I REALLY hope the Island Sanctuary has an "Arena" area you can build.
Be really cool because you can have multiple record players and set diff themes for diff areas, and make a rocking arena soundtrack
The glamour system needs a rework, not an expansion. Increasing it to 800 is a bandaid, not a cure. You should be able to keep the image of gear of stuff you've obtained so you don't have to make/buy/farm in case you tossed it or whatever. There's many games that do that and I don't see why they can't do it here.
I heard someone say that they are changing the Good King Moogle Mog (long may he reign) because the current version is too chaotic for single player duty support. Since it's an MSQ blocker they want to make it so you can solo through it, but they have to change up the fight for that to happen.
quick tip about artifact gear! (the stuff you get from your last job quest in an expac)- theres an npc called the calamity salvager, you can check with them, and most artifact gear is available for purchase from them after unlocking it! might save some space if there's anything you dont feel too attached to
Disciple of Hand has classes… not jobs… likely for that very reason.
Steps of Faith was super cool when it was fresh. Many nerfs made it lame.
You will want to try Duty Support in Endwalker. The fact that certain NPCs can run the dungeons with you fills it with bonus lore and waste eggs.
Not endgame, but hitting current expansion is when you lose your sprout.
o/ Bloefolg here! I've been providing spoiler-lite patch notes and such for the GG team since the launch of 6.1. You can also find me on the livestreams, most likely failing to join a party finder quick enough. Bloefolg is my main on Goblin, and Doren is my alt on Couerl for the FC. I've had a grand time participating with this little community and I'm grateful for the shoutout!
… also the "oe" in Roegadyn names (and also the term Roegadyn iteslf!) is a long u sound (oo). Bloefolg means "blue bird" in Roegadyn!
The big lore thing of King Moogle Mog, is that the moogles summoned a Primal (which the story previously enforces are Gods, of sorts), that actually does not exist. King Mog is a legend, a fable, and yet the moogles were able to summon him as a primal. Basically the whole story revolves around the Scions question exactly what the nature of a Primal actually is, which the game does answer much much much later, and it all makes perfect sense.
The speed in Trusts is perfect. They want you to do the Dungeons with Trusts for the first time and enjoy the story, backgrounds, dialogue and lore, and do it with Players from then on. If Trusts were even a little bit faster, it would be eating Duty Finder slots.
Funny you mention sprouts, one of my alts lost it's sprout pre-maturely, I hadn't used it in a couple of weeks, I logged in and no sprout. Instead it wants me to be a mentor? WTF.
The garrison comparisons are fair, but Island sanctuaries as described seem better in pretty much every way. The WoD garrison as originally pitched at Blizzcon was lacking feature-wise and even that got watered down for release. Square has already proven what they can do with the housing tech so this seems like a natural extension of that. Most likely they will continue to improve and add to it as well in the patches to come, because they're nice like that.
FFXIV is like a favorite aunt that loads up your plate to make sure you always have enough to eat.
Watch Garret become a Glam Addict and run the harder duns/raids just to grab that sweet sweet loot (I feel u bro, been there done that)
Crystalline Conflict = Overwatch; Rival Wings = LoL; Frontlines = Build a team and wreck face.
If you want to do Crystalline Conflict with people from the stream you can put together custom games, you just need to pre-make both full teams. You can even have spectators.
according to Xeno, whose been here since launch, Ast has a trend of getting a major rework at least twice every Expac. Also I'll be honest, thinking that anything but current Lightspeed for AST is "troll" is troll itself and plain bitching & whining nonsense from the lackadaisical side of the "community". It's abilities are on par with how insanely easy and OP healing is for all the jobs. I can only imagine these sorts of outcry are from these who just spam Asp. Helios to every boo-boo and wonder why the job isn't engaging when they're putting in 0 effort towards self-improvement and learning.
