  1. of course LA looks better but tbh comparing only models they are pretty sameish to me. jist one of them is shinier than the other one. Also FF14 the characters have expressions while in LA they are so lifeless

  2. FFXIV player characters look far better. I wish Lost Ark characters had expressions and less goofy/stretchy emotes. Sometimes it reminds me of TF2 meme videos with how bad the animation is. ;n; Hope one day LA gets updated because they can be pretty when they stand still.

  3. Given that XIV was held back by the PS3 before 4.0 dropped? The downscale of the Engine? They've managed to do surprisingly well for the obvious limitations. I'd say that Lost Ark does look impressive, especially for a UE3 game – XIV simply presents itself with far more personality. That isn't to say that I am not excited about the visual/graphical update. Four areas in which XIV lacks would be no proper Anti-Aliasing, low-resolution shadows/cascades, low-resolution character models, and inconsistent lighting engine.

  4. Graphics don't matter. But i also like FFXIV better. Of course LA is newer game, but FFXIV is more realistic. Ps. Asmon you gotta play the new PvP is awesome! I'm not even a pvp guy and even i like it!, but this new system is awesome. 6.1 is awesome!

  5. Yeah Lost Ark has more realistic graphics since it came out on 2013, six years after FF. But I think the aesthetic of FF is better in terms of character design, world scenarios and all that.

  6. The thing about Lost Ark, and pretty much most Korean MMO's, is that pretty much all of their characters look like isekai'd kpop idols. Lack of facial animations doesn't help it either.

  7. Ngl something that bothers me about playing Lost Ark through the entire story is not just the eyes…

It's the whole face and sometimes the body animations aswell. Some faces it's more noticable than others but legit your character looks blank faced no matter what their doing sometimes and they don't move their lips at times they should be emoting or reacting which makes it look like your face is legit frozen. Heck, certain scenes your character moves super badass/smooth when doing a story thing and others they look like they glitching out body wise.

That being said, Asmon was kinda egging at the wrong thing, Lost Ark has better graphics but FF has much more personality and better design, Lost Ark is pretty but bland style wise, it's not exactly breaking apart from other 20+ fantasy games that look similar to it.

  8. Given that the engine in FFXIV is over 10 years old, Lost Ark better look better. How is this even a contest? Story and character development however….

  9. Heavensward was literally sold on PS3, of course the textures will be worse than LA, but it's what you do with the cinematography, writing, and characters, that really defines which looks better.

  10. Comparing a game that came out 6 years a part one that catered to an old console in the ps3 and acting like there shouldnt be a graphical difference is just plain silly. Where was ugly WOW in this comparison then?

  11. Lost Ark has better graphics zoomed out, but any cutscene where you would expect facial expressions totally breaks the immersion. I still remember a particular cutscene in Feiton where your character wakes up on the floor in Avesta headquarters and the character's eyes are just open, unblinking and lifeless the whole time. There are many examples where your character just looks like a doll but that was the most egregious offender. Lost Ark does cinematic set pieces really well but anything involving individual characters falls flat from the lack of facial expressions.

I prefer FFXIV in this regard. The graphics may look dated but look at even the old cutscenes like the 2.5 banquet. Raubahn's fury and later look of feeling betrayed is plain to see, and Teledji's smug face just makes you want to punch it in. Facial expressions are way more important than photorealism in getting emotions across. In Lost Ark, I feel like I'm controlling a doll. In FFXIV, I can put myself in my character's shoes and it doesn't feel out of place.

  12. Hard to explane, but while lost arcs graphics are 100% better, the Charakters also look way more artificial than ff. Ffs graphics blend better in its scenes, and gives it a more natural look I guess.

  13. Eh, Lost Ark has better graphics, its not even a contest. However, FFXIV does an incredible job at animating the characters, something which Lost Ark does a poor job of, except combat animations which are pretty cool and feel impactful but facial animations are laughable. FFXIV on the other hand does a piss poor job at combat animations, but I guess that's to be expected from a tab target game. As far as art direction goes, dunno, I think both games are great looking, not sure if I can pick one over the other.

  14. XIV isn't as stylized as WoW but it is stylized to some degree, while Lost Ark is basically just real life kpop idol in fantasy armor. That's attractive ofc, and if we are just talking about purely technical graphical quality, Lost Ark wins hands down.

But what matters for a narrative-focused game isn't how close to real life you can make something look, but how believeable you can make the characters and their emotions. With XIV having that kind of narrative focus, I'm glad they didn't try to just go for photo realism but found their own style that manages to carry their narrative well.

  15. My issue with Lost Ark graphics.. Is in the faces of the characters ironically. They have something about them that sits in the uncanny valley for me and I just.. I cant exactly pinpoint what is the problem. The faces remind me of dolls in that they just.. Dont have expressions. At all. Its creepy. In FF the graphics are not realistic, so the characters don't creep me out. They arent trying to be realistic so the "dead eyes" effect isnt so bad. That and their characters have a wider range of expression. Lost Ark definitely didnt put enough time into making the faces move and act like real faces.

  16. i think FFXIV is dated, but they are suppose to fix that problem over time and it's an older game as well, though FFXIV does has a better talent art style, but I personally like Lost Ark cause the combat is 100% better than tab target, but at the end of the day both games are amazing for what they are.

  17. Graphics are nice, but they really dont matter. No game is good because the graphics were top tier= It always needs more, be it gameplay/story to make a game great.
Pixel Exarch is a great example within FFXIV of shitty textures and graphics, which you can't NOT notice but somehow don't care because damn is that story just so crazy good…

  18. Not only that. The artists actually put a lot of thought on the character designs. The character's personality strikes you whenever you look at them. When you look at Emet-Selch, Estinien, Venat, the Scions, etc, they give off a certain aura. In Lost Ark the graphics are clearly modern and much better technically. But it's all very hollow. At the end of the day it's all about the artistic vision. Visual fidelity is nothing without vision.

  19. Personally, I think the biggest difference is the scale. Lost Ark has honestly mastered scale more than basically any mmo I've ever seen. Where as FF14 is fucking terrible at depicting scale with the only stand out being Endwalker. If you know you know. Everything else though FF14 is superior in. FF14 really struggled with crowds and character models. Which it seems internally they really really struggle with models. If a standout feature is Hrothgar hair and they still mess it up and say it's too hard, or the fact hats have been modded in for years but they have basically told the community they are impossible.

However, even with the model issue, most cutscenes work in comparison to lost ark. Which I think that's mainly from FF14 putting way more emphasis on it's characters and lost ark putting way more emphasis on the scope of the things around the characters.

  20. chat literally said ff14 looks like a ps2 game vs them spamming Lost Ark when he said which one looks better. At this point he's just baiting more drama in his own stream. You know ff14 looks visually outdated. The devs even said that and they are updating the visuals already. Lost ark went to direct 11 and went up an engine. Lost Ark visually looks better. Because of the eyes it doesn't ? bruh. im ded
