  1. Been waiting for this for what feels like ages o/ Glad to see the series continue once more! ^^

    In regards to various questions/points.

    – Nael van Darnus. If I remember correctly, what we learned from the first Encyclopedia Eorzea was that Nael was indeed a man, but he perished sometime before the events of 1.0 and his sister Eula secretly took up his mantle and became the White Raven that we know in the story. When Bahamut ensnared her soul and brought her into his thralldom she retained her own physical appearance. So the 'Nael' we meet in Turn 9 is in fact the woman Eula Darnus maintaining the mantle of her brother that she did for much of her life.

    – As someone who raided through much of Coil on its release it's not annoying or frustrating to see you clear them with ease. They're old content and I'm not about to force anyone to slog through weeks of prog for content that became obsolete near enough a decade ago. There is however a twinge of resentment that you'll never get to experience the fights as they were, and as such never appreciate the actual encounter design and impact of some fights that hold lots of fond memories for me. But of course, I also understand encounter design and things are not why you're here. I would however definitely recommend doing the normal raids for Heavensward/Stormblood/Shadowbringers/Endwalker synced once you reach them as they're pretty easily clearable on a first attempt anyway. I am glad you got to experience at least some of the majesty of Turn 13, however. =)

    – I'm very excited to see what you think of the growth of both Alphinaud and Alisaie over the coming expansions, as I believe they likely get more than anyone.

  2. Ooooh, super duper extra long episode. I'm surprised this one didn't get chopped in half but I'm not complaining.

One thing I wanted to say was in regard to Alphinaud ragging on Alisaie for her resolve, "as if saving lives and being the right thing to do isn't reason enough." I think that's actually the crux of the issue. Alphinaud wants to make sure that Alisaie is doing this BECAUSE it's the right thing to do, and not just because it's what she thinks someone else would want her to do it. The idea being that if it's not something she wants to do for her own reason, then she may not have the drive to see it through to the end when things get difficult. It's just that Alphinaud's a pretentious dick and he phrases it in the most obnoxious way possible.

"Not my circus, not my monkeys…" Oh, but they will be, they will be…

  3. Man it's great to see young Alisaie and Alphinaud again and how different they were compared to nowadays. Their personalities and voices lol

AND THE END OF EVA AT THE END LMAOOO

    Congratulations indeed. That was hilarious

  4. So the nael gender thing, due to a mistranslation error it nael got referred to as he originally when it was she, so later there was lore indicating she'd essentially taken the place of her brother to tidy things up. I'm not 100% sure I got this right cause it's a bit confusing so if someone can corroberate or correct me thanks.

  5. The most accepted theories is that Nael was a woman pretending to be her brother/father during the time prior to the dalamud incident.
Or that Bahamut when recreated Nael the image that it appear got mixed up with that of a person it once knew.

  6. In regards to those dragons IIRC it's implied they're already mortally injured and only kept alive (and in constant agony) so that they would sustain Bahamut, so what you did was less killing them and more turning off their life support and letting them pass on rather then living at threshold of death so they could be used as a battery for a primal.

  7. I can't deny that my heart bleeds a bit seeing you breeze through fights that took me and my friends weeks and sometimes months to conquer. Not because "oh, it was difficult for me so it has to be difficult for everyone" but because everyone who cleared the content back then can share similar stories about their endeavours. I love talking to people who raided back then and hearing similar stories about their struggles with T7 shriek, whether they triggered enrage on purpose in T2 to ignore Allagan Rot and how difficult certain mechanics were when the servers were still in Canada and latency was a big issue.

  8. I’ll never forget doing this unsynched with a small party and when Bahamut starts charging Teraflare. I thought to myself “Oh he’s provably gonna do Megaflare, it is his signature move.” Then the fame said Teraflare in 10 seconds. We all started panicking and running around. LOL. There were like 3 or 4 of us and I think we took a significant chunk of damage from that one. Despite how OP we were unsynched that part felt like it was originally meant to be experienced.

  9. A little bit of trivia connecting the Coils storyline to Hildibrand. You called out Nael's spear as being one you recognize, but it's more than simple asset re-use. The Second Coil of Bahamut was released in the same patch as the Hildibrand case that featured good old Greg as the 'weapon thief'. The spear that Hildibrand and Gilgamesh were fighting over was Nael's spear that she originally used in 1.0 and was then found by Hildibrand after her defeat way back then, and the 'demon bird' that Gilgamesh claimed stole the spear from him was intended to be a cute little nod to her reclaiming her spear from him for this raid fight. How the spear then found its way from her boss battle to the fields of Coerthas where Hildibrand would reclaim it again remains an unsolved mystery to this day.
