  1. Final Fantasy XIV has a built in DPS meter lol

    On the party list, when engaged in combat, there are numbers underneath your class icon. That's what I believe to be the enmity gauge. It will list enmity with an A, 2, 3, etc.

    If you're DPS and have 2, 3, or 4 you're doin big deeps

  2. Im for act cause i want to see how im doing and as a dps without act is really hard to tell if you are doing good unless you have played the game for a long time. Obviously act has its disadvantages like people using the information to call others bad which shouldn't be allowed and another thing is console players can't use one.
    People often bring up wow that how it's so toxic because there's dps meters but to me it's more because they have systems that punish you for failing like the m+ dungeons afaik whereas ff does not. I mean i mainly play ff for the story so i don't really care whether people like or don't like act but if i was doing harder content i definitely wouldn't be doing it without act.

  3. when I played wow, I used it mainly to check my overall damage whereas my wife plays more casually and is not a hardcore raider so it made it hard for her as they would give her the " you're not doing this much you got to go " and that was on just standard runs. So, when we came over to FF and there was no damage meter, she was happy as she didn't feel pressured to do X amount of damage she only had to focus on her rotation and have fun. I don't think meters are generally a bad thing people will make them a bad thing as some might use it to give the " you have to do this much damage, or you can't go " speech

  4. DPS meter is a must in every competitive matter ….. repeat : "COMPETITIVE" matter . We play video games …. PLAY …. . GURL first and for all give me the adress of that moron posting that crap and says ur shit ill show him whos shit . Second : I eat food whilst doin dailys and other crap in all kinds of games i played the last 34 years … u really think i care bout peek performance ? Then there is the other story : Static and endgame "serious" gameplay … well i dunno bout FF but u dun get in a static when ur shit . To improve performance u need some tool to figure out what ur doin badly . U might not even notice if u play mostly solo for example or dun have friends to say "WTF man get ur ars up " . Im working dun have the time to figure out stuff from my own and weekends isnt enough time . I watch youtube vids from ppl living off of that and showing rotations and when to do what in all kinda situations . Those greedy devs never implement such tools cause they know someones gonna make one and they save money but never confirm that it doesnt hurt the terms , cause maybe they gonna implement it in the future in a paid update and then forbid the use of such implements . Worlds rotten dun feel bad bout urself chilling in a videogame … thats the first rule of enjoying urself : HAVE FUN !

  5. Are there no console players who clear the hardest content? I bet there are and they do not have access to ACT. It's a tool but not an absolutely necessary one. That having been said, I like the way things are now. You can use ACT "for your own improvement" as long as you don't harass other players about it.

  6. I don't know, I'm on console so I can't use one myself. However, my biggest improvements came from finding my logs that other people had posted.

    It was eye opening to see how much damage I was leaving on the table compared to other people in the same role. I went from 50% on fflogs to 80-90% almost instantly just by looking at myself compared to others.

  7. I think people mistake "grey area" as unoffical ok. All mods are against TOS. Yoshi-P is saying is that they aren't going to actively search for Mods. However if someone reports you for any reason due to a Mod (no matter what it does) You are in violation of TOS and can be banned. Grey area being while they aren't actively hunting for ACT user, if you are found using it, it's illegal and your totally at fault for breaking TOS.

    Personally i find it to be bullshit. The need to use meters or auto call outs is cheating. People say " i want it to improve myself" and yet they have the whole party on the list. Secondary uploading someone else's combat data to a third party web site is wrong. When did you get permission? People get so focused on a fake status listing they forget to enjoy the fight and become more whiling to to not do machanics just for a high score. These are all the same excuses that happen in WoW at the beginning. If you can't play the game as is, when why play at all?

  8. 8:00 I had this experience where a dps was constantly whining about not knowing their damage, and another player said theyd turn on ACT and tell them what their dps rank was. They told that dps that they were top. I could never know if that other player was telling that dps the truth or not and just wanted to have him stop talking about his damage, so all in all it didnt really bother me much.

