  1. Way back Machine? 🤔 I just found out about something new! 😁 This is a very interesting video. I’ve lost count of all the changes over the last (nearly) 10 years for which of the jobs. 😅 However, not so much for DRG. But then I only really started playing it 4 years ago. 😋 Looking forward to seeing the videos for WHM, and other casters. 😁 Thank you MrHappy! 👍❤️

  2. Yeah I remember DRG 1.XX. blood for blood and that slow ass jump or positional. I died so many times I switched class till HW after a few months. That and having to put in stat points manually.

  3. No, Surecast was not only for a specific spell cast back in Stormblood, that was a ARR/HW thing–as well, Stormblood is what introduced SB working on forced knockbacks/draws like it does now.

  4. Being a DRG main for a long time I absolutely loved it back in HW. And yes, I miss Keen Flurry and Ring of Thorns badly (still on one of my hotbars). Also miss Phlebotomize honestly, and Leg Sweep being DMG dealing. I miss Mercy Stroke a lot too and how it felt like it sped up the battle a bit more in the end. I just loved the general animations flowing well despite having a generally longer GCD compared to others DPS. All the oGCDs felt fitting and the animations just… worked for me, flowed so well. Yes, I'll say I just loved the job a bit more back then, it felt a bit more busy bit in a good way. Loved how I was balancing my Blood of the Dragon timer with my Geirskoguls. I used it so often I didn't even need to check my timer anymore. I knew when I could use it two times in a row and when I had to wait from muscle memory alone. And the reacting to wether we got Fang and Claw or Wheeling Thrust was actually fun for me. As a good DPS I was ALWAYS in what I like to call the 'asscheek corner', just one step away from either being in the flank or rear by being at the very edge of a bumcheek. xD

Sorry for the wall of text, it's just that for some reason I loved combat back in HW a lot more on a lot of classes (also looking at you DRK!). I also loved how a lot of classes had reactionary skills, like PLD's and DRK's parry/block reaction skills that were oGCD. Honestly I'm just a bit bummed out how with every expansion they take away some skills, bake them into existing ones, and get one or two new skills as you lv up. How they streamline combat to be more straightforward and take away much of the skillceiling through little things like this. It somehow just makes combat more and more stale and the lower lv content extremely dull. Having like 5 skills in Sastasha is just… urgh… At least back in ARR/HW all the cross-skills would still be active regardless of lv! I get why they reworked combat and continue to do so every expansion, I just don't agree with it. My fun in combat in this game took a big hit over the years. Seriously, I didn't mind doing old content half as much as when I was still able to play this game at an exciting pace when combat is a bit more involved. I'm hoping the 7.0 rework will be nice, because I'm kinda bummed how DRG can't burst at the start of a boss battle these days, for having to gather charges of Dragon eyes and gaze.

  5. DRG was my least favorite job throughout most of the game's life. It wasn't until Shb that I actually had fun playing it. And then they added Reaper which I like way more, so I still don't really play it. I'm looking forward to the rework, but I honestly just hope the people that already really like the job don't get screwed over. I know the feeling of having a job you loved taken away from you and it sucks.

  6. I remember when i was new to 14, which was end of HW into start of SB, as a tank, Goad was a godsent, especially in SB when RDM got added and they could spam aoe at low mana cost, was near impossible to keep enmity as a tank, cause you'd eventually run out of TP doing aoe and attempting to keep the mobs focused on you. This is where Goad came in handy, everytime a melee gave me Goad in mob pulls, i was so happy, made it so much easier

  7. That is correct and incorrect for Dragonsong. Because of the fights. You didn't use the 4th combo. That was a design fail, you did more damage keeping the 3 part combo.

  8. If you want a great example of why DRGs died so much take a look at the original 2.0 job actions trailer. Look at how long the jump animations were! Something that people also forget is that the server tickrate used to be way worse, with your position only being updated every 0.3 seconds. So imagine an AoE under your feet but you can't move because you're already jumping, then you barely get out but you die anyways since you were still in it on the server side. And you probably were taking increased damage from Blood for Blood, and you couldn't sprint or you wouldn't be able to attack. Just so much stacked against the job haha

  9. This is a fun series you're working on. Since I started in 5.3 I never saw or really understood a lot of this, but this series is really great to learn about how it used to be. Keep it up!
