I think ppl took the reference that Zepla was a WOW player and with the title that said worst expansion could include that game expansion maybe? EW it´s my favourite exp with the changes to pvp, Island Sanctuary, the normal raids and crafting-gathering content, still have to try criterion and Orthos.
Yeah it's the common thing of someone opinion and misconstrued into something big when it isn't like that at all. FFXIV always had downtime like this it not even new. Players are just having the uproar about it's "dying" when it's not. The devs are in the works in content for patch to patch releases while behind working on Dawntrail to slowly progressing, revealing leaks, and evolution of the new additions in the game. So tired of people wishing way too much into the game when they've been trying to as it is to push new content and figuring out what content to implement to keep players engage during downtime. It's not easy. They already listen to the playerbase as it is by others complain about too much of the savage book/gear grind is too much and when they make it less it's still an issue. Yoshi-P and the team isn't the issue because they taking their time into their craft into making the game perfect as possible for all sorts of players. At the end of the day SE can't please everyone and that's fine! SE doesn't force you to stay if you don't like the downtime and it's fine. Zepla's opinion isn't bashing the game she just personally feels this expansion was lacking in certain things compared to the other expansions and I have a similar take of that opinion as her. All love Pathra for the video! <3
Nah,zelpha knew what she meant and now wants to back track cause it is her bread and butter.ff14 content creators do make thier titles click bait and we know most people dont watch and jist read the title.zelpla not only looks differnt but acts different aswell, dont care about her opinion anymore, the old zelpla wouldnt do click bait but the new,wig wearing, slanted eyeline wearing zepla would
I have to say, many of the FFXIV community are very snowflake-y, and CANNOT for the life of god, accept or listen to criticism towards a game they play. NOT create, play. Like… why so fragile? 🙄
Its also funny to say unsub when we own houses and fc house this will vanish
I think Zepla is click baity, I actually unsubscribed from her. Her opinions on the game are heavily skewed to someone who has way more time to play FFXIV than most FFXIV players, therefore she has "nothing to do". Also her opinions on other things really annoy me, sometimes pandering to stupid policies enforced by YoshiP, and defending the narcissistic side of the savage/ultimate raiding community.
I think Xeno said it best, people are making these type of content ("ff14 is dying") because they're bored and personally have nothing to do now that we're at the end of the patch cycle, so they need content.
This is their content.
People leave this game all the time and come back, but most people dont feel the need to announce it to the world.
Lastly, I don't think you'll find anyone who doesnt think EW is light on lasting content. People do have issue with the obvious bait, the "doom and gloom" type of videos though.
Drama and snowflake behavior like this in the community is the heart of the problem that ACTUALLY drives people away.
Multiple friends over the years gave this as an argument to not play this game.
If you're so far into the game's bubble with your head, that this stuff matters.. than you probably have to tune your life's priorities.
Lastly.. are these people new to the internet or marketing practices in general?!
Empathy and mutual respect goes a long way..
I don’t like EW either
Eh I think Zepla is bullshitting, her video could have easily been called “a critique of endwalker” or something less reactionary.
When influences say something is dying the help it to die!
someone get the teacher, the content creators are fighting on the playground again lmao
People just didn't want to take the time to watch it. Like most things these days. As different as she is these days, she's pretty spot on about Endwalker. We're in a 9-5 cycle with the game. And if you accept that, it's still a good game. But Square Enix is fumbling so much. They need to make it more accessible. The Account system is dreadful. ARR is dated. The NPC potato sack garb & stiff emotes are old. The execution of cutscenes is dull. The bosses are reused assets while also being stiff. RMT say spam 24/7 in cities. People are still using addons to cheat on Savage, Ultimates & PVP. Seems like everyone and their mother is using "Mare." Housing is only "fixed" because of having to stay subbed. Saving the good glams for cash shop. The game needs a deep cleanse badly or the divide is only going to build.
a couple of things:
1) I admit perhaps I misjudged the intentions behind the thumbnails, but it's hard to know if they would be the same without the system we have on youtube where hyperbolic titles are what bring in the money, but I cannot read minds so what they say may be true to their heart. I do believe there are small ways we as individuals (both creators AND viewers) can work together to fight against that sort of trend. This is simply a point people can agree to disagree with, it's just a difference in philosophy at that point.
2) I do not have any delusions that I am some sort of authority on content. you're right, they can do what they want. just as well, people are also allowed to voice feedback as to what they believe can be done better for content creators as well as the platform as a whole, as that was all I was doing. people are free to criticize, and it is not a personal attack. They are free to ignore it, and that is not an attack against the person giving criticism. I had no ill will or intent in my wording as they are my genuine feelings on what can be done on an individual level for the betterment of the platform, the viewers, and discussion on topics that are attempting to inject nuance and reason.
