You’re not going to undraw on AST because you need to hand out the damage buff.
You will NEVER undraw a card as an Astrologian. Giving out a 6% buff to a DPS is always better than getting that 5% buff for yourself as a healer. (well… at least your dps SHOULD be doing more dps than you…)
I have a couple thoughts about astro. First regarding their new RNG mechanic Astrodyne, would it not be better to front load the more dps beneficial buffs first. Right now, it goes MP Regen, Reduce Cast Time/Recast Time, and then +5% dps/heals. So everyone will want to get three seals for maximum throughput, meaning it will feel quite bad if you cant get there (with only one redraw per draw it seems like that is more likely than now, but I cant say for sure). But if you reverse the order (+5%, Reduce (Re)Cast Time, MP Regen), then it frontloads the buffs so you're more likely to get what you want. You'd still want to try for three seals because it nets you more good things, but you're definitely going to get the more important parts (at least from my perspective). Maximizing the highs, minimizing the lows, though perhaps that goes too far.
Second, I wish undraw either reset/reduce Draw cooldown (with its own 1 min-ish cooldown), or was replaced by a toss the card at the enemy to do damage (similar to the new lord Card). The problem with that second one, is it would have to do a considerable amount to be competitive with the actually playing the card, which has its own issues. Undraw just needs to do something actually meaningful to gameplay or it should just be removed entirely.
There are macros that I use for AST on controller that have been a godsent for me this past expansion, even during the original Sleeve Draw design
Astro is the class that requires the most button presses in the shortest amount of time. Cards require quick-targeting an ally, applying buff, and reaquired the enemy within the weave window. Shield Astro didn't feel good at all, while regen felt really powerful. While Whm does chunky heals, Astro stacks multiple instances of regen, and produces delayed heals.
Sage has a lot of similar tools to Sch. Eukrasian Prognosis is actually weaker than Succor, but produces the same amount of shield. A zoe'd Eukrasian Prognosis though can produce very chunky shields though. Although if it beats out Crit Adlo Spread is up for debate.
And in general, the 1.5 dps cast time is something people are really underplaying. Sch was HUUUUUGE on spell weaving, but didn't have easy access to weaving without sacrificing dps. Now, Sch got a MAJOR dps buff just from that. And the counterargument was, "you could ruin2 Energy drain." Well, now you can Broil energy drain for a massive dps gain.
They got rid of sleeve draw and kept undraw? Wtf?
I don't see Brian's problem with new Astro and controller.
Today, we have: (my setup in parentheses)
– Draw (R2-Circle)
– Redraw (R2-Cross)
– Play (R2-Square)
– Sleevedraw (Double-R2-Circle)
– Crown Play aka Minor Arcana (Double-R2-Square)
– Divination as the use-seals skill (Double-R2-Cross)
– (Undraw, unused)
In the future, we'll have:
– Draw
– Redraw
– Play
– Crown Draw aka Minor Arcana
– Crown Play
– Astrodyne as the use-seals skill
– (Undraw, unused)
Divination becomes a flat buff, completely unrelated to cards. Move it to a suitable place, away from the card handling buttons.
Sleevedraw was a special case of Draw, now it's gone. Replace it with the new special case of Draw, Draw Crown. Astrodyne is the new use-seals skill and will go to the spot where the previous use-seals skill (Divination) was. Minor Arcana is a bit special, it used to be Crown Play and becomes Crown Draw. The naming is a bit confusing, but the functions are clear.
Not much of a difference – or did I miss something?
Holy II is already in the game and used by an enemy, i guess they needed it to do something else.
