  1. @3:00 People always unfairly malign Islands and Warfronts from BFA too, I feel. I've said it before and I'll say it again: BFA was Legion with more content.
Burnout and system bloat from Legion got more visibly worse in BFA because it wasn't the first time, like Legion. Chore lists, tying everything to gating player power, etc ruin good content. Abandoning content also ruins good content. And I quit during BFA when I saw the first big SHL info dump because I saw the words "weekly cache" and knew it was Legion 3.0 with all of Legion's flaws.

  2. I just have the feeling that if ff14 has a psychologist on staff, they do more than just use them to tailor mechanics for retention. They ask what would be good for the mental health of our players? 😆 How about a calm relaxed Island Sanctuary. 👍

  3. So something I think that needs to be said is that XIV has a ton of cool content that doesn't always get frequent updates. Chocobo racing is in the game but hasn't gotten touched in almost three years, now. Blue mages he get their level cap boosted infrequently.

They'll keep updating this I'm sure but it may not be every patch, it and it will probably slow down eventually.

  4. Me at FFXIV: "Wow that sounds like a lot of fun, something to relax to."

Blizzard: "Pft… bunch of assholes. They'll come back after we release our new 6 month mount deal… and remove all the emote except wave and clap. And who doesn't like fruit baskets?! WHY AREN'T THEY COMING BACK?!?!?!?!"

  5. It's stuff like this that continues to motivate me to break through the barrier I keep hitting against with FFXIV. This actually sounds like content that will actually be worked on and filled out rather than haphazardly thrown together and then discarded after a few months if at that. Sadly, the game hasn't quite gripped me yet and I'm not sure if it is because I'm trying too hard to play it like WoW or if this world just isn't that interesting to me (which I refuse to make a judgement on until I at least get to level 30 on any character and actually see a good chunk of the story first).

  6. This feature worries me a bit. I'm having flashbacks to garrisons in WoD when players would just sit in their own instances and cities were completely empty. I hope this doesn't happen with FF

  7. This without a doubt is a response to a growing desire for solo or more accessible housing, as it's nigh-impossible for non-FC leaders to have anything more than a single small FC room or apartment because housing is a limited resource in FF compared to lots of games right now, with the way that housing is its own zone with limited instanced neighborhoods.
Black Desert has instanced housing (a metric shitton of instanced houses that can be multi-purpose at that, it blew my fucking mind), Genshin just introduced it, so I'm glad even if it's not a regular housing situation, FF is getting SOME sort of homey instance to it that doesn't make you worry about having millions and millions of gil and essentially waiting around in a randomly timed lottery.

  8. Even after how popular the farm in pandaria was it astounds me how little mmo devs look at the enduring popularity of farming/life sim stuff like Harvest Moon, Rune Factory and Stardew and think that doesn't transplant into mmos. Y'know. The persistent worlds where people farm shit and have housing.

  9. Here’s how you fix gamings future. Create a company called freedom of play. This gaming company will offer dlcs free and actually take time in release while creating a friendly environment between creators and gamers. Live by 1 rule which is no micro transactions ever. How to assure a profit for investors will be showing them the numbers of players are obviously going to promote the game which leads to ad revenue out the butt. Listen intensely to the public and triple check if players want these patches. This company will be the next #1 gaming company in the near future -2021

  10. i wanted to try out the games farming but resigned myself to never being able to because i would never have a house; if the island can have farm/garden plots i would try it.

  11. Bellular so pissed with Blizzard just being dumb about content: "FUCK ME SIDEWAYS"
I'm intrigued about the content but I'll temper my expectations as usual. The devs usually start small then build from there.

  12. I really enjoy the housing features in games not because I am super gung ho about making a home or decorating or anything like that but because it attracts other players that are into those things that you need a wealth of varied and different players in your game help it feel alive.

That said I think a lot more people might get involved in the whole player housing thing if there was an actual gameplay reason why it made sense think about it in real life terms we have a home because ultimately we need a convenient place to store our things and somewhere to sleep at night time. Sure you could stay in a hotel or an inn But that is not very economical. So if you could translate that into game terms maybe our characters lose a percentage of their stats after they are awake in game time for more than 16 hours. In which case you would have to rest to recover your full strength.

  13. As a FFXIV player of YEARS, I love seeing FFXIV show up on iterations of content.

Diadem came out in 2015, and then had multiple patches and then a whole expansion of nothing and then later got use in SHB. They didn't give up on it, they listened to feedback and acted on it.

Same with Palace of the Dead. They made it in ARR, then did the same in SB and plan to do the type of content, a more refined version in 2022.

Same with relic steps. ARR into HW into SB into SHB are all impactful iterations on relics that have grown from feedback.

It's amazing how FFXIV devs aren't scared to throw something at the wall, see it stick or not, then act on feedback to create a better product

  14. Honestly, I love this. I admit, I am a WoW Refugee and I only play the game for like 3 month now.
I really wanted a house in the game, but I hear horror stories about how hard it is to get one.

When I heard that this is coming up, basically housing 2: Island Boogaloo, I nearly jumped in my chair because I was just happy. I might not get my own house, but now… I get my own tropical Island.

  15. Blizz-Employer: Boss, I still don't get it what this FUN means, the players are talking about. Which mechanic does it describe?
Blizz-Boss: Oh, that. Never mind, it's just another thing they think they'll want, but they won't. It's against our TOS. Now go and continue removing whatever you'd removed, before boggeling me with that nonsense.
Blizz-Employer: O- Okay. Ah yes, the alcoholic drinks need to be renamed with fruit drinks…

  16. Something I would like to see with these islands would be like… Island linking with friends so you could set it up where you and your friends island would be swimming distance from each other. If it was all being loaded into the same instance they might have to set a cap on how many islands could be linked but I think it would be a neat thing to do.

  17. Minions roaming free, is something that has been asked for years for housing.
So that's why he mentions it, if someone is wondering why he states something relatively "meaningless".

  18. I'm really looking forward to Island Sanctuary! I have enjoyed collecting minions (pets) throughout my time with FFXIV, and I can't wait to see how I get to interact with them! I am really hoping that we can breed our own racing chocobos with this.

  19. The Island Sanctuary thing sounds almost like garrisons in a way but it's not in a temporary zone that we'll never see again lore-wise so it makes no sense to update and fix it if there are problems, i.e. Warlords of Draenor zone being in an alternate past timeline.
