the etymology for gun in xiv is actually identical to that of real life, which makes this pretty funny to explain at length in game
It's a sword with magic batteries engraved with spells.
Worth noting the Gunhylda entomology is actually where real life guns get their name. They were named after a ballista called Gunhylda presumably named after the mythological woman
