Monster hunter does that too. Its nice and it doesnt break the balance of the game.
This is what i like about Runescape
Wouldn't that also remove a lot of personality from the character though? Like my character isn't a paladin or a ranger they're… Whatever I happen to need at the moment. IDK.
That's why I play Albion instead of wow. In Albion you can do it all with one char, in wow, 10 alts🤣
Is this where albion online got its little niche
Albion does this too!
Phantasy Star Online 2 is like that too. You can have a main and Sub class. and your level goes off your main so you can change your sub if you want to try new classes.
I love the idea of having multiple characters.
Each being a different class.
This way i am being attached to multiple characters.
That's why I love when a game has either:
1. Free Respec, that doesn't have much of an in-game lore or reason for existing (like Baldur's Gate 3, and yeah, I know, it costs 100 gold, but also not really);
2. A Respec that, whether free or not, is also a part of the game's lore and core systems (Dragon's Dogma 1 and 2, for example).
Basically, I just like when Respec exists, and it's rather easily attainable. MMOs often require you to pay some money for it, or some in-game currency, that often gets bigger the more you Respec.
But the idea that you can just do whatever you want with your character's capabilities is nice.
There's also games like Skyrim where you TECHNICALLY can change into another "class", but that's mostly just changing up your weapons and armor. But your Perks remain.
So you can switch to a Barbarian with a huge two handed Axe, but you'll still have your countless levels in Destruction magic. xd
I don't know if they ever made a system to genuinely Respec your Perk levels in it tho.
I loved that mechanic in FFXI as well. You had to go to your moghouse and switch classes, but you didn't have to switch toons.
too bad the story got AWFULLY BORING
Ive been playing ff14 for nearly 7 years now have an absurd amount of hours played and dont intend to ever stop even if official servers die eventually ill wait an join fan servers / revival communitys i probably should have some more rare stuff than i do got quite a few things considered uncommon / rare but at this point of 7 years frels like i should have more but the grind for some of it is painful looking at you Eureka an bozja front
I would literally curl up in a ball for months an just cry an feel emptyness for years if i lost my character
That's why I think Diablo sucks because I don't want to play as pregenerated characters who I have no connection to
and then you have the roleplay fiends who make six billion alts anyway
It's why it's hard to get attached to your character in the story in games like WoW. However that doesn't stop you from getting attached to the gameplay, or your own personal stories with other players.
Thor, I'm emotionally attached to you. ♥ @PirateSoftware
Larval tears in 2nd place
An important thing about this is that job changes are canon, and are displayed in the Shadowbringer Expansion trailer! (A slight warning for spoilers post stormblood!)
this is also why I love Mabinogi, Mabinogi gives you Every skill from every specialized class, and only limits you to how fast you can switch weapons mid fight, making fights more dynamic when you learn your enemies can use the same skills you can.
Sounds like Fantasy Life. Such a cool game.
Also Albion does this.
Terraria does that kinda
What i dont like is the leveling system. It takes too damn long to level all your jobs, individually, over and over again. It is so repetitive. It feels like it was meant to burn you out.
I would rather have it so that you could get universal xp for all your jobs, or let it be able to assign a subjob to level while you are playing your main job. It is also stupid that places like eureka doesnt give job xp, or that you cant start Bahzja until 71. The 50 to 71 grind is horrible.
The fate system is stupid, it needs a serious overhaul to be similar to the southern front, needs more variety, and greater xp gains for lower levels. It should not be as mindless as it is, as it just shows laziness in development, when we can see what fates could be like.
Having dungeons (deep dungeons included) as really the only viable options to level is stupid, which is further exacerbated by the moogle tome grinds. Leveling solo should be just as viable as team leveling.
That is one of the best things about FF14 and i been playing since 2013 with the same character i started on the Ps3 and now play on Pc 😊
Dragon's Dogma does this well too
Honestly the more n more I play 14 the more lore I come up for my lalafell n it's a great feeling I wouldn't trade the little shit I made for anything
Terraria is the same way. Thats why i love Terraria.
