FFXIV: Endwalker – Garlemald Zone Tour (Lore Video)

FFXIV Endwalker Media Tour: An in-depth tour of Garlemald and its lore!

—–All footage is in development and subject to change—–

In the wake of ruin, what can we learn from the ashes of Garlemald’s streets? The Garlean Empire drew heavily from our real world Roman Empire for inspiration, though the harnessing of ceruleum led to an industrial boom not unlike our modern-day use of oil. Brush up on your knowledge of the existing lore for this imperialistic nation, while looking ahead at what Endwalker may have in store for the Garleans and the world as a whole.

I’m so grateful to have been a part of the 2021 FFXIV: Endwalker Media Tour this year! A huge thanks to Square Enix for the invitation. I had an incredible time!

Be sure to check out my Media Tour playlist, which includes lore tours of Old Sharlayan & Thavnair, 10 in-depth looks at jobs in Endwalker, glamour endgame, and two dives into our new dungeon!

Endwalker releases November 23rd, 2021 with early access starting November 19th.

  1. I appreciate this video, Rook.

Not enough people pay attention to Zenos's story and background. That was good coverage Rook. It's also important to understand in story telling, there are 3 kinds of obstacles: Man vs. Self, Man vs. Man, and Man vs. Nature. Zenos as an antagonist falls into Nature, as he's a wild beast more than anything. He is a force of nature who has long stopped needing any reason to justify what he does. Such is suggested in the form of 2 of his original swords, the Storm and the Swell. He's associated with storms and floods. If you listen to a lot of his dialog, he's very often portrayed as far far more intelligent than most everyone else, but he chooses to proceed with little thought, often using predator metaphors. He's a complex character when you really look at him, but he minimizes that complexity, which is compounded by his numbness and need for connection.

Also, my secret speculation: I think the Dev team is holding on to it as a secret… but Yoshida has hinted at it, but no one is picking up on it… Zenos is likely going to join as a Trust around the middle of the story, and be a party member for a while. But… He's not gonna be a good guy. It's more like Ardyn in 15 helping you out where he does to accomplish his own goals where there is overlap.

  2. Criminally underrated content, Rook. I'm glad you went as we don't have Ethys' Lore Tours this time along. Such great quality work, I really appreciate the time and energy you must have put into this.
