Finally decided to level my evil twin Black Mage in FF14. As a monk main this job is literally the exact opposite of the job, BUT Black Mage has been a blast and I have learned a lot about the rotation up to lvl 50. Let me share my mistakes and finding to help give you some tips in Black Wizardry!

  1. Once you get to level 60 everything will completely smooth out. Fire 4 and Blizzard 4 are Gawdlike lol. And remember, its OK to be a heathen black mage and move out of the way. Like you said, dead mages deal no damage.

  2. Using ice first is also super important at low levels to build muscle m,emory for when you get Enochian. If you aren't in the habit of starting with ice, you have to go through your whole rotation before you can get the most out of the DPS buff enochian gives you. It's a HUGE dps loss.

    DONT FORGET TO USE THUNDER! This is my biggest weakness currently. Maybe I should make the icons bigger so I notice it dropping off more.

    Slide casting is literally the best thing that ever happened to me. I have noticed however that you have to be out of the graphic about .5-1 full second before the cast finishes or you still get hit. I'm still perfecting the timing on that one XD

    Didn't actually know the thing about dream… but you could transpose to ice, then use it if you needed to. Not ideal, but could save your mana a bit faster in a pinch in an emergency.

    Fire 4- just hit fire 4. You'll win. Healers can adjust. It's fine. Moving is for the weak.

  4. i use lucid dream, say when moving between pulls in dung. Say finish a group and were rotating thru dungeon. will transpose out of fire or if no astral applied will cast lucid dream to recoup mana as im running to the new group. then your first cast is ice so lucid still works , and your mana farming at the same time sorta from the umbral ice.
