AWFUL! Cloud of Darkness Chaotic Alliance Raid HORRIFIC [FFXIV 7.15]



Cloud of Darkness Chaotic Alliance Raid is easily one of the worst pieces of content to introduce newer players into raiding in my opinion after having cleared it myself. This comes from a combination of alliance raid 24 player issues. Filling party finders is obnoxious, 24 players have leavers be much more common than normal. Strategies are all over the place and inconsistent for phase 2. I also do not personally recommend CODCAR I personally used Aurelia and recommend it it made the most sense to me and thus it’s what I chose and cleared with. Other issues include body checks and a difficult time even being able to pin point where the issues are and even if you know the issues to communicate them to the rest of the alliance. It’s also not trivial to revive in this fight such as you can’t revive outer alliance raid members if you are on the inner ring, also range issues are persistent and you can’t exactly ignore mechanics to get that 7-8 second cast time off. Next thing is casual players are NOT stupid and so telling them “stand in south tower” is not revolutionary to them. However they will get sick and miserable because player agency in this raid is at an all time low. Even if you know the very simple mechanics with 24 players body checks are MISERABLE.

All of the strats have evolved over time since the fight released, my first clear was on CODCAR, was a very recoverable when mistakes happened, initially raidplan felt way worse, then I got the clear on it and understood the upsides, what I learned is both are good in different ways, and one alliance seems to always get shafted in both in some way, that said most of my clears are in codcar, but I will say I think HO start or “Heals Out” is probably how the fight should be done but pf isn’t keen on learned new strats when they have some that work, even if it’s a better Strat.

  2. Its not a introduction too raiding there is other content that does that well enough this is something you do after you clear savage. Why pf when you can join organized run that's run by a community, all the issue that was brought up I have never experienced during and only heard when people tried this content in pf. What you describe is just your typical pf experience in any content in FFXIV.

  3. It is supposed to be a way to catch up with gear and gets bis without doing savage. So naturally if it gives bis gear it needs to be tough. They're not handing out that gear for free. However i think 24 man content is the wrong type of content for that. Especially if one person can kill the whole run! Also 50+ kills for the mount? With 23 random people? Why? That will take ages! I think they shouldve made this easier and added the bis gear to criterion. That wouldve made much more sense, because there's only 4 players and therefore coordination will be easier.

  4. In our FC myself included other then our few battle junkies that want extremely hard content all the time. Some of us never clearing hard stuff tried it and that was it we do not want to try anything hard ever again. Yoshi P wants new people to raiding try this with even giving bonus stuff to other players for having new people there to clear it. I think this is the wrong way to do it. Have plenty of other things to do in game that can do other then stress over harder content.

  5. One thing that I see just in the footage is that the main Cloud of Darkness, designed to be a wall boss with a lot of flashy effects centered around her, actually BLOCKS THE ARENA in this Choatic because she is too massive and covered in smoke effects to clearly see around.

    It's funny since the battle content in DT is the expansion's saving grace, but this fight has so many small quirks that turn into design issues that the smaller scaled content hasn't been plagued by.

    Anyway that hairstyle and the mounts will never be cheap unless they land in a moogle treasure trove some years down the road. Bleh.

  6. I gotta be frank here. Everything you mentioned about this being an "introduction" to raiding is exactly accurate to what actual raiding is. Body checks everywhere, simple mechanics yet people mess them up all the time, people leaving after the first wipe, players having no idea why they died because someone else messed up, party having little to no communication and instead just dipping out, and many other situations are the standard of raiding in this game.

  7. So click bait title to complain that the new high end raid isn't newbie friendly? Its not suppose to be. This is not for new players, this is for savage and extreme clearing players.

  8. Cole Evyx has the skill of someone who can only clear legacy ults & still thinks themselves a high-tier player. It's no surprise he has something negative to say about every single new piece of raid content.

  9. i totally agree.. theres no way for new players to be able to acess this raid through pf. since ppl leave after a pull or two. waiting for another hour for the parties to fill again. and on discord… there is the elite hurdle aka requirements. so why even bother? theres no way this will encourage new players who want to raid. and no its not fear mongering. we all know this xit is real.
