Not pictured: The flip side of this where if you don't have those pieces you're trash and uninvited from the raid lol
Yeah and it would be a better system if it wasn’t tied to shit drop rates, low amounts of loot so you have to repeat the content a shit ton of times if the piece you wanted didn’t even drop, let alone if you rolled high enough for it and then when you didn’t; you get left behind for all the new content and you can’t participate and are forced to backseat while doing brain dead grind because you don’t have streamer priveledge to be given the good/fun gear
It’s almost like the “only bigger numbers” gear is fair to players that aren’t streamers or guild leaders so that they get to play the game they pay for too, pretty fucking crazy right?
You play the game using only 10% of your buttons, you get a gear set and now you can use more… but you have to get all they way to that point
I remember shaman set that let you chain heal extra person. I like those that changes the ability a little.
Imagine getting extra cleave charge. Or TBN cost less. AST get extra redraw which would be weird because they removed it but come on its fun.
I think I like ff gearing because it is so much like wrath token gearing. I look at wow now and damn it's shit.
I played 15 years of FF11 and at one point I had like 150 gear pieces for my Scholar to swap in and out for everything situational.
Each side has its pro's/cons FFXIV pros: More people have access to end game, less people getting kicked because "they don't have the gear". Can reach max ilvl without doing Savage BiS is what you make it, not what a piece of paper tells you. Cons: Less important to fully gear as fast as possible. Hard Core raiders are not cared for (who cares to be honest) Etc.. FFXIV caters to the community < not to the end game. Understanding that you are a hard core raider < you aren't going to be looked at by the devs of Yoshi P. They only care about if the community can clear it, not the 1%
a game when the gear is the content is a trash game.
Gear that changes the way you play by giving you new abilities which makes it so that best in slot is nearly mandatory to be able to do something is horrible because now you have to balance WITH and WITHOUT that gear difference.
HOWEVER, however. FF's gearing system ABSOLUTELY has room to grow, and it should grow and change. The main problem comes from stats itself. All the stats are absolutely boring and barely change anything at all. Variation and difference in meaningful stats would go a long way. Just look at direct hit. It's literally just a worse crit. Even the simple adjustment of making Crit and Direct hit being Crit damage and Crit rate respectively would foster something more interesting and engaging.
However, i would rather that they tied some sort of meaningful progression to skill trees instead. That is far easier to balance than balancing with and without a gear piece that changes how you play because everyone NATURALLY has access to a skill tree through progression of their own jobs instead. It opens ways to be more unique and creative with your job, affecting certain actions and playstyles while giving jobs room to breathe so if theres a specific choice between several types of amplification, the best one at the time can be chosen, while lesser ones can be left. In turn, that allows specific tuning of skill trees that have lower pickrates from being less useful. So even when a job might be hurting, there might be other options to boost itself up some.
The ONLY thing that shouldn't be done is both gear that changes how you play, and skill trees that change how you play. Balancing items and personal horizontal progression is an absolute fucking nightmare and its why games like League and WoW will never be balanced. It's far too much.
1 extra perk for a set bonus isn't worth the hundred negatives that come with WoW gearing…
The point Sfia makes is valid, acquiring a piece of gear is a bigger deal in WoW for all the reasons he mentioned. But the undiscussed problem is the time-gated RNGfest tiresome bullshit methods of acquisitions of said gear in WoW. FFXIV may have more boring gear progression, but it's a predictable and stable system where you can know when and how to get BIS and the goods massively outweigh the bads IMHO.
If hard to be mad at gear when you dont actually get anything in FFXIV
But yeah, FFXIV gear is literally nothing
This is something about the game thats really lost me, and i get my fix in, of all games, Destiny 2, because build crafting in D2 is legit, you can do some really fun stuff, and a new Raid/Dungeon or just more casual seasonal content can drop weapons with new perks, or maybe theyll release new armour mods that change builds altogether.
FFXIV is incredibly shallow, which kind of makes the current design and balance issues even more pathetic, theres nothing else for them to even work on.
its about how YOU play not your gear, a game based of getting the best gear its just a hamster wheel
