FF14 New Player after 15 years of WoW – Golden Saucer and Dungeons – Day 3 of FFXIV

FF14 New Player First Impressions.
I’ve played WoW for over 15 years but given the state of WoW right now and the lack of content, some of my friends have convinced me to try FF14. So I wanted to document my FF14 first impressions, document my journey through FF14 as a new player and give my feedback along the way.

Throughout I will be comparing FF14 to WoW and references the differences between the two. Obviously, I do have some bias, but I will try and keep an open mind all the way. Also, be aware this series does contain spoilers on the FFXIV main quests.

Tried to focus a lot on exploring the FFXIV Golden Saucer and doing more of the MSQ today!

Also if you have any tips for new players in FFXIV please let me know as I’m probably making a lot of mistakes.

  2. I've been playing FF14 for almost a year, and I have only ever been in ONE dungeon with a toxic person. 99% of the time everyone will be helpful and understanding, especially if you say its your first dungeon. The more dungeons you go in to the more mechanics will go in to effect. Like for example at lvl 28 you'll get a dungeon where you have to turn off 4 lamps that the boss summons in the corners of the rooms.

  3. Hi there well I jumped from Wow 3 days ago with a friend and am so far enjoying it a lot, taking a little getting used to the combat and professions being too separate dutes with there own quests and gear and weapons, but other than that its great fun.

  5. Love your progress through your experience, when comparing the 2 games, I have also played WoW since 2004, Final Fantasy did so much things better and it makes you involved and just want to do more and more. You’re great man!

  6. You unlock better Triple Triad cards from harder dungeons, raids, etc. As for dungeons being repetitive, I find them all to be very different from each other, the mobs and boss designs are excellent. Ofc if you run the same dungeon over and over, then yes.

  7. Oh the Gold Saucer – Well, the "Make it Rain" campaign is coming back in July this year (Usually it's June, but it was delayed til August last year) so the GS will have higher rewards (I think it's a 50% bonus and new special items? I think the FFXV quest is coming back).

I love Triple Triad and the most recent update has added a Triple Triad based mount… for collecting all the cards… all 312 of them (not counting the EX cards). Yes, 312. In case you are wondering how insane this side quest is or how involved to get the achievement – I am level 80 on several jobs including crafting, gathering, and have capped my reputation with various Beast Tribes.

Aside playing NPCs for cards there are several that are only obtainable through special means –
    – Dungeons/Trials
    – direct purchase from an NPC at the Gold Saucer
    – Random card from TT dealer in Gold Saucer
    – Special in-game currency for doing FATEs in ShB content
    – Skybuilders Scripts from the Ishgardian restoration (Requires finishing level 60 HW scenario and having at minimum a Gatherer at 10 or crafter at 20)
    – New contant special instance items to trade to special instanced area NPC
    – Doing side quests to unlock challengers which includes maxing your reputation with a CRAFTING focused Beast Tribe
    – Doing 3 Savage level Trials (end game level 80 holy shitbiscuits you beat these guys once while this is still current content!? WTF)
    -and more

So, having this TT mount means you are more than an average gambler playing your friends for fun and profit. You are a maniac who has explored many facets of Eorzea and done just about everything under the sun. I started seriously collecting them after I had around 118 cards (I only abandoned playing every NPC I came across so I could progress the story and not keep my friends waiting) and currently have 241 cards. I still have quite a few NPCs to go, but I'm fair well determined to get the mount before EW debuts.

Also… Chocobo racing. It's a thing. It's separate from the Grand Company mount you either have or will have in the not too distant future. Assuming you have or will unlock Achievements and the challenge log, there is an NPC in Gridania that can exchange tokens for items including a couple mounts. While your first achievements seem slow to progress, you will naturally accumulate many more than you will ever need, and it only costs 6 for a behemoth. It's your Grand Company that will allow you to unlock riding mounts via. a license for about 200 Grand Company Seals (I think it's 2-5 FATEs in the early game) so, have fun 🙂

  9. people in the game encourages watching cutscenes especially if its for the main story. anybody who doesnt wait is considered a rude dbag. so take your time with it. and when the time comes youre forced to skip scenes, you can view it again at the inn.

  10. Rule of thumb when getting loot, always tap "need" for your main class/job and tap "greed" for your off classes and gear you don't want, hit "pass". It hurt me to see you pass on gear that you required to gear up.

  12. A few tipps. In duty finder top left is a gear icon, click on it and select all languages. That will speed up ur queue times a lot. Also in charconfiguration, ui, hud, there a setting that hides quest while in dungoens, to clean up ur screen when in instances. And in charconfig as well in chat options turn off both skillwarnings. This way the warn sound and the text, skill not ready wont show up anymore.

  13. I'm really happy you found this game and are enjoying it. Welcome to FFXIV. Too bad you're on the bad Europe Datacenter or I'd drop by and say hello!

P.S. I'm only calling it "bad" because I'm not in it. I miss my friends on it from back before the split. I plan to visit again when Datacenter Visit system opens up. I'll try to drop by and say hello!

  14. So commenting on something I heard in the last video, which seems to have comments disabled(?). You have to take note that the version of the game you are in is ARR, A Realm Reborn, which is post FFXIV Online. There is storyline from the base game that has been completely scrapped and completely redone but remembered within the story as they tel you about the “Calamity” that has happened in recent years.

  15. It is not better than world of warcraft. But wow is just old. Another games that newly launch, you would have think it would be better than wow. Give it a try 3 month… You know why wow is just wow.

  16. I only played WoW for about four years a while back, but I think your generalization is on point. I gave up learning to tank after an awful PUG experience of people trying to rush me and backseat.

  17. I'm sure you've seen by now, a month later, but the 2.5 gcd is a bit misleading because a lot of combat involves "weaving" abilities between GCDs, sometimes two at a time between them. So you might end up hitting a button every second or so. And the way a lot of jobs have burst phases and a combat flow is what makes it engaging to me.
