Now let’s talk about the healer damage kits going into Dawntrail
:
the healer DPS kits definitely aren’t balanced right now
source
To be quite clear: I love healing in this game and it's my main role and I plan to take SCH/SGE/WHM/AST all up to 100 in Dawntrail and play them extensively. I do however just wish there was a bit more DPS kit for Scholar. Eg: Miasma 2 and multidotting. I am definitely not quitting healer. Just wish we had a bit more of a zesty/spicy normal outside of those funky awesome moments!
Healer "strike" is kinda lol; there's plenty of players who will fill that void.
I always play healers but ffxiv healing is basically dps so I switched to dps. Love the game but not really how it deals with support. If the class is only fun during prog or when things are going wrong that’s a problem to me.
The thing that gets me is that, and I don't mean to insult anyone with this, is that the devs themselves seem clueless about what to do with healers, even Yoshi-P himself. Their overall mentality is to make the game accessible. There's nothing wrong with that. But there comes a point when accessibility start to affect enjoyment.
Maybe they've looked at other games and saw that healers tend to be blamed a lot for other people's mistakes and didn't want that to happen in XIV, so they just gave tanks and DPS a lot of heals and mitigation so they wouldn't need to rely so heavily on the healer. That, coupled with the 'WoW exodus' that happened in Shadowbringers, could have contributed to that point of view.
There were also moments that left healers baffled and confused. Those being when Yoshi-P said that their internal testing team's healer became so good at the role that a replacement was called, and when he outright dismissed healer's concerns and told them to 'go play ultimate'. I doubt that they haven't heard all the complains from healers, I just don't get why they choose to write them off so casually.
Healer needs to do damage but only gets a couple of damage buttons is why I don't do heal in this game.
I see a solution as making a actual hard or savage mode for each dungeon, with slightly higher item level for the gear or sone mount or something, cause the MSQ needs to be clearable if 4 below average players get grouped together. My question though is what % of players would actually play it regularly if harder modes were made more common, cause you can’t make it so there is 1 less dungeon or trial for everyone each patch so 5% of the player base has a new place to play.
My other question is if we make it so everyone is literally dependent on the healer not messing up, there should be mechanics like if a dps doesn’t spring cross the field to stop a lever from dropping everyone dies, or make it so if the tank messes up everyone dies. It should not be in normal context if 1 person makes a mistake the other 3 are forced to fail.
I think if healers had more offensive moves Id want to play them. I main tank, and bard. And I barely play healers cuz its my least favourite role. I leveled whitemage and sage to max level, so Ive tried out the roles but unless they change up the jobs they are probably only going to still be the roles I pick when every other role is taken.
Healer's only interesting when your party is bad at the game. (That includes learning the game to put it more nicely.) It would be nice to have a small dps kit rather than JUST 2 damage buttons.
Im not a healer, but I've always thought healers should have their own damage rotation, too. I've seen a lot of people against that, though, so I've never really pushed the idea.
I really think healerless TOP should have set off every balance alarm at the studio. Even in random groups, when I get a WAR tank I just don't bother healing, if I have to think about healing them then something is very wrong. THAT is very wrong – or it should be at least – and that the other tanks seem to be going the same way? That's sad. I have joked about them making an April Fools day patch where everything that isn't WAR is just removed because it's that stupid and it simultaneously drives me up the wall and makes me wonder why healers exist, hell, why DO healers exist right now? What do we do in 90% of duties?
I see a lot of "Give healers more dps buttons" but that doesn't fix the problem, it puts a plaster on it. If people wanna play dps they should play dps, not turn healers into dps. The only way this problem gets fixed is to make healers HEALERS, they have to create conditions where healing is needed. Am I gonna join this strike? Probably not, but I also don't know if I can bring myself to keep playing my prefered classes if the devs are just gonna make them increasingly pointless.
I mean Xeno did it with WAR, highly doubt any other tank could do it. Maybe PLD can do it they both have their own sustain
The game is too one dimensional, its core design makes healers redundant in many situations all the way down to its code, ts server ticks, everything. The game is horrendously designed. It took me a while to finally see that, but by god is this game bad. Except the story ofc.
Healers are fine, the jobs got better but dungeons didnt improve. Unproportional growth. Honestly quickest solution is to just crank up the damage a bit, so that healers need to use some more ogcds. If you want to play your role to the fullest extent then just go into savages and ultimates. The msq stuff is meant to be cleared by the most skillless individuals walking around eorzea. And quite frankly i often see healers and tanks fail miserably, even if it is meant to be braindead or easy
I've been a healer main since ARR and have gone through the changes each expansion brought. Stance dancing was definitely fun especially in Heavensward and the Stormblood kit was probably peak overall, but even though they took away my DoTs at least they've slowly given me more damage options. WHM has Glare/Holy III, Dia, Assize, Glare IV, and Afflatus Misery which is a little more exciting than 3 DoTs, Stone and Assize.
