Not a love interest between Gaia and Ryne but best friends. Gaia has and is waiting for Artemis her soul mate. Same reason why Graha isn't a love interest for the WoL nor Alisae. We as the customers can read into things a little too much at times. XD
An interesting thing to keep in mind about the exarch being Graha is that, if you play all the expansions together is obvious, but for the veterans it was not. Because he only appeared in one raid and then dissapeared, the people did not remmenbered him as clearly back in the day. So the reveal was more inpactful.
Read the lyrics to Tomorrow and Tomorrow, the song that plays during the scene where you kill Emet-selch. The writing in this expansion was truly masterful.
It has been interesting to see your condensed playthrough in terms of time. When i did shadowbringers I had to go back and play through the cutscene of crystal tower of mumble 7/8 years ago to remember who he was,. I think i would have guessed him too if i did each expansion in turn.
since you loved shadows of werly,t you should really play the warring triad. it'll expand a lot on important role with the voidsent. answering some questions you had in shb. it's basically hw's shadows of werlyt
Random note but important is that while We save the world we also put it in danger. We fight wars with ourselves and we cause Primals to be called to fight. From the outside looking in, we are all the same creatures tearing up the Aether and destroying the land. From Emet's perspective he gave a monkey a stick and watched it attack other, instead of finding a peaceful solution we grabbed rocks.
How dare you to not include our bestest catboy in your top three. Absolute atrocity. Downvote/unsub 🙂
Meh, I didn't take Elidibus as a child. I took his size to reflect the pieces of himself that he has lost. At the end, he couldn't even effectively remember what he "swore" and to "whom." I, also, took his size to represent a portion of himself since Zodiark requires a portion of him still as his heart. It has been drummed into us that the unsundered possessed the ability to pull slivers of a soul to fill the Convocation from the sundered. So, you have to assume they could do it to themselves as well. I don't think we've seen the last of Elidibus.
what an amazing expansion…
it threw wide the gates of my heart, and broke them clean off…I'll remember it forever, no doubt! ♥
Aww, I like Jeryk and his trolley obsession! He singlehandedly made me care about the trolley!
I felt Ran'jit was the weakest part of Shadowbringers. His story had lots potential, but I don't think it had a chance to be fleshed out.
Did u guys do Omega an Coils? I know Yoshi an ishikawa said they both should be played before endwalker. They're really good. Specially Coils
About Gra'ha, to be fair, your experiencie was very inmediate and obvius, but for a lot of us the last time we saw Gra'ha was 7 years ago (irl), and stuff gets fuzzy XD
11:00 a food for thought moment, if all the calamities we’ve gone through are single shards of our original world… how bad was the original calamity.
If you want a more understandable explanation of the elemental chart, Jesse Cox did a video about Astral vs Umbral
Another important thing to note is that when Shadowbringers released, Crystal Tower wasn't mandatory, so there were a lot of people going into the expansion having no idea who Graha was. I think a lot of the awkwardness you experienced was a result of them trying to find a way to write the story for both people who had and hadn't cleared CT.
If you want more Lahabrea, Elidibus, and Emet characterization, I would read "Ere Our Curtain Falls" on the Lodestone. It explains why Laharea is more cartoon villain while the other 2 feel like actual people and just fleshes out all three and their relationship a bit more.
Hopefully you didnt see 3 posts from me as I am assuming that youtube comments don't like links🤣
One thing about the writing that Bellular mentioned is how our main character choices, even though they're meaningless to the narrative, shape how we perceive our character to be and this investing us that much more into the story. His example was when Papalymo died… you choose whether to leave him or stay, not that it makes any difference to the outcome but it's that little bit of a choice that builds what sort of character you are and how it makes you feel towards the others. Superb writing.
Man…why you have to play my hillbilly lion dirty like that 🙁
I had always got the feeling Emet's like the protagonist in The Last of Us … where everyone got turned into "malformed" zombies, and stuck with a half-crazed Lahabrea, and an obsessed kid in the form of Elidibus while trying to survive and get their world back.
