FF14 New Player after 15 years of WoW – Rogue Time, Chocobo Racing and Ocean Fishing – Day 5

FF14 First Impressions:
I’ve played WoW for over 15 years but given the state of WoW right now and the lack of content, I’m trying FFXIV for the first time and documenting my journey throughout the game.

Throughout I will be comparing FFXIV to WoW and referencing the differences between the two. Obviously, I do have some bias, but I will try and keep an open mind all the way. As always these are just my thoughts and opinions.

Also if you have any tips for new players in FFXIV please let me as I’m probably making a lot of mistakes. And as always everyone is welcome to join the discord too, I’ll link it in the comments if you want to chat

  1. Be careful with filling up your inventory. If you fill it up and get something good if will be dropped to the floor never to be seen again. Check it regularly and keep it sorted by how you want it to be sorted, especially if you get into multiple crafting disciplines. You can also use your retainers as item mules, along with the chocobo saddlebag to hold things you aren't immediately using but want to keep relatively close.

  2. Btw a fun thing too. In final fantasy all your lower classes get a 100% experience boost when they are lower then your highest, so you can level easier too

  3. This series is great! I've been playing FFXIV since 1.0 and recently fell away from the game. Reliving it through through your videos is really helping to get me hyped to play again. Cheers, bruh

They were super cool to sit around and watch, they are called * The Songbirds of FFXIV* you should look them up and see their next show!

  5. Note: if it hasn't been said….level Culimarian to like 30 I think it is to unlock the ability to desynth fish while you level Fisher….it'll come in handy and you can make some good gil on the market from some items you get from certain fish you can catch….all in all another great vid!

  6. Ah yes, the Gold Saucer strikes again, and Ocean Fishing <3 I heard there's new routes for it, but I haven't gone fishing in a while… it carried me to 80 easily! The nice thing about it, is that it doesn't require any high end skill to get big points. Whether you are level 1 or 80, RNG rules the seas. Someone may call out one of the three main baits that will be used in the Voyage, but aside that any bait will still catch fish. There is very little you can do to influence it.

Welcome to Rogue. Most classes play "Similar" at low levels. Here's your 1, your 2, your 3. But they each have their own stories to tell (Some more interesting than others.. At this point they are called "Classes". These are simplified versions of what you eventually become. Level 30 is where things ramp up, 50 feels more whole. In my experience, 70 is where you feel complete, and then the stuff at 80 just makes you better at what you do <3

And yes there are some shared actions – these are "Role" actions. All mages (healing or DPS) have Lucid Dreaming and Swiftcast for example. All Ranged physical have Head Graze and Second Wind as examples. Now, there are certain actions (Such as the Limit Break) which I like keeping on a separate hotbar that is not kebound to anything. This is to prevent me from accidentally hitting it. Bars 1-3 are bound to the job you play by default, bars 4 + are "Universal" so they will stay that way no matter what job you play as.

  7. I love these videos 😀 Btw Ocean fishing gives you LOADS of exp – you'll quickly max out your fisher by doing Ocean Fishing. (There's also another area that will help with the exp gain for all your crafters too!)

  8. Ughh I been procrastinating rogue all week….your video sparked me up gotta go become a rogue now. Bro there's a mount you can get for ocean fishing if you really tap into it. Prolly will require a guide you need a high score n there's an efficient way and order of bait to use to achieve the score u need for the mount.

  9. Ugh I tried Rogue the other day and LOVED it!! The story was so good. I think I’m gonna do the same and level that up as my second class. It was really refreshing after being a caster.

  10. Part of the reason there's so many systems in the game like Ocean Fishing is, besides them listening to the community, some systems are literally a passion project someone on the dev team wanted to make and they put support into it. That's also why a lot of them have a lot of attention to detail and aren't just a barebones means to an end
