FFXIV has a MAJOR Gearing Problem! [FFXIV 6.25]

Japanese players are raising their concerns now too, while the FFXIV Gearing system is AMAZING and I love our devs, there are some major faults with it that I’m seeing more people speak on.

So let’s talk about it and discuss what others are saying too. If you’re interested in the other gearing video here’s the link

  1. This is a problem that has always existed simply because of the gear gate system. This goes for both Tome purchased gear and raid acquired gear, but everyone seems to think people are always talking about people wanting to play the game more, spend more time grinding blah blah blah. They aren't looking at the fact that those who don't get the gear instead only get a book that you need 1 of multiple to get and it lowers the chance for a chest to spawn with anyone else you raid with until restrictions are lifted. Honestly, the books should be limited to only able to attain one a week without it hindering the ability for number of chest so you can still get the chance at gear as well. Mainly for the reasons listed in this video…the time it takes to gear everyone up can be annoying.

  2. In the last 2 weeks clearing P5S to P8S in PF, I won exactly 0 item/coffer rolling on everything, meaning I have lost 32 rolls in 2 weeks. Meanwhile in my P8S, the same person won the weapon and body coffer. Amazing and fun!

  3. I don't disagree with the points made in this video, but listening to this makes me feel bad for people in impersonal statics. I don't think I'd even have fun being in a group where people get shuffled around/in/out of the group based on roles they can flex and gear for said roles. Especially if you're not hardcore.

  4. kind of funny that FFXIV was always praised for one character being able to "play every job", i guess thats only really true in endgame if you have deep enough pockets to go whale on the market board for whatever crafted pieces you need.

its also pretty annoying IMO that in the hardcore savage content where one would assume in return for skill and effort you rightfully should get a guaranteed reward, the game still forces you into that need/greed/pass mechanic when it comes to loot coffers and that leads into the 8-weeks to BiS nonsense. It's kind of incredulous that in savage PF you could spend the time on a fight and still get nothing because someone rolled a higher number than you. For casual content that is easily repeatable its also annoying albeit less of an issue but savage takes real time and effort and skill and to potentially get nothing in return other than the guaranteed pity-page drop is not fun.

  5. I agree the gearing issue is a problem — clear each week available on one of the different classes of job? heal, dps, tank, possibly even by class of dps so 3 addition clears … 6 peices of gear a week? depending on how you flex….

  6. The gear progression system has been a corporate decision for a very long time. It's made to pad out the content, so players are subbed to the game for the duration of the raid tier. Which sucks so much because you're stuck to one role for most of the time and now we're having a healer shortage because healing this tier is especially hard on PF.

  7. I feel like it isn't reasonable to play savage tier content in PF and expect as much progression as a static. If it falls apart or you have other life commitments… tough, this isn't your season.

For healers specifically? I don't think there is a reasonable answer, you are almost always last on loot priority (which you kinda should be in a static). Just gotta get those DPS and tanks to time their mitigation, make enough noise and it can become a cultural thing, make a macro to tell people time stamps for when its needed and repeat after wipes. It'll be like pulling teeth and you wont make friends but they will get there.

  8. I feel really undertuned as a healer this tier… even with having bis from p5s-p7s
I dont know why. I started playing savage with endwalker and had no problems in p4s but this tier i feel really undertuned… i play sage.

  9. Savage Raids should be weekly limited to Colored Roles. That means you have chances to earn 3 books a week per savage raid and gear a tank, healer, and dps role as you win coffers with 6 chances to win a week per raid. Those coffers you win will also allow you to gear whichever class you like to your liking. I think this would be much more fun than just doing your weekly reclears and be done for the week limited to one role. It will also solve the healer problem because players will need to play healer for the raids to earn more gear that week.

  10. Making whatever the current highest tomestone function like old conquest / valor in wow would mostly fix this. Basically every week the season maximum of tomes would increase by 450, and you could always catch up to current max tomes if you missed some. If you decide to swap to healer in week 5/6/7, you could grind out those tomes you stopped collecting because they weren't useful to your main role, and buy up 620s to heal with.

I guess the other option would be to let you clear each week on a different role and be eligible for loot that is locked to the role you cleared with, so that you couldn't just open all your coffers on dps and get full bis in a single week.

I think if healing were more fun you'd see more healers. The damage spells are boring, AST is needlessly bloated. There aren't very many dopamine moments as a healer.

  11. I've always found that gearing was a issue in FFXIV. The issue is even more apparent when you're a pug warrior looking to flex and learn any role for every floor to truly have a great experience with each savage tier. I can only hope I get lucky enough next week to be able to gear my healer(s) to get through p8s.

  12. So, here's the simple truth. Grinding ilvl is essentially how you progress in this game. In older MMOs, gearing was much different, you could get a piece of gear and it would be relevant for literally years. Depending on the MMO, they did different things to make the players stay engaged long term. For example, in FFXI, the relic weapon typically took years to grind out, but it was also BiS for most for 8+ years. However, the modern MMO realized that an EASY solution to this issue is to basically put the players on a perpetual gear treadmill. Players might be able to reach BiS after a few weeks/months of savage… But wait… what this? Your shiny BiS gear is now literally trash, a new expansion came out or a new savage tier came out (you could glam it, but it's not worth the glam clout anymore because it's easier to get too).

This "keeping the players engaged" thingy is important because if the players are engaged in the game, they're also subscribed to the game. Yeah, it takes months to gear up in savage due to rng and takes months of tomestone grinding too because the tomestone weekly cap is low… That also means that players will hopefully stay subscribed for at least a few months.