3) criticism against a colleague or friend is not a bridge burning. if I see even a friend doing something I feel needs to be worked on, I care enough about letting them know how they can be (in my eyes) better. And yes, that is also subjective and an opinion, not a declaration of authority. It's also just feedback that can be ignored without any personal attacks assumed from either side.
4) I also have no delusions that by calling attention to "click bait drama engagement" I have sadly participated in it, even if it is a criticism. I have been practicing what I preach for the entire 5 years I've been on YouTube, but I want to encourage other creators as well in attempts to make change on a larger scale, as some of them are my peers and may be willing to listen.
I mean to be fair, Kou tends to do super exaggerated titles. He's more of the theatrical sort I've seen. So it all fits for him.
But honestly? I DO think content creators should put more thought into their titles. They're not ignorant of how many fans they have. People will ALWAYS take opinions as facts. And tons of people will not have an opinion until someone they idolize makes one. It's just part of being in a community of any type. Personally I would've named the initial video "My Opinion of Endwalker".
It's one of the reasons I like your videos. The title tells me exactly what I'm gonna be hearing about.
I'm with Jocat on this one. The criticism is valid, but the clickbait thumbnails had a huge role in exaggerating genuine criticism into the "game is ruined" shitshow we have online right now. Add a couple of 0s to the number of views and you get a ballpark of the number of people who saw just the titles and thimbnails. The thumbnail have a drastically bigger reach than the much more nuaced discussion in the videos.
14 isn’t dying but I agree the content doesn’t hit as hard as Stormblood and Shadowbringers post expansion patches. The content is there but there’s stuff they could do to reinvigorate the post patch content.
🍿
Streamer influence definately exists, but its not their responsability, but I also understand why people would be upset for the reason it can sway others. How often have we thought about trying a game and a few of your favourite streamers say its trash before your purchase so you change your mind? Or it effects how you play the game because of the shift in community if they have a huge following in your gaming community.
Oh no it's over everyone. Just make sure you give me your gil and houses on the way out. I watched many of these videos fully. Apparently the argument is we can't include liking the story or not. That part of streamers takes is the part that bothers me. MSQ is just the center of the game even if you branch out.
SUCH CONVERSATION! THIS WAS NOT MY INTENTION
It wasnt her video, it was all the other creators with zero creativity jumping on the waggon and inflating it. New players in the comments of those videos have taken away that the game is dying!
They are 100% clickbaiting to give that vibe. If her video was on her oppinion, why does her thumbnail have a load of "off line" player icons in the back, insunuating people arent playing… if people arent playing we'd assume the game is dying.
I honestly don't understand the pearl clutching about clickbait on Youtube. Most normal human beings talk to each other using hyperbole, the idea that content creators aren't allowed is just plain weird.
Like, why are people using Kougan as an example of 'bad' clickbait with a straight face? Kougan has always used hyperbolic, over the top titles. More than half of his content is outright satire. It's part of his sense of humor. It is baked into Kougan's content, the funny police need to leave the man alone.
As for Zepla, her titles were fine. I think some people just got really sensitive to see Zepla of all people say something negative. It shows a lack of proportion. Like Xeno said, FF14 is a 10/10 game, calling one of its expansions the worst doesn't mean its bad, it can still be a 9/10 and be the 'worst'.
Listen guys, the game IS kinda boring right now. It's okay, the game is still good, we're all looking forward to the next patch and expansion. Nobody has to get mad at each other while we're sitting in the 6.5 and 7.0 waiting rooms.
This seems to be a "Don't hate the player, hate the game" type of situation. JoCat may not like it but Youtube heavily incentivizes that creators use click-bait to drive views to their content, as is almost every other single platform now days. It's just how it is. It's been that way for years and it's likely never going to stop. I see it the same as billboards when I'm driving down the road. I pay no mind to any sort of bland looking designs but the ones that are flashy and eye catching will, at the very least, peel my eyes from looking at the ass of the car in front of me enough to look at the billboard itself (though I'm still not likely to buy the product/service)
Content creation is highly competitive, and you need to use whatever tricks and tools you can in order to farm engagement and views because THATS HOW YOU GET PAID!
Also, it's not clickbait if your title/thumbnail is actually a part of the video in some way.
I cannot count how many "funny memes that make you …" where the thumbnail picture is a dog doing something that never shows up or there's a hand with massive boils all over it that also never shows up.
