unkillable. I’m sure he’ll be fine from a little fall

    36:33 exactly, Nashu!

    37:04 just durmin’s hat is visible 😂😂😂

39:47 not even Durmin is that fast and he has the power of snap cuts

50:57 do any of us really?

Oh how I’ve missed Hildibrand’s fantastic facial expressions. And everything else

  12. 0:23 Wow, what a quest opening.
2:12 How would Victor look in yakuza-level ostentatious attire, I wonder?
4:23 I can hear that burn sizzle.
4:51 Why stop at WoL? Backstories are fun, whenever you have enough leeway to make em.
6:55 That execution feels very specific, and not unfamiliar… yet I can't place it. It also reminds me of HALO 2's whole "hung by your entrails and your corpse paraded through the city" thing.
13:43 "Eoruzea" feels like exactly how it would sound in the "English -> Japanese" adaptation. Eo-ru-ze-a.
17:46 I'm actually inclined to the harsh one.
25:41 Boy, Shigure is not gonna be having a good time when he finds out he's wrong.
42:11 But Y'shtola has sass and sarcasm! And swagger!
42:52 One of Alisaie's best qualities, imo.
44:07 Yea, that is a bit weird, isn't it? Literal walking, talking catfish is fine, but a rat-man is shocking.
    48:16 I like this guy.
    50:57 Me either.
52:26 Well, that didn't take long.

  13. Oo the rp purposes money question is good. I imagine my wol sells all the junk via retainers though. Theres always someone who wants most junk. At the very least i can see rowena suuuper undercutting worth to get hero of eorzea merch…and my wol is none the wiser cos shes not money minded. …but better money minded than alphinaud…as long as she's got food and board though she's happy.

  14. Gotta love when the Sekisegumi dont allow you to join search for a thief. So then you try to search for a thief yourself and by so doing are judged even more unworthy to join the Sekisegumi.
