  1. Google trends for game popularity literally makes no sense. WoW and Blizzard were constantly googled due to the sexual harrasment lawsuits and other news surrounding the studio.

  2. FFXIV always has a que which means it's being played a lot more. Whenever you are doing dungeon or raid content there are always people doing them. Wow is dying and apparently they are giving in to player demands. Yoshi has the pulse of his players while blizzard cares very little of their players. All they want is money

  3. If you enjoyed asmon’s playthrough, you have to check out Quazii. The absolute most wholesome guy. His passion for the story is contagious. He has about 60 videos of just MSQ playthrough and I’ve watched each of them at least twice

  4. This video of his is so bad it is not even fun to watch again. For starters, he has no idea how SEO works, so he puts a handful of words and look at graphs and takes conclusion. Words with no context does not tell you anything – and can backfire: what if those searches are of players that have no idea how to play the game the Blizzard way? After all, you have to level so many things before you can even begin raiding/doing M+, anyone that has not played for the past 5-10y will be searching around. Then there's all other drama around the company. Plus, "what if" there are less folks searching about FFXIV because they are busy, I don't know, playing the game?

It was a waste of time and bandwidth to hear him moaning words and pretending to know what he was talking about.

  5. an easier take to explain all of this is:

"Google trends is good if you know how to use it and tracks interest (good and bad), maybe popularity, not engagement, playerbase, happyness."

FF14 just doesnt give too much to talk about, look at bellular, there is so much shitte happening every week at blizzard/acti, 90% its bad which people engage more. and its not FF14 being boring, its FF14 doing ok with minor problems and not much drama around.

  6. I think WoW more known for sure. I played since beta and left after legion for ffxiv. What i see was, being/judged more anime-ish ffxiv has less audience and many people directly crossing its name. There's also intimidating "14" on it which was the reason i skip till now even i knew it's an independent game beside some references etc.
    Traffic-wise,
You don't want to get spoiled for story and in-game questions are mostly answered by FC or mentors or random strangers even. Compared to ffxiv, at WoW you need to search almost everything, if you don't own book you need to search for lore and most people don't give a damn about your plea most of the time.
ffxiv don't have a datamining while in WoW it's a pretty big thing, so every patch your search traffic will go up even more.
Blizzard also owns few of giant franchise so if you search them you can find yourself in WoW page too, that's also a traffic gain for 'em i think.

  7. Would I rather play a game from a company plastered in headlines for bad things? Or a company you don't hear a peep about? Does Pillars of Eternity or XCOM suck? Cause I doubt anyone googles them.

  8. Because it was brought up, WoW is also the abbreviation for World of Wonder, the production company behind RuPaul’s Drag Race. International versions of the show can be watched on that app. Granted, people will search for other drag race terms before that one, but that’s just an example of other reasons people might search for WoW on its own, and I’m sure there are others.

  9. Using google analytics to gauge a playerbase or popularity is the exact opposite of what I’d do.

Everyone is googling WoW when they don’t play wow, because of lawsuits, breastmilk thieves, and the Microsoft acquisition. The game itself requires a lot of google searches because nothing is explained in game. I can’t tell you the last time I went to google to look up something in FFXIV.

Very irrelevant data thats also unfair for comparison.