Probably an unpopular opinion but I'm okay with where things are now. Would I take more damage options? Absolutely. Do I need them? Nah. Healers already do more work than most people during downtime phases in Ultimates so I always felt the tradeoff of being adaptable and healing in general is not having to think too much about a rotation.
I think we just need to more middling group content, maybe harder optional dungeons or something similar, so there is a slight challenge, cause healing in dungeons right now makes me fall asleep.
The role that was assigned to me when i was born was healer, but nowdays i identify as a dps.
Healer main here (AST), Blade and Soul is a game where every class can DPS, Tank and Heal themselfs. FFXIV chose the trinity but Healers must dps, tanks have heals… whoever chose a healer is because the person likes to heal, buff, support the team and whoever choses to tank likes to feel strong, to go in front, pull mobs attention, keep boss away from everyone, eat all dmg. whoever makes a dps likes to do kill, to do damage, feel that is hurting the mobs and bosses. right now the only role that fits its purpose and feelings is the dps.
Healers that wants more dps kit: Change to DPS
Tanks that wants more healing kits: Change to Healer
Healers asking for more damage buttons instead of asking for more pressure from fights to heal is the dumbest shit ever.
Sorry. The person who posted it on the forum is homophobic and transphobic so no. I'm staying the fuck away from the 'healers strike' and instead going to have instant queue pops.
I quit healing when sch got reworked
Healing is unnecessary if you're players don't mess up. We are support, but damage is the only thing that is always necessary. I don't think there's anything wrong with that simple fact. But I do think anything that can make DPS as a healer more interesting is probably a good thing. I don't want stances, but maybe I could summon Eos's goth sister and she could just deal damage instead? That would be interesting.
We had a discussion on our channel recently where we talked about this. However our take way very different. We feel that healers should NOT have damage rotations, but instead, content should require healers to be healing most of the time. The "Role Fantasy" is really bad in FFXIV, and we want nothing more than for it to be fixed!
I think a lot of your points are spot on, but I'm still confused why everyone turns to DPS as the solution. Why are we not arguing for more healing? Why are we not demanding it? We know the devs hear us, at the very least. It is really sad to see healers expecting or even asking to become DPS. We should be fighting to *heal*. I begin to worry I'm in the minority and the devs, who do watch and listen, are going to essentially turn healers into green DPS. FFXIV is the first MMO i played where the healer hardly heals and isnt super necessary. It just baffles me that the solution isn't to demand that healers become healers; instead we keep pushing that they become DPS and it's so painful to watch.
As I have tried to communicate briefly on the western Reddit, Japanese players and servers are not oblivious to the critique and understand the perspectives shared as many players have communicated it on servers and otherwise. We're all aware of how the game has changed over the years and there are plenty of disagreements over the handling of challenge vs accessibility.
I have long found it insulting, that some claim the Japanese community have a universal voice. We certainly do not. Many simply cannot communicate as such in English.
The team have become weighed down in world events and changing feedback. Much in the same way. The healers need some attention. This you can tell without hyperbole, just by noting that in the thousands of MMORPGs that have dealt with healing – none have been reduced to such. Having a challenging ultimate is nice but not at the cost of a totally dead experience outside of it. It's simply not respectful to those who enjoy the class / job role, in whatever capacity. It renders the healer experience almost void. Which isn't what any of them were promised and that they don't accept it, is fair enough.
It's also difficult to accept that some are so selfish, that they would rather drive that community of healers from game – than listen to their voices and treat them as equally valid members of the community. After all, they expect to be heard themselves.
To that end, if you truly care about the game as a collective whole – and it's longevity – support the Healers in their attempt to be 'heard'. It's not much to ask and the company can easily address it with an acknowledgment that would do much for the good will and faith of the player base internationally.
Nobody in good faith can call the healer experience at present rewarding in most circumstances and I do think a compromise can be found between accessible and braindead. Pounding a single button or two ad nauseum whilst watching netflix or whatever you all do – isn't a game. It's not even 'stress free'.
It's insulting.
Some feedback for them, is the very least they deserve.
This video wasn't really that good.
TOP being cleared with Clemency and Vercure spam says just as much, if not more, about the DPS check than the lack of healing requirement tbh. And honestly the difficulty of casual content hasn't been the same since Orbonne Monastery. It was delightfully difficult on release but now it's so brain-dead. As much as well love them I feel like it's time for the Devs to man up and expect more from the players.
Make some fun content for dungeons.
The job quest was interesting, that you really need to heal, instead of dpsing.
