  1. Oops! I forgot one thing about targeting. if you hold L1 and press left or right on the dpad you'll cycle through other the players in other alliances(which is really good for rezing if an alliance is down)

  2. The reason why controller is still not the best option for Endgame content is, you are always about to switch out ur view of skills. If a player doesn't have a good sense of time, then they need to checkout the skillcooldown by constantly switching back and forth, leading to distraction of playing mechanics of the Boss.

Even with placing hotbars with skill that can be constantly checked for cool downs, having screen filled up with unnessecary more hotbars is contra-productive. Using macros in a way of targeting teammembers/enemies, carrying out combatskills in succession without delay can also lead to losing several gcds during an entire match.

Personally speaking, controllers performance is better when there aren't much skills to be used, for example on SGE/WHM/SCH/WAR. Perhaps you also realized that.

However, your guide opens opportunities perhaps for one or the other player to perform better. So good job on that.

  3. I didn't know you could hold L1 and go up and down the enemy list, that is going to be so helpful for pulling stragglers or applying dots.

My personal setup, I can fit everything on the cross and wxhb, then I make the expanded hotbar a shared hotbar for universal things, like sprint, mount, chocobo stances, food, go to emotes. Then I have one separate hotbar I switch to by simply tapping R1 with my weapon out, that has all the aoe versions of skills on the same spots, as wellvas duplicates of anything I'd also use during aoe. So I make sure to put more universal things on the wxhb, since it doesn't change when I switch to my aoe hotbar, such as movement abilities, role actions, or skills that are used in both aoe and single target, like Enshroud on RPR.

  4. I'm not sure if you mentioned it or not, but another hot bar option is to be able to switch from Dpad + buttons / Dpad + buttons, to Dpad + dpad / Buttons + Buttons. For me, that was something I had to change right off the rip once A Realm Reborn released, because for what ever reason, my brain kept getting confused with the default style. With the default style (basically right controller left controller) being Dpad + buttons / Dpad + buttons, whenever I'd want to use a skill I'd have set to say, R2/RT + Up, I'd end up pressing L2/LT + Triangle/Y for some reason or another.

SO for me being able to swap that around was a real game changer

  5. Your voice over is way too low in comparison to the BGM and often sounds muffled. But I appreciate this video nonetheless. I'm trying to convert my BF from M/K to Controller.

  6. Two useful tips:
#1) If you use the "double tap" option to access the second crossbars (which you should), it might be awkward to do so with L2/R2 if your controller has trigger-like shoulder buttons (like all PS5 controllers). A way to work around it is to remap the controller layout by switching L1 and L2 (and R1 and R2). Double tapping normal shoulder buttons is easier and quicker. Of course, that means that all of your shoulder buttons related command (such as enemy list cycling) get remapped too.
#2) Make a Sprint macro, place it in Macro slot #99 and map it to either R3 or L3: it's an intuitive way to use sprint during raiding and it saves a crossbar slot.

  7. This was super helpful as a veteran coming back to the game and having to redo all my hotbars… again… it's gonna work differently for me, because I main WHM, but, at the very LEAST you gave me things to think about and reminded me of some basic QOL controls i had forgotten. so thanks 😀

  8. 9:43 Thank you!! I was trying to figure out a way to pick out any strays from trash pulls who may slip my aggro as a tank on controller. I didn’t think it was possible. Even made a macro to tell my party at the start of dungeons “I can’t point and click a target, so run to me and let my AoE grab the aggro again.” This is going to be a VERY useful change!!

  9. A great guide! I definitely learned some new tricks, particularly in the "Targeting" section of the video. One thing that really helps me declutter is using the option to have it swap sets depending if my weapon is Out or Put Away. So a set can be a shared hotbar with your "stuff" like Chocobos, Teleporting, Emotes, Minions or whatever you want! I see in in the video that you have the option on, so I'm assuming you use it, but I don't believe you mentioned it. Sorry if I just missed it!

  10. As a M+KB player, I don't consider myself an elitist, honestly. Quite the opposite, honestly. I have the highest respect for people who play on Controller because that is some sort of arcane wizardry that I will NEVER understand how to do. My brain just isn't wired like that LOL

  11. After all of this what a take out of it is… I'm still the superior player by default, just because I use a corsair k100 and corsair scimitar elite.
And it's just the end of that.

  12. Target filters are very important if you play multiple roles. When im a dps and my weapon is out; i can only target/tab enemies. for my healer filter, it only targets party members but i can tab to enemies. When my weapon is away it targets anything but player character.

  13. Man this could have been such a helpful video but you put a bunch of loud music over your very difficult to hear voice during the section that made me stop using controller, targeting. Please sir I'm begging you, for the sake of future viewers, learn what a compressor is and how to use it in your video editing software. One goes on your voice to make your loudest inflections as quiet as your softest ones, then turns your entire normalized signal up louder, and one goes on your music track to duck the volume whenever you're talking.

Sincerely, I was so looking forward to this video when I saw it, hoping I could learn a way to more effectively target and get back into controller again, but I just can't understand what you're saying due to the poor audio decisions you made.
