Between the Lines: How Lightning Returns Influenced FFXIV

Cobheran here! I finally made my way through Lightning Returns for the first time with the guidance of the incredible Shadowmeowth! While the game was new to me, the story I found within the game was very much not, shockingly so. Thank you to everyone who joined the streams and Shadowmeowth for guiding me through this massive world. Here I break down the similarities and outright identical themes and events and explore their significance in relation to the world of FFXIV.

Warning: This video contains a lot of satire

  1. Now I need to replay Lightning Returns…. Kinda hard to see Hope ad the Exarch parallel, though just because I dislike Hope's personality and am, yknow, desperately in love with the Exarch 😂

  2. Very good stuff once again! I am especially glad that someone in the XIV fanbase is giving this trilogy its credit. I've noticed it does not get discussed as much as it probably should in context of influential titles on XIV's world and story.

  3. I got FF13-3 on Steam for cheap. Downloaded it and watched the initial cutscene. The cutscene was so melodramatic and cheesy that I turned it off uninstalled the game. Didn't even give it a chance beyond the initial cutscene.
