  1. Sad Tornado Kick noises. 🙁 Was really banking on it being the Single Target version of Elixir Field, but I guess something had to be Phantom Rush's placeholder at lower levels. Still, adding a skill just to finger wag and tell us not to use it feels bad when there's an obvious deign solution (and potentially be a trap skill for new players), or at least the first solution that popped into my head when there was to be three combo outcomes. It's just another in the pile with Anatman and Six-Sided. (even if, yes, they technically have their uses)

This still fixes pretty much all of the reasons I avoided main'ing a Monk, but Tornado Kick was easily my favorite animation in their kit (especially next to elixir which looks kind of janky) and seeing it regulated to down-synced content specifically between 60 to 89 is… just sad. Not the end of the world or anything, but hurts a bit after being excited to see it on the GCD instead of OGCD where it's animation always clips.

Personally wish that Celestial should be the placeholder for Phantom, Thunder Kick should take Celestials place in the Beast Chakra, and should be the stronger Single Target counter to Elixir. Oh well. Also, Riddle of Wind should just line up with Brotherhood, and the lvl88 Brotherhood trait should allow your Auto-attacks to proc Chakra. Would make it more chakra intake more reliable to time, while making Brotherhood feel better in solo combat. Or, you know, just drop Riddle of Wind as it feels like bloat. lol

  2. It's disappointing that the AOE combo still only extends Twin Snakes rather than applying it outright. Granted pre-pull form shift into twin snakes before starting the AOE rotation during trash isn't a huge deal overall but it is still a minor annoyance nonetheless.

  3. I'm clearly in the minority here but I actually like Riddle of Wind, I like the randomness and the basically passive idea of it, Mnk already has a lot to do so having something to just click and let happen is quite nice. Antatman sucks, no one will ever click that. The timings and opener are horrible but whatever, I've always prefered Mnk's identity to be consistent damage rather than burst windowed. If every job has a similar burst window then I every job might as well be the same imo.

  4. Im conflicted. On one hand, I feel vindicated because I knew the same dev team that gave us “tackle mastery” was gonna eff up Monk again and everyone pretended I was doomsaying for no reason so that’s nice, but on the other hand, I just want my favorite job to stop having completely baffling design with 3 systems in it the run counter to each other.

Edit: I almost forgot we got howling fist and steel peak back, two universally loved skills and oh…you only get to use them during downsynced content. Half the “new skills” monk gets are upgraded animations for already existing abilities. Monk will probably feel the worst going from 80-90 out of all Melee DPS.

  5. It's some nice nostalgia to see steel peak and howling fist back, but I do wonder if for some players if this will cause some minor mistakes. Like if elixir field is still a circular attack while howling fist is a line, that could cause players to miss hitting some enemies if they're not thinking about how the skill changed after leveling up/getting level synced. Not aware of any other attack currently that when it gets upgraded also changes the shape of its hit window.

  6. Even when true strike and twin snake positionals being removed, watch me still try to hit the phantom positionals in Endwalker lol

Being playing MNK since 2.1, muscle memory is whack yo

  7. These monk changes just seem awkward to me. While all the other jobs are getting fine tuned/tweaked to make it so they align well and play well, SE is trying to figure out WTF to do with monk.

  8. You now get chakra at level 15.
Me : that's great! Wat about a ranged attack to pull single mobs in deep dungeon?
    Them :sorry no…..
Me :but literally every other job in the game has a ranged attack…..

  9. Riddle of wind lost it reduce weapon skill and ability effect so the only thing left is auto attack.

Rip the ability that crucial to the action available.

  10. Wait, so we can open our chakra as a PUGILIST? Holy *string of obscenities*!!!!

Yoshi-P, I know you want to make Pugilist and Monk stronger, but NOT THAT STRONG!

I would have preferred Meditation and Forbidden Chakra to be given at Level 30 after you obtain the job, not at Level 15 when you get Fists of Earth. I am so glad Cisi has gotten all his monk skills down now instead of later.

  11. I dont like the change with elexir field.
I liked the "kamehameha". And, when you need 3 times the same chakra art, than, you would never have elexire field. Because, you attack each time with a other stand attack.
    Or?

  13. I think you're kind of dismissing what is a considerably powerful skill. Riddle of Wind ups auto-attack speed like Hundred Fists (though weaker) in FFXI. The amount of DPS contributed by Auto-Attacks is underestimated as it's not as prominent in flying text like your active actions. For melee and physical ranged jobs… It's a respectable boost. It'd be about the equivalent of a 500 potency attack at least. 1 Auto is 100 potency. Assuming in that 15 seconds you're doing 5 hits (delay on MNK weapons is 2.56 seconds, so you're dropping to 1.28) that's at least another 5 or 6 hits. So maybe a 600 or even 700 potency attack. Plus each hit has a potential to be a crit, dh, or dhcrit. It's not as fancy as a bonus to attack or something, but it's really a big potency attack in disguise. Gotta change how you're thinking about it.
