Just for fun I think you guys should listen to the Japanese version of the froth and foam scene
Both of your thoughts about the shade were really interesting. At the time I played this patch I didn’t put any effort into trying to connect dots. You guys inspire me to try harder to think things through going forward 😁
The lights look unusually bright, i hope you two weren't too hot! great stuff as always!
As an Endwalker enjoyer my attitude towards everything post-6.0 was that I needed a vacation after saving the world. I wanted to enjoy the world I just saved, and maybe wrap up some loose ends. Casual aloha shirt glam and all.
Speaking of loose ends please don't forget the EW role quests as they tie into the MSQ a bit more than even ShB ones did.
It's not that it's bad, it's just done in a very slow and strange way, like your playthrough of dawntrail was a few patches of "Now lets wait/recover/come back later/shouldn't you go check up on the raid?"
Oh man. I am Loving the meal these guys are cooking in this vid! /chef kiss
I love the post game patches in Endwalker the post game patches post Endwalker are like a small scale expansion separate from the main game Endwalker stuff.
Anyone that complains about Endwalker being filler wasn’t around for Heavensward where the Warriors of Darkness were “filler”.
Give it time and the writers will bring it around.
There have been two major post patch series that where setup for expansions AFTER the next. Between post ARR setting up the Domans and The Shadowbringers setup with the Warriors of Darkness. The others where more like capstones to their expansions. This one feels like a preview of Dawntrail, setup for 8 or 9.0, and also a capstone of Endwalker in it's themes of life and adventure. I believe they are refining some things here, I just assume most people came off the tail end of Endwalker and don't know what to do with themselves.
That, and there's a significant amount of people who don't think Endwalker was all that great, but it's biggest mistake is following Shadowbringers.
Trying to avoid spoiler talk…
I think the reason there is a decent chunk of people who are less than impressed with Endwalker is a combination of the slower cycle and the start of a new tale. This patch cycle very much feels like the 'warriors of darkness' where it is a conflict but one that is kinda difficult to get into as it feels detached but is likely to be important down the road in an expansion or two. In fact, given certain optional scenes you can get, I'm seriously thinking something optional may become required content in the future as those storylines become MSQ material now.
Emet-Selch Bucket List:
Ruins beneath the waters of the Bounty – Check
Treasure islands beyond Blindfrost (North of Othard)
The fabled golden cities of the New World – Dawntrail
Sacred sites in the South Sea isles
Merycidia – Touched upon
The true nature of the twelve – In progress
Civilizations of the reflections – To the Void with us!
Making some good work on this, methinks
newfound adventure
I am a strong supporter of the 6.1-6.5 story. Some of it is because of my love of FFIV, but much of it is because of some of the characters in the story.
I think one thing people reacted to, perhaps subconsciously, is that Endwalker is when CBU3 went from a three-month patch cycle to a four-month patch cycle. It feels more content-sparse because new content is coming through more slowly. I still don't think that's bad because it lets me try other fun things without worrying about shorting my FFXIV experience.
Whenever I see dragon is landing rly good for me 🙂
It's great they also think that guys face is messed up. We all agree on this matter.
i kept hearing about the name change and never saw what it was and its like, the most side-grade ever. Creative Studio 3… I suppose it comes of a little less corporate…
I can't speak for everyone of course, but my dislike of Endwalker started with the original content, not the patches.
I didn't like the patches either but they're not the beginning of it.
Newfound Adventurrrre~~~
I love endwalker more or less all of it 6.1 was a slow start but you've gotta start somewhere
crunches on popcorn
In my experience, the XIV community (particularly on Reddit) has a bad habit of enshrining any opinion that gains any level of popularity, such that it becomes the "default", objective opinion.
"Stormblood is bad", "Haurchefaunt is the most important NPC to the WoL", "Endwalker doesn't have content", "'That, I can't deny.' is the only valid choice", etc
As soon as any of those opinions gained any sort of traction, it was no longer valid to believe anything but those things. Even today, any reddit thread that talks about enjoying Stormblood is still full of people saying you're wrong or crazy for feeling that way, which is nuts to me. I don't have any issues with people not enjoying EW as much as earlier expansions, but they need to understand that their opinions are no more or less important than the people that did enjoy it.
Watching 6.1 back, there are a LOT of places where characters catch you up on past events.
I'm assuming it's for the future plans to have a new player starting point after 6.0
I'm loving these openings!
A) I am sorry to inform you that Endwalker, as far as I know, does not have a Four Lords style trial series. Instead, we got two Ultimates. Sad, but I am happy for the Ultimate crowd.
B) As far as people not liking Endwalker, I think that that comes threefold. First, Zenos did not resonate with everyone, and he is literally the last part of 6.0. I loved Zenos as a foil to WoL, but some people just see him as a psychopathic dickbag who didn't die when he was killed. As such, him 'forcing' his way into the story may have soured their opinions on it. Secondly, as stated, as far as I know there is no trial series. There is also no Firmament/Eureka/Bozja equivalent. Instead we got more Ultimates, Island Sanctuaries, and Orthos (the new Deep Dungeon). These are relatively niche interests, I think. Even the END relic is tied directly to Hildibrand, another niche interest. If they are coming for burgers and get served sushi, even good sushi, I can understand why they'd be upset. Finally, 6.0 is the end of the Saga of Hydalaen and Zodiark, with the patch content the setting up our next chapter. Thus, I think some people are too quick to declare that X wasn't relevant when I feel they should be thinking X wasn't relevant yet. The writers have done splendidly to provide payoffs for just about everything in the past, but I think the community might be a bit too used to having the closure of payoffs versus the mystery of setups.
