Overall my excitement for the graphics update is through the roof. Only thing I hope they'll be careful with is not making the new eye textures too dark since it's hard enough as it is to make characters have any sort of vibrant colored eyes, also people will probably be upset if their character has noticeable darker looking eyes after the update. I think that's where the Au Ra eyes criticism comes too mostly, the new limbal ring is not striking enough in the example. Hopefully we can still make some crazy looking fantasy eyes for Au Ra after the update.
Really looking forward to what they show in the Japan fanfest as well as some more high resolution example images of all this stuff. The materials for gear especially is making my mouth water π

I was waiting for literally anyone to make a video about this. I watched it live and it was really interesting and probably had the best announcements from this fanfest but it seemed like for some reason no one on youtube actually cares about this
While we might not zoom in on our characters manually, the game does do it a lot in cutscenes both for our own characters and NPCs, so all of these changes will be very noticable
For global illumination from whqt they showed in the presentation I believe they are probably mainly doing it by reusing the reflection probes as GI probes (basically local HDRis) for their PBR materials. I doubt they'll add anything real time RT to the game
The one other video/podcast where they actually talked about the eye ring on Au Ra, they all just kinda laughed at those who want the similar effect on the newer models. Yes, the current one doesn't look good and the new one looks more natural, but people made their characters with that glowing ring in mindβsome 8 years ago when Heavensward came out. Can you imagine having that defining trait on your character you chose for that long and it's just gone? They just need to make it stand out and glow and it'll probably be good. They already said it was made by magic anyways, so why can't it glow?
Graphical updates are amazing but I am hoping we will have more detailed mocap for our cutscenes. This will be a hot take but in my personal opinion, v1.0 had better animation. Only if we had something similar.

I have to disagree characters don't look all tht great π look the same just new lining and glow.. But if u like it π for u combat in the game still needs to change its the biggest problem then character lΓ΄oks etc
Going against race logic, I don't use the limbal rings on my Au'ra because rn they look so ugly… so thank god they are remaking them QwQ

New graphic look insane. Now…can we have content in the next dlc? If you are not doing savage content, there is no reason to pay a sub. I will skip next xpac. I will wait for the second next one to roll in. Then i will have enough content to play…
i chose bright purple glowy limbal rings, but nothing about them "floating" on top of the eyeball looks particularly good. It's jarring, even. I'm happy for the upcoming changes, although preserving the glow is a non-negotiable imo.
