Editing Midi Files for FFXIV BMP – Basic Tutorial Guide

This video is a guide on the basics of how to take a standard midi music file, and convert it into a playable song in FF14. For some songs, this is an extremely complex and time-consuming process, and every editor has different preferences… but these basics will get your foot in the door of this fun side content!

  1. i'm in my 2nd week of barding in FFXIV and it's fun af. after the first few days of playing standard songs
i started to edit MIDIs that are not compatible with FFXIV in FL Studio, a few days later i switched to
recreating songs that i personally like. i can't play an instrument and have to rely on my ears only.
i wish i had seen this video before because those tips @ 5:03 would have saved me alot of time & pain.

    thanks for the video.

  2. Thanks for super helpful video! Trying to get World Without Logos from Hellsing, which is a rather herculean task since its a jazz piece. Managed to get something maybe passable, but I get "Cannot be loaded. One or more errors occurred" when trying to test it ingame. Any ideas?

  3. I personally think it's much better to remove the middle note rather than the top note in a guitar chord. you lose a lot of depth to your sound if you remove the top note because you only get the middle and the bottom which doesn't capture the full range of the chord, making the chord sound very weird at times. This is very noticeable on Prosthetic Head and The Grouch by Green Day for instance. You can easily get away with 3 notes at a time, in my experience.

Otherwise, I feel like this video was very helpful for aspiring bards.

  4. Thank for for making this tutorial. I've only just entered the world of bard and found the process of making songs daunting. Your video really helped and I'm looking forward to trying following your process. A question I had was that if you had left Track 2 as is without merging it with track one, would that have been considered a duet?

  5. I have been living the bard live the last month or so and enjoying BMP. I've finally decided it was time to make unique music not found on the BMP repository, which led me to this video!

I have recently learned that I am an idiot, however, and boy oh boy does this feel complicated. Gonna keep trying though. Your video gave me at least some sort of baseline to try and follow!

  7. This was such a helpful video thank you!
Thanks to this I was able to make my character play a theme song I loved from a childhood game that wasn't found on the midi repository, it's a shame I'm not musically gifted 😭

  9. HAhaa… I tried… have only one track so cant cut it the easy way (too lazy to play with chords/notes/whatever). Picked some less messy piano videos and tried to convert into midi without changes – it was a mess anyway. Looks like Barding is actually a hard job.