  9. In my FC we use ACT. We're doing Savage progress (and before that Extreme Trials blind).
    It's really great if ACT is used to improve yourself.
    When you upload ACT logs to fflogs, you can use it then on xivanalysis to see exactly how good you're doing and what you're doing wrong and how you can do better.

    One of the improvements I did with it, is using Tinctures in the correct moment to get most from them.
    Before that I used it on Enshroud at the beginning (Yea, I'm a RPR) of the fight, and later somewhere in the middle.
    Now I know that when Tincture is off cooldown mid battle, I should save it for double Enshroud and fit both during the time of the Tincture.

    And every time we do something as FC, we make logs. If anyone wants to learn something from them, they are more than welcome.
    If someone doesn't want to look at logs, we respect that and don't even talk about how they did.

    Forgot to mention. We upload all the logs as unlisted. So it's only people with the link that can see it.
    And those logs are not included in character stats when you search for it.

    I started using Arm's Length when my boyfriend told me about it.
    And Ture North I'm using really often, as I'm too lazy to move all the time to change between 2 positions after using Gluttony, as Gibbet and Gallows require different position for potency bonus. So True North is part of my opener with Arcane Circle, Shadow of Death and Soul Slice + Gluttony.

    LAST EDIT:
    I really like the medal idea. Imagine that in Duty Finder, next to each Duty you have slot for medal and it shows you your highest acquired medal for that Duty, that only you can see and no one else.
    And then there could be some kind of achievement with maybe a minion (or a mount) reward for getting all the Gold (and you could get for example Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum medals) from the expansion.
    Personally, I'd try to get it in every Duty. I think it could even reduce some queue time for the dungeons/trials (and mostly extreme trials) from the old content, as people would try to get the medals, and would have reason to go back there.

  10. I've actually developed a dislike for parsing since as you experienced, people will use it to target other players when their performance isn't top game. Which throughout the years, I've seen good players that play poor due to anxiety when joining a prog or pre-made PF.
    Which then a good bad joke tends to help them relax and improve, since they are scared of failing a mechanic and taking everyone with them (since you gotta love those stack AoEs).

  11. I use ACT and callouts but for things that are old contents only. I have been playing FFXIV since beta and I have cleared every dungeon, trials, and raids there are with highest difficulties during its relevancies. So, I feel like I have earned the use of the callouts for the old content. Whenever I go into roulettes or doing old stuff for reclears/farming, ACT callouts are there for my reminder.

ACT is… tough.. for improvement it's definitely important, I'll usually start running it once I get near the end of a patch and I go through tuning my gear-set for min/max and just making my rotation efficient. On the flip-side… Yoshi-P is right, it'll definitely cause toxicity problems and keeping it in this "gray" area and perhaps throwing a few suspensions here and there should keep it in the background.

    I think… what would be "good" is a personal damage meter that just shows "<Rank>/<Rank Count> <DPS> <Damage Done> <Duration>", don't show any player names just show where I am stand related to others.

  13. I don't get it, i don't play with mods, i also don't play in groups/fc's.. it's all toxic to me, could care less…
    I get and side with yoshi on mods… just dont use them, it's a fricken game!
    but at same time, whining about people using mods… yet you have a caller in your party telling you when and where to move, even if that caller isn't using mods, they just know by heart… whats the difference?
    Taking the fun out the game and basically controlling your movement instead of you learning on your own.
    I mean skills are self explanatory if you read them, if you care about improving, read your skills, learn your rotations, learn boss strats by doing

  14. My take is: mods are tools and the tools themselves are neutral. Their usage is where the issue (if any) lies. I run act to measure my own performance in order to improve. Nothing else. I also use the "dbm-like" extension as it alleviate my high anxiety knowing, that if I get confused (which happens a lot), I can rely on it to not be a burden on the rest of the group. I find enjoyment in group successes and not in thinking how smart I was in figuring out a mechanic.

