  1. If a healer pulls the aggro on a trash mob or two because of something like a pre-emptive regen for a couple of attacks and the tank doesn't immediately catch the aggro back until they arrive at the death ball location, I see that merely as making use of healer's own otherwise useless HP pool for mitigation, allowing you to focus on more damage. They'll be soon back up to full once we stand in the heal bubble for a bit as they spam Holy or whatever.

  2. Thanks for the mob pulling tip. For some reason it never occurred to me to use my provoke. GNB has an OGCD that can be used to pull, but Rough Divide is still shorter at 15 yalms. I also didn't realize having a healers regen pulls aggro on them. I guess I can always use aurora or look out for Regens to click them off.

  3. Nice to see someone else that gets tanking. As a melee dps/tank player so much about many tanks drive me up the wall. Between poor positioning excess movement and not using CDs( more of a problem for healers).

  5. I play healer main in FF14 and regen is'nt an issue with good tanks. I help out by running side by side with the tank and often stand in the middle of the mobs so I can Holy them down (Whm) to reduce damage that members take. But from a healers perspective, I often have issues with tanks hitting sprint and running ahead, many times resulting in them being half dead before I can even get within heal range, though some times they have died as a result. Of course there's always the tank that forget to turn their stance on or can't look up to see the rest of the group is dying due to some spawn they don't have any aggro on at all. And yes, the quality of a groups Whm varies greatly as well. Some i'm sure they are playing one just to level it and know nothing about healing. I'm glad you covered the "spinning around" crap since I can't count the number of tanks that have cleaved the raid. I can appreciate the tanks responsibility for facing mobs the right way for the up coming mechanics but consider it a healers co-job to know what is coming as well to optimize keeping everyone alive.. Experience is golden in that case. Good video, especially for the new comers. Personally I found the flood of what I call the "Covid Commando's" during the pandemic to be trying and frustrating as most were merely looking for something to do and not of what I would call 'gaming quality' but hopefully they learned and got better.

  6. I tanked for many years in wow. Came to XIV last year as dps. One of the biggest peeves I have in dungeons is spreading mobs. I’ll typically wait for the “death ball” before I do work but sometimes man… sometimes tanks will get them all together and then decide to move closer to the next area entrance. Completely fucks dps on aoe

  7. About the regen I knew this (WHM POW) so usually only use Divine Benison barrier on tank as he pulls packs. Barrier doesn't seem to interact with enmity much. This also opens me to the question: Does GNB precasting Aurora would help them get aggro?

  8. I have heard some players in FF14 say that tanks who feel the need to spam their provoke for every pull are dogshit apparently and cant hold aggro, I have found that advice given in FF14 is rarely if ever consistent and always different depending on the player

  9. Dont stop the mobs on the caster at paglathan.bring em to the debris wall, take that out, grab the dragon and take it and the caster to the next wall, then stack them up. Make sure your mitigating.

  10. Man, I can't tell you how many times I have been "corrected" for provoking first. Its almost twice as far as my next longest ability AND it's oGCD! The general sentiment I've seen is that it's an "oh shit" button. Same mindset as people saving swiftcast. To your point on Warrior, I've gotten lazy and don't bother with the AoE combo during the collection phase, getting the extra 130 potency on like 3 mobs isn't going to make or break anything and I find Mythril Tempest is just so much easier to use twice in a row.

In the latest dungeon I find it is tricky to deathball the 2nd & last pull because of the large size of all the mobs. How do you approach those pulls to get stuff as tightly packed as possible? Human sized things are easy to stack, but bigass dragons tend to bump into each other. I guess their hitboxes are larger so maybe they don't need to be grouped as tightly, but it just feels so chaotic and uncontrolled and I don't like it lol.

  11. Brand new tank here. Only been playing about a month and I just came from your optimal video. The Information you’ve provided is invaluable. It’s helped me quite a bit, even though I’m still in arr dungeons. The part that resonated the most with me in that video, is what you said at the end. DONT BE AFRAID TO FAIL! That is easily some of the best advice I’ve heard thus far. You’ve earned my sub good sir.

  12. I love videos like this. A lot of videos repeat the same information and seem to miss on the little details that make a big difference, but this video hits on some of those small yet important details!

  13. WAR is my tank of choice and I do use backwards overpower but I don't use provoke like you described, I actually do a early single target rotation to get up storms eye and if any aggro drops in that short window I'll use provoke, having that infinitely chaining 10% dmg boost is a big deal imo and I'm kinda shocked you don't do it. I'm hoping WARs new skill is an AoE oGCD version of upheaval that would make this even easier.

  14. A thing for Amhuluk (first boss in new expert): if you have 2 ranged dps, you are actually better off not centring him. If he isn't centred, if you are far out (like any blm will be), they will be out of range for wide blaster. This lets them utterly ignore the mechanic. If you centre them, they will often get targeted, and all of a sudden they need to take time to move out of the aoe (which can cost them up to 2 GCDs). Most tanks either don't know this (and don't centre him), or always centre even if they don't have melee.

  16. Its not advanced technique, but the amount of tanks that leave enemies in DoT puddles like in boss fights is crazy. Just get out them out of puddles so melee DPS can actually do something useful lol

  17. yo easy sub! got me in the first minute of the video about establishing aggro on packs. i did not know that provoke on one enemy in a pack would pull the group. i thought you would have to hit all of them in order to pull aggro, or gain los on the add while in tank stance (obviously lol). im a new returning player (played 4 years ago on ps4 up to level 18 lancer and dropped off). i have only done dps and decided to tank cuz why not, looked fun. TLDR great video. thought enmity was gained from los, damaging all in pack, and provoke only pulled aggro on one enemy. learned a lot in just 1 minute of this video than i have from others. such as tankxiety vids

  18. Is there a standard of facing bosses North? If so why north over any cardinal direction? I'm a bit confused there. Is there also a difference in true north vs north like in real life since you used both terms?

  21. i just started tanking for like 4 days and i notice boss sometimes would just 180* turn and cone aoe then turn back to me… its target is still me, and i doubt i lost aggro
i usually run past the boss, get on his back, make him turn around… and the dps will be at the entrance attacking the boss’s back
    tip5?

  22. #3 is a huge pet peeve of mine when I'm on WHM. I've seen way too many tanks do wall to wall pulls, use mitigations while I'm chain stunning the packs and after 3 Holy casts the mitigations have fallen off and their ass is on the menu. If you see a White Mage sprinting right behind you during the pulls, hold off on the mitigations until you are below 50-60% health. If the healer is lagging behind for whatever reason, feel free to pop your CDs according to your judgement to get a breathing room until the first Holy hits and the regens start ticking.

  23. I've been a tank main for almost a year now and somehow I never thought of pulling trash packs with Provoke. But now that you point it out, it makes sense; you're right about it being longer range than the ranged attack, and the enmity on it being relative to the rest of the party doesn't matter since it's ogcd and you can just use your aoe once they start moving.
