  1. After the fantastic design of Dancer, I was excited to see how easy to play Reaper would be. FF14 team did a great job designing it can't wait to play it though I'm a PLD main player.

  2. So there's one thing I don't get about Reaper's Soul Gauge abilities. LEt's assume Gluttony is off Cooldown and you have 100 Gauge, say after using both Soul Slices in the opener, so you don't have these either.

You go Gluttony > Gibbet > Enhanced Gallows (this spends both Soul Reaper stacks and leaves you with 50 gauge) > Unveiled Gibbet (spending your last 50 gauge and giving another Soul Reaver stack) > Enhanced Gibbet (0 gauge and 0 Soul Reaver stacks).

HOWEVER, by using Enhanced Gibbet you've procc'd Unveiled Gallows, but can't use it because you have no Soul Gauge any more. Is that actually how this ends up working, because having a proc just drop off because you can't use it doesn't feel right to me. I feel like there's one final piece I'm missing here…

  3. Me: "going to level as much as I can to pick a main. Definitely won't be reaper. Everyone is going to play reaper"
Also me after all of today's reaper vids: "yeah, that's my new primary"

  4. Realtalk I think people undersell Arcane Crest. Not like it's gonna be some super healcheck-breaking 'every week one prog group is gonna need this' move, I just think it actually sounds super goddamn nice compared to most mitigation tools other DPS have. Like, okay, let's go down the list:
Mantra needs coordination with the healers. Realistically you just press this in response to the biggest raidwide in a given 90 second span and it catches some healing, but it's actually kind of difficult to get real mileage out of it on purpose and not just get trampled over with overheal.
Shade Shift, Manawall, and Not-Earthen Armor are all just big personal shields, and yes that can be nice for panic-surviving mechanics in case of pug-based disaster, or specific strats in an Ultimate or something, but you're using it in an extremely on-purpose way in those cases, you're sitting on them for minutes at a time and most of the time they're gonna just make the next Medica II count toward overheal.
Samurai's Third Eye is barely mitigation, it's a DPS mechanic, move right along.
Magick Barrier or whatever RDM's new cooldown is called is amazing, but functionally it's just a Ranged DPS' mit cooldown with upside on a slightly longer cooldown. You find the correct time to use it with your healers and it's gonna be super good to have, but it's something we've seen before.

Arcane Crest, meanwhile, is literally out here with a 30 second cooldown for a 10% shield– which is not negligible when you're in Maiming armor, mind you– and then when it breaks, and it will because why else would you press it, it gives *everyone*, yourself included a decent regen. 500 total potency over 15 seconds is actually better than one of the pulses of Curing Waltz, and only slightly weaker than both, and you get to do it twice as often. And, unlike Curing Waltz, it's got a 15y radius which means it's literally gonna be harder than not to whiff anybody. Speaking as a Samurai with a Third Eye addiction, being able to do that every 30 seconds could feel GREAT to soften up basically every raidwide or every other raidwide in a given fight, which would take a lottttt of stress off the healers, and you're not even thinking about it, it's literally free for you. This class is light on weaves anyways.
I'm just saying, give it respect, it's a sick as hell button.
