Dawntrail is now only a few short weeks away from launch, and given what I’ve gotten to experience here, I might be even more excited than I was for Endwalker as a baby, first-year game reviewer. Where the last expansion was a grand finale to everything that had come before, Dawntrail looks to be exactly the refreshing shake-up the game needs to shake off its cobwebs and push into the modern generation. It looks like my summer vacation…is just beginning.

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail releases in Early Access, available to all preorders, on June 28th, for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox Series consoles, with a full release on July 2nd.

  1. The game looks great, too bad I won't have time for it around release. Also, I didn't know there were people who actually CLICK on the skills instead of using keyboard buttons. Weaving/double weaving must be "fun". 😉

  2. Looking incredible.
Can't wait to get to it in 2027.
There's just so much content that, despite no lifeing FF14 for a few weekends, I'm nowhere near even the halfway point of ARR.

  3. FF14 is way too formulaic, there are no surprises. You can calculate when the new dungeon, raid, item lvl will be added and when old content is going to become easier. Raids are fun and extremely hard but that's like 5% of the content and the loot isn't rewarding, as it will just be replaced after some months and the raid will be made easier. Also raids are just boss fights in small rooms, its not like other MMOs with different paths and smaller mobs. Most of the pve content like dungeons, questing, alliance raids is extremely easy, there is no middle ground. I physically fell asleep in dungeons multiple times, and it happened to my gf too, so its not just me. The story is OK, really interesting at times, but a lot of fluff text and bloating in MMO style, also some unnecessary convolution typical of JRPG's (kingdom hearts-style). If you like to chat or do housing, maybe this is for you. Combat is good but the reward structure and lack of hard and relevant content is a shame and waste. The most fun I had was actually with doing older raids with level-sync (lowering your level to min. requirements) to get the somewhat release date experience, but you need to find dedicated groups for that as nobody plays old content since they aren't rewarding. The fun stuff is mostly dead content for some reason, you can just unsync your level and solo every old raid for rewards.
