  1. Mitigation healer sounds nice but would also be misleading since most healers have mitigation skills. White Mage also has two OGCD mitigation skills that you didn't mention, and they're normal healers. Protection Healer sounds kinda weird to me, and makes me think of Paladin. Barrier Healer, while not sounding amazing, makes me immediately think of healers whose core healing/recovery mechanics involve shields like Sage and Astro. After all, Barrier Healers are well known for their pre-combat shields aren't they?

  2. One class (SCH) directly puts up Barriers to Mitigate DMG, while the other class (SGE) puts up straight Mitigative spells to dissipate DMG intake- In that sense they both use barriers to heal/protect the party, i'll be interested to see what the FFXIV devs do in the future to create another Barrier Healer o/

  3. I think the distinction is supposed to be according to what each healer has readily available through GCD spells: WHM/AST applies straight heals/regens, and SCH/SGE applies shields. Although that does extend a little of the oGCD kits. Each healer has a little bit of everything, but there is a fairly strong preference toward direct healing on WHM/AST and damage prevention on SCH/SGE.

  4. I got in a big discussion with my old FC leader over this. Cause he said the sage is a shield/barrier healer, which he is not. Otherwise you would only shield your party the whole time, which is not what a sage should do.