Oh yah, if you guys have the time check out the official website's additional short stories. There's a beautiful little piece (with possible lore hints) involving an interaction between Hades and Hythlodeus just prior to the end of their world.
In one of the conversations with Emet in between the MSQ when you just ask him, he confirms that the Ascians were tempered by Zodiark. Nice recap!
Going on an Ardbert tangent, you can get quite a bit more lore about his and the Warriors of Light histories by doing the Role side-quests. if you get at least one job for each role to level 80 and do all of the Role quests you get even more lore. I.e. one tank, one healer, one melee or ranged dps, and one caster. I'm super glad I did that side quest line since it wraps up a bunch of loose ends and has a few surprises.
I cant wait for u guys to do Coils of Bahamut. Story is amazing n it puts "Shines spotlight on Twins". Plus u get to know ALOT MORE of Original Story BEFORE Realm Reborn.
I did not know who Graham tia was even after the reveal. It was a side character from six years ago.
My understanding of the whole 'secret identity' of the Exarch was that he had to utilize all the smoke and mirrors he possibly could for his plan to work, because he had this absolute mastermind of 4D chess breathing down his neck, trying to cause the very thing the Exarch is trying to prevent. For his plan to succeed, Emet needed to be kept completely oblivious to what he was doing, and it wasn't until the very end that Emet figured it all out and obviously put a stop to it.
It's impossible for Raha to have dragged OUR remaning shards in, keep in mind, there are only 5 shards still around, Raha called in 7 ppl. He called champions, warriors of light perhaps, adventures with the strength to help, but not our own shards, there aren't enough "Player shards" left to call. 13 shards originally, 7 destroyed in rejoining, 1 is the void, Including Ardbert, we get 5 shards.
I forgot to mention one thing. Remember Azim Steppe from Stormblood and us being called Azem in 5.3? We're (were) literally Magnai's god. He truly is our "Little Sun." 😂
One thing I'd like to mention, the last time we (veteran 14 players) saw G'raha was 2015 (Patch 2.5).
So, It was a big surprise to see him again in Shadowbringers (2019).
Couple things to munch on while considering Emet and Elidibus: Most of the information given to us, the Third Astral Era supposedly started somewhere around 5000 years before the current time in game (Third Astral Era being when Emet founded the Allagan empire). The gap between that and the sundering unfortunately isn't, to my knowledge at least, documented anywhere but that's still a ton of time to just watch the world be just one disappointment after another.
Keeping on the thought of their longevity, while a lot of people seem to be at odds as to if Elidibus is a "child" or not (I personally subscribe to this idea due to the combination of JP voicing, physical size during his final scene, and his consistent white robes making me think they were meant to possibly represent childlike innocence and purity), it begs the question: For a people that live for near eternity, how long does childhood last?
In the case of each of them, I've always wondered how long they had held their respective seats on the convocation.
How is it that the exarch had so much trouble summoning you to the first, but can summon 7 other WoL right before the battle in an instant? That's the only contradicting event wich kept on my mind.
Personally I think that Emet had always known that he was altered, tempered by Zodiark, that he had always kind of known that what they were doing was wrong. But as he said in the 5.0 final trial, if he gave up on the mission, what will become of his people's hope and despair, so he had to carry on despite knowing that it was wrong. But the tiny part of his mind that remained clear and sentient led him to create Hythlodaeus, to give us the crystals so we can end it. Remember that he said that the ancients never had any negative emotions, but when the Exarch revealed his identity and we were about to turn, Emet was full malicious and wishing us to turn into a monster and slay all of our friends. When we defeated him for good, we also rescued him from the tempering, and he could return to the real Emet that was kind and nice. What Hythlodaeus left for us, was a reflection of the real Emet that had been buried under his ascian mask all along.