-Can have whole party Dot nonstop with some random doom casted on random players.
-Or boss that disable self healing on tank, and keep damaging the tank so hard that it ran out of mits and need gcd healing nonstop, and brute force fight with the boss.
-Or zombiefication use like one of the FFX boss. where the healer now is the main dps with heal. and dps got 50% damage reduction or something. and switch around once in a while.
-Maybe something in combination that the boss give you some status that if you got healed while afflicted with it, it damage you instead. so you need to be esuna-ed first. then healed.
One of the earlier dungeon with the mid boss cast doom was fun. or delubrum just sneak 1 doom to the tank.
strike this BUTTS
Everyone mocks movements like this as if they are "impossible". They said it about the Anti Slavery movement. They said it about the Indian independence movement. They said it about the American and French revolutions. Those in power and in control want people to believe that strikes and movements like this don't work, because it's easy to pit people against one another and control them. They want this to happen and for you to believe that there is no hope. There needs to be blood and pain and frustration. That's how it works. It is never easy to make change happen. It is always worth it. These people will be mocked and laughed at until the healers get far, far better content to heal in and kits to work with. If you don't want them to be stressed with healing, give them better dps kits. If you don't want them to dps so much, make content demand their robust healing kits. They wouldn't complain that their dps kit sucks if they had to creatively solve things with their heals.
There's far too many tank and dps mitigations and heals alongside the huge bloat of healer tools for the content we have. You should not have addle and reprisal and feint and every tank aoe mit known to man up for every raidwide. It's absurd. There's so many answers to content that you never are hurting or wanting for mits and heals. I've cleared every single ultimate and put it on farm on both tank and DPS. I've SEEN these fights on release at their spiciest. I've Week 1'd savage. I promise you… healing was never an issue, there was never a dearth of tools or solutions. It was always a mechanics failure until people got familiar with the content, then it was easy af. Just a dps check or mechanic check. NEVER a heal check.
All these people laughing and mocking these people who ACTUALLY CARE about the healer role…the victory for them will be sweet as wine, should they prevail.
I am reminded of a quote for Teddy Roosevelt: “Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.”
Cant WAIT for AST to change in 8.0 again.
The ultimate thing is stupid… it you can clear it without a healer go ahead and do it. Just cuz an elitist did it, does not mean everyone can do it
And for healers in dungeon, we've always been doing them without healers since storm blood, its just faster, but you cant do with randoms or on duty finder. Not everyone is an expert
"Just wait until Shadowbringers, it will reset things!" … "Just wait until Endwalker, it's laying a foundation for things!" … "Just wait for Dawntrail, things will get harder!" … "Just wait until Duskpath (made up the next expac name lol)!" … do you see how absolutely absurd this is? What if I was told that I should wait 2 years after Elden Ring's release for "it to get good"? Josh Strife Hayes says it best: WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO WAIT OVER 100 HOURS OR MORE FOR SOMETHING TO BE GOOD IT SHOULD BE GOOD IMMEDIATELY. Healers should not have to WAIT 2 YEARS for something better.
You know what? They've waited LONG ENOUGH. They've waited MORE. They've waited since the end of STORMBLOOD and have been IGNORED. TOP is literally clearable without healers…in the fight that REQUIRES 2 healer LBs at the end (apparently not lul). That should NOT BE POSSIBLE when Yoshi P says "just play ultimate if you want to heal". NO. I SHOULD BE ABLE TO HEAL IN ALL CONTENT AND BE ENGAGED NOT JUST 5 PERCENT OF THE GAME'S CONTENT. IMAGINE TELLING SOMEONE THAT THEY ONLY GET TO ENJOY 10 PERCENT OF A GAME'S CONTENT. DPS classes get to enjoy THEIR FULL KIT in ALL content. Tanks, to a lesser degree, but mostly. B.S.
Dark Knights are one of the most popular Tanks you see in qeue, and we still absolutely need Healers. Xeno's run was with a WAR I think? So it's an outlier than the standard.