  13. I personally dont see the RNG drop ever being touched due to financial reasons and player engagement buuuut the tomecap per week definitly should be raised. Im a pf warrior myself and sometimes even flex roles for some fun including healer. Raising the tome cap wouldnt completely destroy the gearing process or make it too much shorter but at least u could start adding some extra ILVL to your off jobs faster instead of going full bis on many roles. Yes content is doable with crafted gear sure but the tome gear (the 620 NOT the augmented 630) should serve as a bridge to close the gap between some more experienced players and the casuals.

Then again there are many other issues imo why pf is dying a lot. Parser healers, melee or casters not using feint/addle and the list goes on. Its an extremely fun tier mechanically imo but the issue is not exactly JUST gear. I think bridging the skill gap a bit faster with 620 tome gear could be potentially helpfull and make flexing more viable a bit although i doubt it would fix the current healer drought or pf issues.

  14. You can clear everything without pentameldes from day 1 of release. Aside from this current tier which needed nerfs due to changing Savage release date. This is just asking SE to change the formula that has worked for years just to accomadate being subpar and not knowing your job lol 😆

  15. There is a problem in the current tier but why there is a healer shortage has nothing to do with lacking gear. As you saw from that post, any healer who isn't going full try hard is looked down upon. That isn't a gear issue, that is a raid community issue. Other players see healers as less then them if not going full try hard. Nevermind that pentameld doesn't make up for the incompetence of the raid team. The issue is that there is far too much pressure on healers and everyone else isn't mitigating attacks. Healer mains tell this through posts and videos and they are being ignored.

  16. Obviously, it differs DC to DC, but mine has plenty of reclear groups on pf with 610 for p5s.

Agree with everything else though. And you didn't even cover the problem of same set used for multiple jobs needing different melds. That drives me nuts

  17. I don't get the comments calling you elitist. The current gearing system is ACTUALLY what's elitist. Statics are fine, people who struggle to get friends to show up every week and has to dive into PF suffer cause there's no guarantee anyone in your group will get the gear… and who in their right mind in PF is going to go into a loot master group and pass up their chance on gear for the week?

  18. Tome gear kind of bums me out, I'm mainly in for glams but try to have good non savage gear to clear content faster (glam hunting pain of multi runs) and it's a slog, I'm already capped on a Tuesday from a few S ranks and raids so have the joy of the red text in my chat for the rest of the week knowing I just can't earn the gear I want and then the moment where say a maiming body is calling to me for a new glam but I can't justify 2 weeks of tomes when my main is still lacking gear.

  19. My main is WHM. I'm having the hardest time getting my healer toons geared. My ranged DPS? Already done and savage rated. Can't manage to get what I need to get the one piece that will get my healers there.

  20. Being in a semi-casual static that does savages only 2-3 hours a week if we’re lucky makes it rough too. I have BLM at 615 and three other jobs (NIN, DRK, SCH) at 610 with Barb Ex weapons. It’s amazing how fast each of those roles can get crossed off in PF. Already have a DRK or NIN, have a SMN and 2 melee (or don’t want a BLM taking flex dps), healer IL too low + not much healing experience.

  21. The harsh reality is we have to pay a monthly subscription fee, so they give us all sorts of timegates and stretch out our ability to buy relevant gear because they need to keep us around to pay that monthly subscription.

As for myself, I just don't bother to gear myself up most of the time. For my level 90 jobs, I'll get the best gear I'm willing to spend the time to get (so either the gear drops from the Pandamonium raid or from tomestones), and even then, because because raid gear is so unreliable, I'll usually just level up one job with it, then focus on tomestone gear whenever I feel like it. But I'm also trying to level up my jobs, and through roulettes and other things, you spend so little time on each level (level roulette, alliance raid roulette, and MSQ roulette often lets you gain a level, or sometimes two at the lower levels) that I just don't bother to buy or craft new gear every time I level up. I just craft or buy gear at the level X4 (e.g. 44, 54, 64, etc.) or at the X0 (e.g. 50, 60, 70), because those are the times you usually get a duty fight during your job quests. It's just not worth the time or resources to keep gearing myself up every time I gain a level, especially since you get practically no gil (compared to how much it costs to buy it) for selling it off.

  22. Tomestones. It’s definitely the tome stone gear that’s the problem. Gearing up two roles takes a long time.

Healers also have this weird problem where the crafted ring ends up being BIS which is weird. We want our extra HP!

And the ilevel upgrade for the raid Hat nobody wanted with its piety is not helpful at all.

  23. They need to rework it. My ideal change would be cool looking "relic" armor (think eureka armor) that would be BiS and that's what you would grind for each tier. Also make it so the relic set can only be obtained through synced Savage clears. This would keep every raid tier relevant to a degree, and definitely longer than they are now.

Then they could simply remove the limits on the tomestone and raid chests after the first week or two (to keep world's first race competitive). Since all of that gear would be step up gear anyways, it wouldn't matter if you could grind or farm for them.

As I said though, this would be ideal to me, but at the very least to make things better they should remove the tomestone cap after 1-2 weeks. This would be nothing but a benefit to everybody.

  24. I think people are complaining too much. When SE applies these suggestions they be like "oh game is too easy now, we get so much gear". Heard this shit as well with the 1 week savage delay. Make up your damn minds lmao.

  25. Honestly, just make tome gear EASY to get…unrestrict tomes and if someone wants to get max ilvl by farming msq roulette, let them. It won't impact population of people still wanting to raid as the gear oftentimes has more desirable stats, that final weapon is another 5ilvl up- , AND not to mention dyable glam.
