FFXIV: A Realm Reborn's Patch Quests – A Surprising Improvement

I’m gonna put Battle on the Big Bridge into as many videos as I want and you can’t stop me

I played the patch quests for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, an MMORPG developed and published by Square Enix, and thought it was pretty good. Here is why I thought it was pretty good. Maybe you think it is pretty good too. Maybe you do not. Subjectivity is awesome, isn’t it? I love subjectivity, in fact, they call me Dr. Subjectivity. FFXIV is a neat game. Do play it. I recommend it. Or don’t, I’m not your mama.

  1. fun fact the hildabrand quest line was made specifically to test and explore the limits of what the engine could do as any errors would be seen as just part of the humor . this is the reason that the main scenario cutscenes get more dynamic as the series goes on

  2. In my opinion the ARR post patches and Heavensward is where the writing of XIV is at its absolute best, but the former is often overlooked by the fandom so I'm super happy to see a video covering them! I do think the pacing is a bit of a slog sometimes (especially since they made CT mandatory… and I personally hated most of CT except for Cid and Nero's rivalry/divorced couple dynamics) but everything leading up to the Bloody Banquet and the setup for the Dragonsong War was incredible.

  3. binding coil is effectively the savage raid series of arr, even though second coil has an extra difficult mode specifically named "savage". it is basically impossible to queue into any savage, with a small expection for currrent tier reclears on jp servers. if you want to go through older fights sync'd, you need to get a full party premade. the effort is very much worth it, though, even if you don't go blind at the challenge.

  4. Hey there friend, finally digging in to your new video! Im going to make several comments about different points you made so this is likely going to be a long post.

The problem with final fantasy 15 wasn't that it had a weak story or a satisfying conclusion. The problem was that they decided to tell it's story over multiple media formats. The base game itself is literally just limited to Noctis's perspective. To appreciate the full narrative you'll have needed to watch the movie, play the demo, watch the anime, play the 2D streets of rage style minigame, get all the DLCs, and for world building you would also have needed the book. This was just simply too much spread over too many different forms of media and was done purely to compensate for them releasing only half a game after delaying it for a decade.

For the world leaders, I am pretty certain they weren't motivated purely by pettiness to not help ishgard. The war with the dragons has been waged for a thousand years at this point. It isn't a recent attack that's happening. Furthermore, all 3 nations have issues of their own they can't just ignore. They're all still only 5 years out from the calamity that destroyed all of their nations. Limsa is struggling with the Kobolds and the Sahagin for land and resources and also with rogue bands of pirates that are against serving under Merlwyb. Ul'dah is struggling with the Amal'jaa and also with the incredibly large influx of refugees fleeing to them from Ala Mhigo. Gridania is struggling with the Ixali and they actually share a border with Ala Mhigo, which is a nation that has fallen to Garlemald and is where they operate out of in Eorzea. They don't have the men and the resources to send their Companies to help Ishgard, the fact that Ishgard didnt come to their aid 5 years ago just makes their decision easier.

Im only ten minutes in so ill post this and just add more responses to replies to this comment lol.