Quicker ques for me when healing I guess. Lol 🤷♀️
Personally I think it would be good if the dungeon have story difficulty and expert difficulty. For example if there is a person that is new it will default to story difficulty and if there are no person that is new to the dungeon it will be expert difficulty … but hey what do I know 😅
I think another big problem is that failed mechanics either outright kill dps or it drops them in 2, 3 if they’re lucky. given how rapid some mechanics are, this doesn’t really give healers a fair chance to save their party members. on the other hand if you do all the mechanics correctly, you practically take zero damage outside of very predictable raid wides. as a tank I don’t know whether to use my party healing because it makes me look like I know what I’m doing as a tank or it makes my healers job that much more insufferable. I don’t think the proper response is to increase their dps kit because there is already a subset of players that don’t want to heal even when it is needed
Meh, I like high end game play but all the extra stuff kinda ruins the games play experience for me because of people. When we get down to it, it’s just who can mass produce content to show how effective a job can be – but are we really playing or just sort of a loaf copying someone else’s build that they’ve probably spent hours of time on to ensure our own success? Are we actually playing the game for fun anymore or playing it in the hopes of optimization and then expecting devs to change what once could have been fun but is now just an optimized loot grind game? I hear you, coming from an embarrassing Elitist Jerks on WoW years ago, but idk is this game the same as WoW or Dark Souls, Call of Duty? No, it’s FFXIV so instead of min maxing as the predominant focus, maybe learn to enjoy playing games again because they’re games and not an esports competition. If you want to participate in higher end content, great! But it should be for the joy of the game and not because you parsed better than the scrub noob who didn’t know better. Game’s been based on accepting people regardless of player level or skill, it’s more an interactive novel/book than advanced gameplay mechanics that require you to run anything in the background. As a PlayStation player without mod options, I’m happy and totally content even if a DPS is below a healer. If we get the boss down then we do, if it becomes an issue let that be it’s time and place but promoting watching other peoples abilities outside of something like ultimates is extremely toxic. You’re assuming every player wants to clear the highest content possible. An example, I main AST/DNC/NIN/PAL – I played my 90 BLM because I’m bored and getting badgered about someone saying to use this or that to max my abilities output like yo this isn’t even my mains or secondary mains I’m just playing because I’m bored – why was it more important to maximize someone else’s rotation for your gain? It’s annoying. I am confident in my jobs I regularly play but having fun is now off the table – nah I can’t stand for that and it’s probably that you’re using ACT and see the numbers or whatnot. It still smells of I’m better because I hit more than you and how dare you join my lobby not knowing proper rotation I must teach you. It’s okay to just play and have fun, you don’t need maximized DPS as long as someone is having a good time so take that for what it is, sorry it’s a long post but it really bothered me.
As a main healer I love to play all 4 of them and love to do damage, but it would be nice if I had to heal more then what is right now. I don't need to heal 100% if the time but right now I maybe heal like 1-5% depends on how confident is the party in dodging. I play Astro as my main, like all healers I now overhealing is not a wanted thing, so I try to let my group drop but everytime I got an pld or rdm even an smn they will use their healing by 90% health, that is when I ask myself why do others then Healer got healing? Like when my job is not to heal because they can do it, then why do I don't get more damage spells and potency. If the Tank is a War I feel like a wasted spot, like every dps would be better then my green class because the damage will be higher, yes a healer will do good damage too but compared to the red ones with a Warrior 3 dps will do more then every healer(if you now your job well). I know Warrior only can heal himself with 56 or so but I wish at this point to just switch my role inside the dungeon. I like Warrior but I really don't know if a non healer class should be able to survive Solo. Everytime I got an Drk or Gunny I am the happiest person. I love ffxiv and their system but imo the Term of healer, at least in normal content, is losing its purpose maybe I am wrong but it feels for me like that. Tbh I rarely use spells like Macrocosmos because there is no healing needed and the Potency is so low for the cd of 180 like come on yes the Astro is a support class but 250 potency Fall Malefic is dealing the same damage at least I weave it. But those are just my thoughts, everyone as they wish 😁
Nah cole it's not gonna affect DT judging by the sentiments of the reddit main and discussion sub.
So let me get this straight lmfao now yall got what yall wanted 🤣 making the game easy ect but yall don't like that and wanna revert that LMFAO. Yall want the dots and busy hustle they used to have smh. Nah honestly I'm tired of the crying ppl in this game stay with your easy shit you asked for it and ruined 2 classes for me crying like yall do so I hope healers never change at all 😮. Yall litetally keep forcing there hands for your own sake and then end up hating it
Healer strike ain't gonna be that big, nothings wrong with healer.
End game raiders forget the majority of people that play ff14 don't do end game. If they added more dps the complaint would be "but we're healers" – This is literally why Ff14 stopped releasing job changes early, cause once people play their jobs in DT it's always "oh its fine nvm" =.=
Thanks for calling it out!
I think people tend to forget that the majority of the players are casuals and suck on combat. People keep pushing for harder and harder content and rotation. I already find many jobs too complex and with way too many buttons to play, specially on a controller. I know that most people here on your community are hardcore Good players, just don't try to ruin the fun of others, so you may have more fun. Ask for more additional hard content instead of making the regular content harder, thanks.
15:35 On the topic of the new damage buttons- I think it's also to bring healers up to par with the new exploratory content coming in. Remember profane whm in bozja? If we get something similar to profane in the new one…ooo, imagine dem critties.
