  1. I’d be more inclined to recommend Arcanist if someone is new to hotkey MMOs and wants to play a DPS. It also has a simple rotation in addition to more front loaded burst damage to make questing easier, and is fairly mobile for a caster.
PLD or WAR is something of a coin flip since I love them both. PLD certainly has the raw mitigation in ARR, but then WAR gets its self-heals and Fell Cleave after 50.

  2. I started FFXIV several times over, trying different classes over the years, then abandoning the game after a while because it just wasn't clicking.
The class that finally got me to stick with it? Monk. Monk of all things. That was my first level 90 and the job I beat Endwalker with. Apparently all I needed to do was to look inside myself and realize I was a madman and a masochist.

  3. Your first day?
    Just go bard. it's comfy.
At level 20 you can run faster. Useful before you get mount.
Or summoner. Brain dead job. Can try healing with scholar on the side.
If it's your first mmorpg, skip healer, you might get bored or you might panic too much.
Scholar is really good lv50 and below. Just let your pet do the healing.
Tank just go warrior. It's too good after lv57.
Pld is brain dead below lv60.
War is brain dead after lv70.