C) I do have future knowledge, so while I will do my utmost to continue with my initial impressions, those who are I noticed that the Shade's model has one hand almost coming off of the face, which read to me as while sorrowful and trying to hide from their reality, the Shade is not without hope. Based off of the line "And thus I am returned. To this world bereft of saviors." I speculated that it did not want to be in the thirteenth, and was hopeful to find a savior to help them escape, which explains why they were working with Zenos.
…so are we allowed to point out what parts of the patch content are obvious FF4 references? But this is fascinating to see them blunder past them unaware.
Bit surprised you guys heard so much negativity towards this patch, it was one of my favorites of this expansion's patches. The dungeon was also great, definitely top two.
I cannot wait for the 6.2 stream now. 😀
Ivolice is key lore to Bozja
Cool theories Cotton, let's see if it pays off for them. (I always love hearing your theory crafting and seeing how these wild swings are both right and wrong.)
42:32 – OMG, such Inscryption vibes. Really had to give Kudos to the insert gag 😀
I'm curious if you're going to come to the same conclusion I did at the end of 6.55…. won't give any more details until you're farther along.
FYI: Ivalice Raids need to be considered with the Bozja storyline, and that GREATLY improves their relevance.
I don't get why some people hate Endwalker. I really like it, including the patch MSQ parts. And the raids are just great, but the normal and alliance ones.
A "I like it less than Shadowbringer"? Yeah, I can understand that, but outright hate? Why? Then again there have been many a video that had something about hate or worst expansion ever as a clickbait title and/or thumbnail and then just expressed a mild disappointment in the actual video…
Anyway, it's not just the summoner job quests you might want to keep an eye on, but also the magic DPS Shadowbringer role quest and combined quest, and I guess the Thaumaturge and Black Mage job quests too, though to a lesser degree. They are all quite heavily revolving around void gates in some way or the other.
Lord, any time I hear someone say “the information and story provided in these patches is standalone not really leading to anything in the future” I feel like I lose my mind a little more. Every single time we have a major sidestory that does just that, it’s queued up something for the future. Warriors of Darkness patches, Zenos’s possession storylines, and so on. Even if it doesn’t come right away, it will likely come further in the future.
Very interesting takes on where this patch was slow. I can agree to an extent about the dragon politics being boring, but it would feel wrong to just jump into a new adventure and search for treasure for the fun of it while Thavnair is still suffering and there are families torn apart and livelihoods that were devastated. So, it feels like the story makes more sense to help them get back on their feet. It happened with Ishgard with the restoration and Doma and the game remembers if you helped with those. I can't wait to see your reactions when you do 6.2 tomorrow. I think it will be even better than you hoped for. It blew me away with where we go with the story. I LOVED the patches and I know there are some that didn't. So, enjoy and give us your honest opinions, as usual. I look forward to watching!👀
Neato!
Pretty sure all the patch content is setup for a future expansion, as well an homage to FF4
You guy's brought up bleach and Dragon Ball as examples of good and bad filler, but you didn't identify the biggest manga with the least amount of filler but troubling pacing problems, One Piece.
And I use this example because Oda and CBU3 both use things that seem trivial or out of place to help color and characterize their worlds. The Dragon Politics was a way to show how passionate and selfless Vitra is, where he is constantly thinking about the bigger picture of his people, taxes. And the needs of the individual, the orphans. This helps contrast his actions and desires when he's asking for help with something 'selfish'.
Opening a portal to the 13, right outside his city is really dangerous puts everything and everyone in danger, but he still wishes for his selfish request to be heard.
Vitra's character is so tied to his city, that it defines him on a personal level.
37:40 take a quess which patch it happens in, and take another guess at why ppl are so negative about 6.x msq
So Kyle believes the shade to be benevolent, or at least not evil, and a sort of kindred spirit/curious soul who’s seen the Source and wants to know more
Garrett sees an antagonist who remembers the world before the flood of darkness, who resents what the world has become and thinks poorly of “saviors.”
…interesting. Veeeeeeery interesting.
On the subject of D&D characters who don't care about money…
I was playing a Changeling rogue, and a friend was playing a Dwarf cleric of a money god. We got into an in-character argument over paying off some thugs because my character didn't care about money that much, and he was adamant about saving every copper. Eventually we were "yelling" at each other "What kind of rogue are you?!" "What kind of cleric are you?!"
It was great XD
You're not there yet, but come the .2 patch streams, and I'm sure you've already been told this but I'll add to the chorus, there is one optional set of side quests right by the MSQ quest giver that you REALLY should do as they are very MSQ related.
the yoship jumpscare was too funny
So Reapers enter a pact with a voidsent that allows them to act as an anchor for the voidsent to exist in our world without the use of a planar fissure or voidgate. Because of said pact the voidsent must do the bidding of its reaper host as the two until ones demise are bound. That also goes to show that this voidsent is now free meaning Zenos is gone for good. The Reaper art was an ancient Garlean art used heavily before the advent of magitek saw their order phased out (among other events which I shan't spoil.)
I agree the Thavnair political stuff wasn't interesting, but I appreciate that the writers wanted to highlight that the devastation of the Final Days didn't just magically fade away with the conclusion of 6.0. The parts of the world hit the hardest are still healing. It was also nice that they put a bow on the Khalzahl dude (the one they name the orphanage after), even if the MSQ really didn't make us care much about him at all.
Cried laughing at the voidsent avatar editor bit. Excellent work Nahuel.
I am so glad you guys take the time and effort to cook; it's genuinely awesome to watch you theorize with the information you have so far
