Recently we’ve been talking a lot about what is considered canonical and what is apocryphal in regards to lore in Final Fantasy XIV. So here’s a look at how we dive into canon at Lore Lines!
No Namazu were harmed in the making of this video.

Looking at other long-lasting, successful series from Japan like Gundam and Pokémon for example. And they tend to have a more loose, fun-oriented outlook on canonicity. Compared to western fiction at least.
To me, the truest canon are the lyrics of Answers. The ideas held within it and its implications. Yoshida virtually always looked to them for guidance on where to take the story. Pretty much everything else is in creative flux to differing degrees.
Thanks for another great video Cobby!
Love how you presented this logic. I like to try to be up to date or in the know as much as possible with lore or canon. This video helps me understand better how to organize the information better.
One thing I do want to make note of is originals and remakes. Some original games would have large gaps of information missing or relatively light canon due to circumstances, but sometimes remakes add in fundamental changes or info without altering the plotline too heavily. This helps fill in gaps or recontextualizes original game information. However the rub is when there’s contradictory information that should be critical for the sequence of events. This explanation helps me make a judgment on which parts take precedence over the other.
Underrated channel. Keep up the good work.
