Astrologian and Dragoon Reworks DELAYED – My Thoughts! [FFXIV 6.2]

Who asked for Dragoon in Final Fantasy XIV to be reworked! Astrologian and Dragoon reworks are being delayed! This comes both as a great positive and a very saddening negative for the community.

But Astrologian is not in a fantastic spot for many people, it’s a STELLAR healer hahahaha see what I did there STELLAR CAUSE ASTROLOGIAN AND STARS AREN’T I FUNNY! But Astrologian’s card system and loss of Nocturnal Astrologian are very saddening!

  1. Crazy idea, but what if they reworked AST and SCH into hybrid healers 😛 Like AST get their Diurnal and Nocturnal sects back, while SCH can use Eos and Selene as its Pure and Shield healing stance 😀 This would be cool, a balance nightmare maybe, but cool nonetheless xD

  2. I was heartbroken to join FFXIV after being sold on the Astrologian class only to find out they removed the dual sects part of the kit. as someone who loves duality in kits (yes, I also play Red Mage) I would love to see day/night sect return to Astrologian. having a regen healer that can turn itself into a pseudo barrier healer is AWESOME!!

  3. Astro just needs some button bloat fixing. I remember taking a long hiatus between HW and Shb. I was like 25% through HW and thought Astro was cool looking but deeply intimidating because of the complex card system. But I WANTED to learn it. I ended up Maxing WHM after beating Shadowbringer and then decided to give astro a try. I loved it. I mean I LOOOOVED it and this is after the card changes that I did not get to fully experience. The Endwalker changes made Astro feel far more clunky and slow. But I still love it. Now hearing they're doing yet ANOTHER rework is tiresome. I worry they'll dumb it down and make it too obvious like Summoner. Summoner is visually cooler but requires very little thinking now. I worry they will make it too simple. The cards need to be changed to something more interesting.

  4. Cole, we're not getting Noct Sect back lol. I understand, I've also been playing AST since HW and it was also my preferred sect, but like, the job plays fine without it. And most casual players rarely used it anyway because Dirunal was much easier to use since HoTs require less planning. Like, I feel you on this, truly I do, but I do not see it happening until they add a fifth healer that uses HoTs.

  5. DRGs strongest window not being lined up with 2m is a huge problem, not a small one. It's why it's in such a place that long time DRGs hate. It's essentially SB SMN all over again. Long wind up that can't benefit with proper lineups.

AST on the other hand, cool beans it solo healed the new ultimate, just like it solo healed TEA, difference being is it almost EXCLUSIVELY focused on heals+buffs due to its near infinite MP BUT that isn't the definition of a good/bad/broken/balanced job. AST is a desirable job and fun one however, it has an issue. That issue is that despite being a fun healer to play, it has the lowest RDPS, still losing out to the other 3 healers, with SCH being on top and that's an issue because it works 2-3x as hard as any other healer for that result to MAYBE tie with WHM, and that doesn't feel good. The fact the other 3 can spam 1 button and SCH just throws its CS on cd while topping, doesn't really show a good design. In fact NIN now is the top dps while being the busiest job. AST should match that. Not NIN, but that effort=reward, not bottom tier with the most work of all healers.

Also Noct was okay. SCH still dominated as a shield healer compared to AST any day of the week from HW-ShB. SB especially, SCH dominated on mit, and AST was better as a HoT healer, having better potencies than WHM with OGCDs the thing WHM still lacks.

  6. The delay of the AST rework has me really bummed, to the point that 6.2 will be my first non-healer tier. AST has always been my favorite job, but through the expansions it just feels like more and more of a shell of what it used to be. It used to be the space/time healer with utility cards that had lore behind each effect, but now it's just the funny card healer with an overtuned healing kit (I think in an attempt to give it some kind of identity back). Like, the other healers have some strong buttons that answer a couple of different problems (Panhaima/Haima, Lilybell, Seraph, etc), AST has multiple buttons for each kind of problem (to the point that I barely use something great like Neutral Sect because it costs gcds). If there weren't so many role based mechanics, I think the meta would be 5 dps + AST and that's not healthy. I really hope the reconsider the delay for AST at least.

  7. The ONLY major rework I want for AST is to add some individuality to the cards instead of being focused solely on seals. Otherwise its honestly an amazing regen healer that feels a great to play.

  8. The problem is, that playing astro is not (or better feels not) rewarding atm. Astro can solo heal much – yes. But even when he is played absolutely perfect, u always have full seals-astrodyne and always have king of crowns (the last both things are almost impossible) u are still the weakest dpswise. And actually it should be top spot for what u have to do.

  9. This makes me feel a lot better about things to be honest. I think that this means that it will be paired with a new mechanic in 7.0 that might be fun to play around, Maybe leaning more into the class identity of dragoon. This is overall a good thing I hope they listen to at least the level heads speaking about dragoon and what we want and don't want. But one message I wanna put out there for people is while giving critique you must mention the things you love about the class and why AND the stuff you don't like if they don't know what you like about it it's harder for them to make good changes.

  10. As a DRG fan from 2.0, I'm nervous and hyped for the changes. On the one hand, I hope they won't gut the Dragoon like Kaiten and Summoner. But I don't want an extra charge of spine shatter dive and elusive jump as the only things we get for 7.0. So hopefully, the DRG changes keep the parts we like and open it up in a way that feels more like the dragoons of old (the ShB trailer gives a good example, as well as Kain's gameplay from Dissidia). Maybe they could take a page from Reaper and expand dragon's eye to have gers -> nostrond still exist, but all of our GCD moves turn into aerial moves, or we get more jumps. I know not everyone will be happy with it (take a look at monk and summoner for examples on both sides of the spectrum), but I'm hoping they will do a classic FF job right.

  11. The delay sounds good to me, because I find these to be the jobs with the most busy OGCD pressure, which I don't personally like but I do see the appeal of, and I think it's the busy factor that makes these jobs more concerning with level cap raises that come with each expansion since they have to gain new skills, and those will mean more buttons unless they do a rework and change buttons instead.

  12. They delayed these because of the samurai changes they shoved onto a playerbase that didn't want them, and the playerbase bitched at them for it. That's why these are delayed so they can actually figure out how to implement these changes or do so when people will be more accepting of them. By the way? Still wont fix samurai. Probably will see that being broke until 7.0 too.

  13. Only started playing healers very recently. One thing that makes no sense to me is astros cards only giving dmg buff. WTF?? Dmg buff is logical for dps job. But i do like the card deck gameplay. I just hope they give heal, regen, shield and maybe dmg up buffs to the cards. It would be super interesting to shuffle cards depending on situation wether you need regen or insta heal. Current system is just so stupid to me.