  15. Coming from being WoW Player since Vanilla, i really find it so enjoyable to not to worry about this bullshit of having specific types of addons to actually play the game. It's such a bad game design to have a need for this type of stuff. And to think that the players wont getting more toxic, especially with all these ex wow players and their toxic mentality coming into ff14, when performance based addons like dps meters will be officially implemented or allowed is just pure naivety. Why do numbers matter so much? If i clear a dungeon, trial or whatever type of content it may be, the group and myself did a good job. Why does it matter if the other healer healed more or that i am not the top dps. And not knowing how to use your toolkit is the players problem in the first place, for being too lazy in reading the tooltips and do some research. There are so many good guides for every job, that alone can help you improve and the rest is practice, practice and more practice. I personally hope that the developers stay with their current take on third party tools, especially tools like dps meters that can be used to harrase other players, which will absolutely happen.

  16. Only 13 minutes in but you can opt-out of fflogs if you don't want to be tracked. Just have to make an account, claim your character through the claims process and opt that character out.

For me we need a dps/heal meter if i don't use it i feel like i was painting a picture but i couldn't see the colorsof it, i have a general idea of what i'm doing but i don't know if i'm doing it well. Regarding the toxicity problem, the dps / heal meter should only show your stats to you and not those of others.

  18. I'm a very anxious player already and if they implemented this officially I seriously would not want to be doing any sort of random matched parties or high level content. Like yoshi-p said, pfs with prove this number would definitely pop up, you'd also probably get random vote kicked for low dps. And honestly I don't know why theres such a focus on you've got to do as much damage and finish the content as quickly as possible… but why? What happened to just enjoying it?

  19. I used them in WoW more as an indication of how I was doing. I sometimes miss that in FF14 but honestly its kind of nice not having the pressure either. Let me get in, do my 1-2-3s, hit my shinies when they are up and get out.

  20. its really hard to tell if you are improving or if you are forming bad habits without act. it can also be an eye opener. a lot of people think "yeah I'm good". meanwhile parsing grey, but when you see that you think to yourself wow i need to improve, you look up rotations and proper openers, it feels great to watch yourself get better and it becomes a tool of self improvement.
    also damage checks are so low now, even in the current savage tier. being able to do mechanics is more important than damage so no-one will really give you shit over it

  21. I don't mind how ACT has been working in the community for the most part. I have played several games that allow dps meters and it always, always, always leads to problems. A good example is in SWTOR, lots of classes can clip moves and this leads to a shocking increase in DPS. Problem is properly clipping moves is a skill that requires lots of practice, an amount that a casual just isn't going to or flat can't put in.

    I'll also add that at large, the JP community has a focus on doing things the way they should be/are supposed to be done. You don't see as many wall to wall pulls, they practice rotations, they theorycraft like mad. All in all it's just a different mindset and approach to solving the same problem.

  22. I have mixed feelings on ACT. I fully support the official FF14 approach of saying they're not allowed, and actively banning people who are known to use them to bully people. But they are also useful for personal improvement. I use one when I'm practicing a new job so I can work on my own skills, and sometimes just to get a glimpse of where I fit in. If I'm top DPS then I figure I don't need to change anything up, but if I'm really low then maybe it's time I went and looked up some guides or hit the dummy for a while to work on things.

    Often when I've had it turned on for something I won't bother closing it – and then doing regular dungeons or old content it's always fun to see some DPS pulling insane numbers and thinking "Damn this DPS is awesome" and throwing them a commendation. DPS need all the commendations they can get!

    So I guess.. DPS Meter: Useful when used as a personal improvement tool. Awful when used as a bullying tool. I fully support suspending people using them to belittle others, but I like that it's a 'grey area' so I don't feel horrible about using one to improve myself.

  23. Current system is the best re: DPS meters. I've ZERO interest in a meter. It chased me away from WoW. It has no significance to most casual players and any implementation would cause division in the community. Current system lets those who want it to go find it, those who don't want it don't have to hear about it.
