The latest live letter and the Dawntrail job action trailer got me even more hyped for the next Final Fantasy 14 expansion! Here is a quick summary of the changes coming to all healers (White Mage, Sage, Scholar, Astrologian) in FFXIV Dawntrail!

I can’t wait to share more when we get a more detailed look at all these new healer abilities.

  1. It seems like they accidentally perfected the shield healer playstyle with Sage, and now they don't know what to do with Scholar. It's such a bloated mess, especially with the Arcanist leftovers that do basically nothing. Scholar is so completely outclassed by Sage that it almost feels redundant. I think it just needs a complete overhaul at this point.

  2. I don't like the idea that because you spend a few seconds under Seraphism every fight you don't show any appreciation for the graphical artists who designed that and then want it removed. You're already spending most of the time in regular glam, having a visual effect on you in combat is not going to kill anyone.

  3. Honestly the Astro rework looks disappointing. A lot of AST mains (myself included) really like the rng card mechanics. Its part of the class identity and people enjoyed the unique challenge, so the devs removing it instead of of trying to improve it sucks.

  4. As a SCH main, the glamour change during Seraphism definitely has me concerned as I usually lean into the “Military Tactician” concept of the Scholar. Changing our glamours is a bold move on the devs part, regardless of what job it’s on.

  5. I stop playing when they got rid of scholar damage ability. I got so bored just waiting to heal. Thinking of playing again but do you think the game is friendly to people joining again.

  6. SCH getting so much! I'm so excited! Seraphism definitely fills a desired hole in our kit, where we have the most trouble dealing with Doom spells that reduce HP to 1 and have to get people back to full health ASAP. Also I love angelic aesthetic so giving me a free angel transformation is pure bliss! <3

  7. Also keeping my mind open about Astro. They removed it as a shield heals, they are taking away the sign system which I may say also replenish mp and has cast time reductions. I honestly linked the rng, I think you at least need 2 diff cards to gain the effects from the signs. 😅

  8. SCH is the healer job I love; but man, since ShB has it been a downhill ride for the poor bookworm class. Just feels like; outside of the obvious balancing issues with it being meta since forever (lol they attached a DoT to chain strategem followup), they just gutted so much of the fun aspects of the job that made it feel like a tactician. I still don't get why we lost our AoE DoT; which now SGE is getting, but instead have to run in like a moron and slap the ground to spam AoE. I still don't get why SCH; the fairy job with lore is tied to Nymian stuff, is getting all this angelic stuff that seems more like WHM territory. Couldn't they at least have made the wings fairy wings? At this point; I expect them to just remove Eos from the game entirely in the next expansion. Hell; they took our girl Selene out back, so it's not too farfetched 🙁

  9. Love sch hyped for it but I'm worried about the glam change on seraphism. For Savage raid and ultimate I don't wear dresses because it makes it difficult to see where I'm standing for mechanics. So if it forces me to wear a dress I'm at a disadvantage I hope they give an alternate look or the option of no glam effect.

  10. “The RNG made astrologian and unreliable healer.”
I must disgaree, no other class had buffs like AST the healing aspect was fun and took a little time to get the Timed heals down but the buffs themselves didnt affect its healing ability even in EW where astrodyne offered its buffs.

The simplification will turn the job into the other healers.. some buff window whether it be defensive, offensive or curative for 60 seconds to 2 minutes.

  11. More stuff to do as WHM? Yes, please. As nice as it is sometimes to just turn my brain off and spam Glare/Holy/Medica I&II most of the time it would be nice to have a damage rotation of some kind for when you want/need some extra deeps.

  12. Astrodyne was an incosequential ability that never felt good to pop off because it was an inconsistent buff. looking forward to the astro changes if they just focus on buffing the cards and making those buffs last longer (30 seconds imo)

  13. They didn't address the real healer problem, endless glare spam in raiding with only occasional off gcd healing. Repeat for every raid ever, zzzzzzzz.
Hell they even introduced a 1-2-3 combo merger into a single button, so couldnt they give healers a 1-2-3 combo for some animation variety using just 1 button still then heal between that? 😭😭

  14. Hopefully these changes to Sage will make Sage players better because I can count the number of good Sage players that I’ve met on one hand mostly because they go into the job thinking it’s going to be exactly the same as playing white mage and so they are often lazy when it comes to healing or throwing a barriers and as a result, your party team wipes often because they don’t realize that the sage class is an active class when it comes casting healing/barrier spells as well as doing damage, you can’t be a lazy, healer and play sage if you wanna do it well.
