  1. As someone who still plays WoW and started XIV three years ago, I am so happy to find another Azerothian Warrior of Light! So excited to see your love for XIV grow, just like mine has! I hope you have another home in XIV!

  2. Feels like this is a character arc that every wow streamer goes through now. Becomes bored of wow, tries FF, claims it's the most amazing mmorpg they've ever played in their honeymoon stage and the community hard simps for them, hard plays it for about 6 months, gets bored once they've played through the stories and done the endgame, community stops hard simping for said streamer and ventures over to another returning or new wow streamer to bask in the fotm ff lover spotlight streams, and streamer eventually gets bored and returns to wow

  3. I haven't had a chance to check out your videos yet. The YouTube Recommends Rabbit Hole only just now clued me in.

But a belated Welcome to FFXIV!

Out of curiosity, have you played the OG FF7 or FF8? The Manderville Gold Saucer is a BIG reference to FF7, and Triple Triad is a BIG one for FF8 and even has FF8's Triple Triad music. FFXIV's version of it makes impossible for me to go back to FF8's.

  4. Loving watching you try it out 🙂 FFXIV community loves new people and is incredibly welcoming!

Getting them to stick around post MSQ is a diff matter – I noticed a lot of creators who joined FFXIV saw huge drop off once the MSQ was over. Just expect it's a temporary boost while you're going through the story. Any that stick around is a bonus.

I really hope you retain it though, you're very relaxing to watch so I've subbed to your YT 🙂

  7. I think the mentor system and the novice network really contributed to the amazing community we have in FFXIV, but I genuinely believe it's a lot to do with Yoshi-P and how he interacts with us, and how he wants us to have nice things.

  8. Good to see your experience is going so well so far, 100's of people have probably told you this but if you get through the slow burn that is ARR and especially Post-ARR, if something is going to hook you it will truly be the second expansion, and the pay off will all become worth it at the end. It will be a long ride, I really hope you can buckle up and take your time to enjoy it with your community and then you'll have all the endgame content to look forward to in the end of that long road. Can't wait to see how it goes for you next!

  10. Regarding people saying ARR is the worst part of the game, while it IS true, I believe it's a case of a B student in a class full of straight A. B is still a great score, but it looks bad in comparison, and you can't perceive it's greatness until you get out of that class and see the world full of C.

Don't worry too much about catching up. Even at ARR, if you want a challenge, there are Extreme fights and Coils, which is very challenging content, and streamers usually don't have issues finding people to play these with them at level, while common players are usually advised to let a max level player carry them through Coils to experience the story in the right "time frame".

Heck, if dungeons are your thing, Deep Dungeon (Palace of the Dead) is available from level 15, and to this day is one of the most challenging content in the game, to the point one of its achievements is a premium title for how rare it is (Necromancer, from soloing all 200 floors without dying). For story sake, I would advise you to only tackle it after you finish base ARR, and then do the Corpse Bride quest in Ul'dah, which set the seeds for the PotD storyline. I have no idea why they let you tackle the third part of the story before the second, but that's not on me.

Welcome to Eorzea. Hope you enjoy it for a long time.

  13. I think the big difference ultimately is FFXIV is one of those few online games like Monster Hunter where they aren't competitive. In most online games even people in your group, on your team or whatever are in some fashion trained to actively see the people around them as competition. You've gotta get BiS so you don't get dropped for progression, you've got to get the best time on a time trial or the highest rank or something that cultivates a sentiment that other players are either something you have to beat or something that is a detrimental thing that can drag you down. I've been playing XIV since the beginning and you still see people so used to combative aggression as the norm that they start the game and get surprised when someone is given a couple of minutes if they DC, or explaining something to a new player. Because they are so used to chasing to some peak, some maximum goal that everyone else exists to aid you in getting to or is hindering you. Thats just not the case and the sentiment of "hey chill out, the party only moves as fast as its slowest member and we were all new and oblivious to mechanics the first time" can throw people for a loop because so many games have trained them to behave as an asshole as baseline if only because thats how everyone has been to them in online games in the past and it perpetuates from player to player. When everyone had to do the same MSQ and in turn the same dungeons and fights without question people are a lot more forgiving and understanding than if its just a random race of white noise to get to level cap, then bis then fight shoulder to shoulder for drops in a raid. XIV isn't really doing anything special in that regard its just not incentivising seeing other players as antagonists.

  14. Welcome to the game and the community!

I personally played WoW for about 15 years before trying FF and my biggest advice for people who think the combat is slow is to just keep playing. ARR is like when you are first learning to play Stairway to Heaven, and endgame content is like playing Dueling Banjos. I cant stress enough how fast FF's endgame combat can become even by WoW's standards.

As far as ARR's story goes, there is a lot of worldbuilding and setup for later things. It also moves fairly slow relative to later story stuff. But its honestly fine. Especially when coming from WoW. The story is one of the main selling points of the entire game so just take your time and soak it all up at your own pace.

The other major thing about this game (comparing it to WoW again) is how heavily focused it is on community and social interactions. The venue event community is insanely massive in this game thanks to the housing system and all the customization that allows.

One might be worried about endgame content like raiding with all this focus on story and social stuff, but endgame raiding is huge and its difficult. Very difficult. Fights are very well telegraphed and less chaotic/random compared to WoW. There are less players per raid so everyone has a lot of personal responsibility. Its a lot of fun if you enjoy super hard content. The rewards are usually an exclusive weapon of your choice, a title and some unique adventurer plate stuff.

There is barely any FOMO in this game. They dont really remove mechanics and systems between expansions, and level scaling makes sure that endgame content stays (mostly) relevant in terms of difficulty no matter what. So if you see someone with a cool raid specific adventurer plate or weapon glam (transmog) you know they have completed it and not just cheesed the raid at a later expansion.

Another cool thing is that there is no datamining in this game. So when there is a new expansion or a new raid, nobody knows anything and you get to experience everything for the first time along with everyone else instead of reading about it on wowhead.

Anyway, im honestly not trying to shit on WoW or anything here. I just wanted to share some things i as a former WoW player thought was cool about FF.

  15. imo the biggest things for helping the community be friendly are we are not encouraged to view people as the enemy. there's nothing like alliance vs hoard, or join X npc faction against the other. there's the beginner sprout/returner flower system that shows at a glance new players and people that have not played in a while. finally there is first timer bonus on some content and it will mention in chat if there is someone new in the run.

  16. It’s so good, I started playing in December, took a little break but I’m back now and finally getting through the newest expansion.

That said my main complaint with my playthrough so far is I was too worried about catching up and didn’t take the story in as much as I wish I had, and it’s such a good story. So definitely take your time and enjoy the game, the amount of content is Mindboggling.

Also you’re very correct about the community. I noticed that right off the bat, I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a more helpful and welcoming community in a game ever.
