  1. My personal issue with the 2 minute meta in FF14 is that even though it exists, the classes aren't very well setup for it. This is particularly evident in melee/tanking (which I usually play) where you either have to drop skills or add in filler attacks to fit into the 2 minute meta, instead of just having a nice, flowing rotation. That's my experience, anyway.

  2. If they made a raid-wide buff more visually apparent, like a distinct effect on the feet, sides, or over the head of your character, they wouldn't have to make all the buffs be 2mins for the "learning" players. TBH though, the likely major reason why they want the 2min burst window is they want player damage output more predictable so they can craft more consistent experiences with timing mechanics to moments to music and checks.

  3. FF14 does a lot of stuff right, but the biggest complain you'll hear is the lack of hardcore challenging content. The game definitely has challenging content, but FF14 is a game that wants you wanting more.

I dont have a problem with the 2 minute meta, its easier for the devs to balance but personally i like the feeling of stuff just aligning naturally. No over frustration in trying to align stuff. The only thing you have to worry about is playing youre job right. Its a good feeling.

The one thing that they could tinker with though is giving jobs a bit more personality.

  4. What everybody forgets is that we did have to line up raid buffs before Endwalker.

Except before we lined them all up at 6 minutes in because none of them really lined up before then. So we had to actually delay our burst here and there, on purpose, in order to MAKE them line up.

The 2 minute standard does make it easier. I think if there was a hard visual indication of when a job enters their burst phase it might be easier to line them up.
This is low-key why i love playing with an AST in the group because the sound of the AST 2 minute dps raid buff lets me know exactly when we should be bursting, so long as he's using correctly.

  5. There's a couple of commonly cited issues with 2 minute meta; it's not very class diverse, it screws up DPS balancing because you have to balance around the idea that damage variance can vary wildly based on whether the group is syncing up uptime correctly or not (vs personal performance) upwards of +/-40% damage during burst, it makes catching up if you die very annoying based on class (from the perspective that it's not possible to "resync" easily), and it's not very interesting to optimize for people who are actually good at uptime. It's basically too punishing for lower level players and too uninteresting for higher level players, and divisive if your group is of varying skill levels (i.e., harder to get your good players to carry bad player's damage), from what I understand.

In theory, doing 2 minute synchronized burst was supposed to help casual players not worry about buff timings. In practice, casual players were not worrying about buff timings in the first place, as the number one thing that screwed casual players was uptime; it was the hardcore players that would worry about buff timings. 2 minute synchronized windows colinks buff windows to uptime due to resource generation, which means it punishes casual players for something they were already struggling with.