To say Zepla used clickbait was such a reach that dude could nail a slam dunk from half court without his feet leaving the ground.
EVERYONE SHUT UP, my favorite telenovela started!
zeplas a lil gremlin
The issues in endwalker started in shadowbringers. It is when they started making most of the content so casual and brain dead that I got more excitement out of candy crush. While running dungeons for example as a Tank all i had to do was spam 2 abilities and i would hold agro forever. There was no need to dodge AOEs in fact AOEs make it so that enemies do less damage because their basic attacks do more damage than the AOE they charge. Hell with the gear I had and the potency of healers dodging AOEs was meaningless anyway.
Here's my casual perspective is a newer player….
Dragon Ball Z fans got the same feeling going from cell Saga to Buu saga… Compared to the last it was wacky and zany and overall freaking mid.
While it's up to the content creator, Individuals of a certain level of status (In all Communities/Arenas) have to be more mindful about what they say or how they voice their opinions because It WILL create ripples of unintended effects. It sucks but that's what happens by default when you up your fame level, whether it's in an Online community, Politics, in the hood, etc. She's Hella Irresponsible, but I didn't expect someone that cried literally threw a tantrum online about not getting a virtual house like a child to be the Beacon of responsible decision making in the first place. It's like she never grew up or something…
Yoshi P left the classroom and now the Class is in chaos XD
This is the normal cycle of FF14 where everyone starts to freak out/get restless once content tapers off before the next expansion. Happened in HW, SB, ShB, and now EW; Saving this for 2-3 years from now once 7.0 is done and we have this same conversation.
Regarding clickbait, not sure if this is the case with said topic (and really not gonna go down that rabbit hole), but it's no secret that spicy/negative topics get clicks on YT.
Zepla must have forgotten she admitted it was a clickbait title in one of her follow up videos and said she did it for views because less dramatic titles don't get as many views. How dumb she forgets her own words. She said about the title of that video, "YouTube titles are rough. It is hard. You don't want to make a title that is 'The Endwalker Post-Patch Experience was less interesting than usual.' Nobody's going to click on that. Obviously you need to be somewhat interesting to click on or nobody's going to watch it at all."
LL 68, Yoshi P straight up gave us the road map post Endwalker launch,he said no exploratory zone this time but will look towards next expansion (Dawntrail) he literally told us everything that is coming in patch 6.1 to 6.5, i know the biggest complaints are the rewards for VC Dugneons have been lackluster as well as the relics not being grindy or engaging enough to do, i agree with literally everything Xeno pointed out in his video but like i dont get why people are surprised with what we got, for those that saw that LL he straight up told us what to expect, hopefully next expansion all the feedback and criticism they got from endwalker will be put into it so that we all have awesome content to enjoy. Personally ive been playing others stuff after doing my weekly reclears, seeing content like this isnt new to me after playing this game since ancient times, literally nothing will ever beat Heavensward post launch in my opinion 😂
I feel that everyone is on the same page, discussing fair and valid points of the flaws in the game.
I just think that how everyone is addressing these points are coming off as 'foreign' to others where they interpret it a different way.
I do agree the flow of people leaving the game and coming back is a natural flow for the majority of games. MMOs or otherwise.
Within the recent months some AAA titles of games people who have been waiting for have dropped and so a lot of players have their minds occupied with these games or other things. Especially if their personal life is demanding their attention. I don't believe the game is dying since we're still getting content. And then the big expac next year. So, it's just kinda go with the flow. That's my thoughts anyways.
I mean Zepla isn't wrong, for me personally Endwalker was a huge dissapointment as well, specially the lack of content we had in Shadowbringers like relic grinds, instances like Zadnor and Eureka i always loved grinding that stuff..
FFXIV players are so bored of their favorite game that they jump at any opportunity for acting the protecting hero IRL when anybody has anything remotely negative (and most times valid) to say about the game
All the WOW streamers used this game for money then left🤣 I feel dirty now😢joke fx um
Zepla not causing a ruckus every expansion challenge impossible
I honestly like this conversation and find myself feeling differently than how I feel watching drama videos. a public interaction of two people trying to understand each other and themselves, and how their opinions fit together. idk it's fascinating to see and I wish it was more normalized or viewed more neutrally. clickbait for the most part doesn't bother me, I think it depends on the type of content and the tone your content tends to have. Kougon using clickbait ironically doesn't surprise me at all, and I knew it was ironic because I have watched his content before. heck, I even made clickbait titles and thumbnails for my bf's vids, because the tone has been consistently upbeat and chaotic and anyone who knows us would pick up on it. I can see how it might throw some people off though.