oh yeah and dps is fine for duty support/trusts. If you single pull as a new player or a scenery enjoyer, it runs you ~25 or more minutes. if you W2W, then you could get as low as ~20m to a few minutes less than 25min. The AI DOES adjust their dps relative to your own, based on your own DPS output. If you afk each pulls, AI gets you to the finish line by 30m (so far from what I've heard, since I would never "waste" my own time like that), so long as you don't die. That's the trade-off for allowing you to farm EXP/MSQ content/skip DF's wonderful roulette of mediocrity & clowns & trolls (& thads) and you don't have to gamble whether you get a YTYP junkie or the Steamrolling-Murderhobo-kind-of-a-group euphoria. (plus the hideous wait times for DPS roles)
usually the groups are mediocre, just accept that fact as FFXIV's reality, I have, and you will too, very soon if not later. And actual trolls+clowns are very rare. Usually I help new tanks or healers learn how to handle and get comfortable with W2W pulls. It's a really great feeling, giving out advice and helping others learn more about the game that both of us love to play.
Otherwise, if the potential timeframe for completing ez, casual dungeon content is the same as the online stranger wheel of misery, then why would anyone q-up for roulettes and help out sprouts or struggling groups (those who just have players who try their best even when they struggle with game mechanics. I'd take these guys 100x times over than no-jobstone RP trolls, afk-curebots, and single-target-on-packs Andies or AoE-on-Boss-Andies) when they can just level all their jobs to 80/90 at the same pace as with a full balls-on-the-wall PF and no need for human interaction?
Also you can cuss and yell at your companions as much as you want and they won't talk back, instead Thadcred or Graha'Chad will take those extra mobs you pulled back to them right off your back.
Plus, they use LB! which is more than I can say for many a groups in the roulette.
I sure as hell would spam AI instances all the way to the end. which I did, in exchange for my time, which is what was one of your or Garett's complaints about Duty Support. lol a wall of text for a 5s off-hand comment.
I like healing in Frontlines the best- hanging back and healing your team is a good feeling.
I have mastered the hand in FFXIV like no other ✋🤚
Underrated QOL feature in the 6.2 live letter: the actions list is a combo tree instead of just a list now. How I would describe Rival Wings as a moba: you're not the heroes, you're the creeps. You search for resources, often in the jungle to summon 3 types of vehicles (so I guess it's also Battlefield?) to push the bases.
For the duty support systems, it's pointless… until you hit Shadowbringers and you can run the dungeons with the Scions. In Endwalker, they even give the various Scions reactions to the instance itself (like you should really run the 89 dungeon with all of the scions at least once just to see how they all interact with it). That said, I have to agree with you on how the ARR duty support stuff works.
Island Sanctuary is literally the WoL buying a farm and retiring from adventure. The next Expac is going to be the start of Rogue One with YoshiP showing up to drag me back into it
Sadly, Data Center travel was fucked. I'm sure they'll get it going, but it's a disaster right now.
If you're interested in Moonlighter, you might also be interested in "Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale" (currently on sale for $3.99 US) which is similar but more focused around the shop-management aspect. It's also probably among the first of its kind since it was a Japanese indie game from 2007. The combat itself isn't that in-depth (almost like Stardew Valley but before its time) however, your character doesn't fight since she's only a merchant. Instead, you are able to recruit adventurers and fight as the adventurer but with the gear you give them from your shop. The real difficulty really comes from meeting the ever-increasing cost of your loan payments which means you'll have to split your time between adventuring to get items for "free" and optimizing your shop for income, paying attention to daily trends and customer needs. As far as I know, there hasn't been a game that's surpassed the fantasy shop-sim aspect yet despite it being 15 years old. Personally, I think it spawned the entire genre but I could be wrong.
To me, the island expeditions sound like a mash-up between Stardew Valley/Harvest Moon and Ark. If it's done well, could be a fun bit of side content like the gold saucer, just scratching a different itch of part of the player base.
In other news, my biggest bit of hype was for doubling the glam dresser size, at least until they implement a more permanent overhaul they've been teasing for years.
That is me, "Disciple of Hand" job
Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale
The thing about king moogle is that 1 line .." they came down from heaven" .. It becomes Immensely interesting in 6.1 ..
