  1. After playing praetorium trillions of times over the years i knew it was him the first second he came onto the screen because he still uses the same weapon. Then when it focused on a mask on his belt and did a spooky zoom in and ends the scene i knew there was no doubt about it

  2. to me the unveil happened on the dungeon, the burn. When you hear praetorium theme song so well mixed and with totally other vibe,it immediately made me think of Gaius the next time I saw the Shadowhunter

  3. You know when your computer's hard drive is constantly making those clicking noises trying to procrss something and the hourglass icon is there instead of your mouse pointer as it'd loading something?….

  4. A fun thing about back when "Shadowhunter" was revealed for the first time at the end of 4.3 — there were a lot of people who recognized him as Gaius because of Heirsbane and the mask on his belt. But there was also a small contingent of players (like myself) who had long believed that Gaius never died in the Praetorium to begin with, and part of that theory was founded upon the special Undead enemies you could find inside Palace of the Dead.

There's around 18-20 special enemies in PotD that can randomly appear on floors past a certain point — and they were actually NPCs that had died during the course of the story and apparently been "revived" by Nybeth Obdilord's magic. Two of those enemies you can run into are the Flyblown Praefectus and the Jaundiced Tribunus — shown to very clearly be Rhitahtyn sas Arvina and Livia sas Junius, respectively. But interestingly enough, Gaius himself never actually appeared as an enemy. A fair number of people took this as confirmation that Gaius wasn't actually dead — because clearly Nybeth would have revived him with his necromancy given how powerful Gaius was.

The scene with Shadowhunter coming back and being revealed to be Gaius confirmed that that speculation was indeed true.

  5. Gaius: likely committed what would be considered war crimes and had something the equivalent to a nuke to conquer your own country, and has a skull for a helmet with horns
    WoL: You’ll never be forgiven!
    helmet off sexy AF
WoL: he’s morally grey being bridal carried in Gaius’ arms
    Gaius: I have kids.
    WoL: and now he’s daddy.

  6. Look between the fact we never seen gaius without his armor on, va change, his weapon and fighting style being common among elite garleans, and the blink and you miss it hints, I'm amazed the options weren't "It can't be…!?" "Who… are you?" "I see you're back from the dead."

  7. His acting aside, it’s still not a very good twist. They did a lot of good with the plot point and story chain, but it was a messy, poorly thought up reveal to start it.

  8. This reveal surprised me when I reached it a few weeks ago too. Especially with gun blades being all over the place now with the class available to players I didn't recognize his weapon as specifically that gun blade and in the zoom to his mask collection I only noticed Ascian masks not Baelsar's, despite having "watched" (aka had on one monitor with Youtube or Netflix on the other) Prae dozens of times. It wasn't as obvious to new sprouts running through as to you who had 4 months or whatever between patches to have people talk about the weapon and mask ad nauseam. I'm no lore nerd by any means (not sure where people got the heir whatever name for his weapon everyone is using from) but I don't skip cutscenes and was still shocked by this.