The reveal of the Crystal Exarch is more impactful depending on how long ago you went through the Crystal Tower storyline. If you just recently did it then it's like.. ok… whatever. But if it's been years from ARR to SHB, it's like… WOW!!!
I don't know if you've done the Stormblood 'Return to Ivalice' raids, but the quest hub for that raid series is a massive floating theatre that was commissioned by Emperor Solas, aka Emet Selch. So yeah, he's definitely a theatrical sort.
Very comfy camptfire shot, Cobrak.
The word that describes Feo Ul properly is Manic. Her mood swings back and forth so quickly that under normal circumstances it would be frightening, but as someone who proves time and again to be on our side, we just kind of accept it as "her schtick". I found her funny like everyone else, but at the back of my mind I remembered that if this little thing snapped, it would probably snap everyone's necks too, laughing the whole time. And Feo has the power to do so, too.
Btw I believe there is some side lore that Urianger tricked the pixies into running errands for him, stuff like “man I would be really annoyed if someone brought me coffee right now”
Knowing the previous FF games and considering that Japan isn't really big on homosexual relationships, I highly doubt it's a nod to LGBTQ
It's more a nod to the completion of restoring the land and an obvious definite nod to FF8
It's not even a theory that the Ascians were tempered, if you talk to Emet (for optional dialogue)…
either in Rak'tika or?in the Crystarium after that, he'll just straight up tell you so.Emet "becoming" Hades isn't really anything to do with primals at all. That's him reverting to his form as an Ancient (or an aggrandized version of it) – remember, the convocation members go by a title of their office, not by their name. Emet-selch is the title, Hades is his actual name.
On another note, you two are dressed in the colours of your preferred twins. Is that on purpose? :p
Some extra trivia. If you read the extra stories, it talks about Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeus. Emet’s ability, even back in the old era, allowed him to not only hear the souls in the Lifestream, but he can do more with them as well. You saw a version of this in the trial. In place of summoning the souls of his dead people, he summoned shades of them to have them empower his attack. I suspect he carried on the burden of his people because he really had no other choice. He can’t let all the suffering and despair go to waste. It’s all he had for those eons and can’t really stop. He can’t let it go without a fight.
Ok, this is a nitpick of amazing minority, but what Graha did at the end of 5.0 was NOT calling up our shards. Not from the present at least. Here's why.
There are 14 worlds created by the sundering. The Source (the world Eorzea is on, the main game world) and 13 reflections. There have been 7 successful Rejoinings up to this point. That's 7 shards deleted. The 13th got obliterated in the Ascians first attempt at a rejoining, so if there is a shard of us there, it's a voidsent. Ardbert was our local incarnation on the first, that's how he pulled that trick at the last and let us stand up and fight just prior, so that's our incarnation of the first merged back in.
That leaves us with 9 parts of our soul combined in us, and 1 part… permenantly indisposed. There are at most 4 more shards of the player character's soul unaccounted for. 7 Heroes were summoned. He did a more solid version of what Elidibus pulled later in 5.3, he summoned hero's from across TIME, in addition to from other shards.
Sorry for the rant, but I've been hearing this whole "duty finder is other versions of us" thing for a while, and if you aren't allowing for timey wimey shenanigans it's not possible. (The Crystal Exarch is very much timey wimey shenanigans)
I've noticed that ShadowBringers had most of the Scions repeat their best character momemnts/arcs
Alisae had to deal with a tempered friend like with Gabu
Thancred had to say goodbye to Minfilia in a way that he had no control over the situation
Urianger had to hide game changing knowledge and dealt with guilt of betraying his friends
Y'Shtola sacrificed herself for the greater good like in the end of ARR
G'Raha had to say goodbye to his hero and become with the Crystal Tower like in the Crystal Tower raids
Alphinaud didn't have his greatest moments repeated but that's probably because him being humbled by the Crystal Braves was pretty definitive