King Moogle is being revamped so it is possible to do with duty support in the future. A trial that was dropped and revamped to be a solo duty was Cape Westwind. I highly recommend doing the revamp if you have not already.
Fun thing, FF14's mahjong system is actually so robust that professional mahjong players have subscribed to FF14 purely to play it as it is apparently the best option for a modern online multiplayer client.
Island Sanctuary is supposed to basically be something similar to a retirement home/secret base for your WoL in the sense of the story trope where the hero saves the world and goes somewhere comfy to live. Its got the same appeal as housing, but on a even larger, more accessible though possibly more niche scale.
What's even more exciting is given the already impressive size of the island, that we're supposed to be getting even more areas for the "system" down the line. Whether that is additional islands in the form of area expansion within the instance or additional instances we don't know.
"i dont care about farmville" said the man with the house! "homeless? why not just buy a house" hahahaha… HUHUHUHUHU
Disciple of the Hand Jobs is what I will call it from now on.
Giggling over Disciple of the Hand
Oh, my friend…look into the titles you get for levelling those jobs…
Thornmarch is supposed to be a fight where you have a whole lot of enemies using recognizable jobs, and you using your knowledge of said jobs to fight them. Like the faction fight in Trial of the Champion from WotLK.
Instead, it's kind of a free-for-all mess, where it's not really clear to newer players what's going on.
I strongly suspect the revamp will be to make the enemy jobs more relevant, and create an actual strategy to it.
Disciple of the Hand classes. They're not actually jobs since they don't get a job crystal. 😉 I'm pretty sure the devs were aware of this pitfall too, because they've completely avoided ever even coming close to calling them jobs even when they released the crafting specialist soul crystals.
It's definitely not 1 to 1 but yeah rival wings is basically a moba
What I'm hoping for FFXIV to copy wow wardrobe transmog feature one day , it's the best there is ☺️
Tone down by a lot probably. King Moogle Mog, may his pom shine evermore, will probably have just one mog to accompany him and the party would have to kill said mob while still dealing damage to him. "Forced kill order" so to speak.
Ah, glamour. The eternal, true endgame.
between cape westwind and now steps of faith, I like this trend of taking some of the early trials that really don't work anymore and making them solo content.
Getting Moggle Mog toned down would be a blessing. I can never, for the life of me, remember the kill order, and I've been in roulette groups that kept abandoning because it was almost all sprouts and no one knew how to do the kill order so they kept wiping..
He's a huge difficulty spike, and of course there will be older players who 'complain' but imo? A toned down fight will 100% be better for the sprouts.
Leave the mayhem for Extreme.
Steps of Faith was very different on release. Well, it was actually kinda broken on release, since the adds would never stop agroing you even if you died (meaning party wipes would result in eternal wipes, as you'd get murdered as soon as you revived.)
But after they fixed it? Well, you actually had to perform all the mechanics- you really couldn't just DPS the thing down (it was actually impossible). That meant you needed to organize cannon teams, towers guys, someone to grab the chain post. I thought it was pretty cool at the time. Kinda of like a moving siege.
Of course, a lot of people struggled to beat it- and because you needed to beat it to get to HW, a lot of people complained loudly. That trial has been nerfed at least three times, maybe more. These days, you can pretty trivially DPS the thing down, which makes the whole thing pretty meh, tbh.
Actually, we have 4 publicly accessible hot tubs because my private chambers is open to the public. I am glad for the changes to MSQ and sad the island won't be what I wanted. I hope the Steps of Faith is as fun as they made the Cape Westwind fight,
the secret to playing together in CC is simply queueing at the same time 😉 whether its same or diff team is up to chance always but… yea.
I'm most excited for the criterion dungeon coming in 6.2, which is a whole new system. Basically they are extreme difficulty dungeons.
i just remembered something, dont they have a tower defense game in the golden saucer that you use minions to destroy the enemy crystal?
i wonder if they ever tried it, does anyone know?
